Houses Rebuilt

It hadn't been long since Marcus' conversation with Jeremiah and the handing over of the Alpha rank; this was not something that could be left for too long. If the pack dynamic was changing, particular the hierarchy, then the rest of The Sworn needed to be told sooner rather than later.

And Marcus did not like leaving important news while he mulled it over. He waited at the Den for the rest of The Sworn to arrive, a cup of slightly sweetened tea warming his hands. He had had time overnight to think things over, and how this might effect the future. He was calm.

After what had happened recently, things could not get much worse without really trying to screw themselves over.

Steel clambers in from the basement, shifting back to Hishu form as he does. He pants a bit as he climbs the stairs, having just visited Storm-of-Pain to relate the news of Kevin.

The rahu would swear the pain spirit grew just as he was talking to it.

Getting back into the living room, Steel spots Marcus sitting with his tea. The rahu gives a nod and slumps over on the old couch with a puff of breath.

"Hey River..." Steel greeted, before noticing how quiet the Elodoth was. "Something up?"

Nieves finishes the sandwich she had made for herself up in her room. When she's finished she grabs her dishes and heads down to rinse them off in the kitchen. She sees Marcus and Steel gathered in the living room while passing by. "Oh, hey guys," she says and then continues to the kitchen to set her dishes by the sink. The Rahu turns and heads back to them, leaning against the frame of the arch that separated the living room from the foyer.

"So what's up?" she asks casually.

Old habits die hard. Namely the salty goodness known as instant ramen. Closing the door to his room behind him Jeremiah pulls out his phone as he gets an email. Reading it quickly the phone is shuffled back into his pocket. His mind distracted by work he walks into the kitchen before realizing the others are in the adjacent room. Coming to an abrupt stop he looks from Marcus to Steel and Nieves.

"Uh sorry. Did I miss a text?" Then it clicks. "Oo" He nods to Marcus before moving to lean against a doorway.

Victor sloped into the kitchen with his traditional morning routine done. That meant that he looked as if he'd had a fight with whoever had made him wear a shirt, his short rusty hair was stuck up at all angles, and his bright blue eyes were dancing as if he found the whole situation very funny.

The Irraka hopped onto the kitchen counter next to Marcus, shook out a cigarette and lit up.

"What's going on, Marc?" he drawled. For once, he felt slightly out of the loop with his own brother, which made him suspicious. After all, Marcus told him pretty much everything, so something he didn't know about was obviously seriously.

Also, he had his feet on the counter, but screw manners.

Fiona walked up to the house and knocked sharply on the door. Perhaps when she felt like part of the pack, she'd be comfortable enough to simply walk in unannounced. But for now, as a prospect who still wasn't sure where she stood, the Cahalith felt it was important to respect certain boundaries.

"I'll get to it in a moment," Marcus announced to the first couple of arrivals. His manner was outwardly calm, his voice gentle but solemn. There was clearly something that the older man had to say, but he was not ready to speak until everyone had arrived. It would have been a disservice to begin and let the others catch only the tail end of his announcement.

To Victor he gave a little nod, the faintest smile tilting up the corners of his lips. But the knock at the door stolen his attention, and the Elodoth walked toward it to pull it open. By process of elimination, the caller could only be Fiona.

"Come in," he invited to the newest member of the pack.

"Ta, Marcus," the Cahalith replies, stepping lightly over the threshold. "How's you?" she adds, ready to follow the older Uratha through to wherever the rest of the pack had assembled.

Nieves felt an announcement coming on by the way Marcus was acting. Fiona's presence seemed to confirm as much. The only strange thing about it was that it was coming from Marcus. Even Victor seemed in the dark about it. Maybe something Marcus had found out on a patrol.

Either way, Nieves raised her hand in greeting to Fiona as she enters the Den. "Yo, Filidh."

Steel nods to Filidh as she entered, glad she wasn't scared off by the recent fiasco. Other than that he remains quiet, waiting to see just what seems to be so damned important.
