To protect the sheep you gotta catch the wolf, and it takes a wolf to catch a wolf. - Alonzo Harris

Digger stood in the reflection of McKinley Park and looked around at those gathered. Digger lined everyone up in two lines, Skaald and Splitter on his side, everyone else on the other. Above them Blackens the Sky swirls, watching over his/her/its/their pack. "Alright Bitches. Today we discuss a few things about combat and staying alive. For the most part. You all suck." Digger says directing the statement at those not in lline with him. In otherwords, Skaald and Splitter do not suck.

"So today, we are going to dicuss our capabilities and we are going to figure out how to work together as a unit in order to best destroy those who will come up against us. Cool? Okay good. First off. It should be said that I am by no means a master tactician, I also know that some of us are not fighters in the strictest sense. And thats fine. But we still need to figure out how shit works in a fight, because if your in this pack, blood gonna be spilt son."

"Questions?" Rhetorical, "Good, moving on. I am Firearms, Skaald is weapons, Dale is empty hands. With the three of us looking into different areas, we have to know how to work together. If I am going to be blasting away, I can't have you fuckers stepping in front of me like a lemming. If Dale is going berserker barrage, we need to make sure we are not getting under foot. And if Skaald is going full on viking, it best we not get caught in the wake of his blade."

Digger lit a cigarrete, "So, start talking kids, lets figure out how we best work together to maximize lethality."

The Alpha stepped out of line and began unloading some large bags with various training equipment in it.

Nick stood in the line with Tony and Rawlins in Dalu, his hands loosely by his side. It was time to train, and he would listen and listen good. Fact was, tactics were something he rather liked - they kept people alive. Synergy and teamwork was absolutely essential.

No shit, Sherlock. The Crusaders were a pack of warriors. It had to be that way. They faught in such a wide variety of ways here that it would be stupid not to.

"For when we're beatin' a big spirit shit down up close, distractions," the quiet Rahu said when when Digger told them to start talking. When he realized that probably wasn't enough, he looked at Tony and Rawlins. "Spirits can be fucking hard to hit when they aren't being swung at by a bunch of people. Look at that prick accountant motherfucker from outside the Casino, for example. It's on the three of us to set Dale and Skaald up. You swing at a guy, it distracts him from your buddy. Pretty common sensical shit." A nod. "So might be you wait a split second so you're able to be the first man in a sequence of events. Then you distract 'em and Dale and Skaald lay down some bladed and clawed smackdown. Gotta set up our heavy hitters. Also, it never hurts to go in and out so Digger gets a clear shot."

"Its not much but I think it needs to be said: some of us need basic pointers in how to fight effectively. Thats even before we get started on tactical issues." Rawlins' eyes drifted over to the bag and its contents.

Dale stood next to his Alpha, keeping quiet as Digger talked to the prospects. He was glad that they were gonna be training with the newbies, since they definitely had to work on their pack tactics. If the Crusaders were going to wage on war on the Anshega, they needed to be ready for it. They had to be able to work as a unit, strike quickly and efficiently, and be as brutal as possible when doing so.

The Rahu stood there with his muscular arms crossed in front of him, listening as the noobs got told by Digger. When Nick took the initiative and began to discuss some tactics, his attention shifted to the Iron Master. If anything, the kid had some good ideas, which Dale certainly expected. After all, both Nicky and him shared the same moon, and it wasn't called the "warrior's moon" for nothing.

When Rawlins spoke up, Dale's first instinct was to yell at the old man. However, he figured that the Elodoth did in fact need to learn a thing or two about how to throw a good punch. At least he is being honest, he mused to himself as the frown upon his brow faded away. "What's your weapon of choice?" he asked in response to the Bone Shadow's words. "Can't really give you any pointers unless I know what that is."

Rawlins met the Rahu's gaze. "At the moment I'm more interested in the fisticuffs... but let's be honest here, its the fang and talon work that I'm more worried about. As for weapon of choice... I don't really have one. I'm pretty shit all round, to be honest." He pauses, rubbed his chin. "Maybe knife work - I could conceal something like that on me and not run any risks with the men in blue..."

Digger nodded along with what Nicky was saying, "Worse comes to worse I can run up and blast the fuck outta it. But yeah we need to to make sure to work together and not let our actions hinder each other. Part of combat is being spontaneous and not second guessing yourself. But at the same time making sure we work together." Digger turned to Rawlins.

"Nothing wrong with wanting to learn to fight with just your hands. Plus, can't really use a knife while being all wolfy."
Digger explained and opened up the training gear. He tossed out some punch and kick pads. "Just so everyone knows, this shit isn't going to be easy. Figuring out how to work as a unit is hard."

"Hard. Yes. And necessary." The Elodoth could not help but grace Digger with a feral grin of anticipation.

Dale nodded at Rawlins' words, glad that the old man was being vocal about what he needed to work on. It took a certain degree of humility to admit to one's own shortcomings, and the Rahu could appreciate the fact that the Bone Shadow could handle it. Besides, he was asking for help and wanted to get better, so that was a good thing. "Well Rawlins, I can teach you a thing or two about both," he said to the Elodoth as he took a step towards him. "The techniques may differ a bit, but in essence you are using your body as a weapon, regardless of whether its your fist or jaws."

With those words, he got a hold of some of the pads Digger was tossing around, quirking an eyebrow slightly. Having been raised in the streets, Dale had never used such things to train, but he figured his Alpha had a reason for using them, so he didn't question it. "Like Digger is saying, learning to fight as a unit ain't easy," he said to Rawlins and the other prospects. "That said, once you learn how to do it, you become an unstoppable force." A devilish grin formed across the Rahu's lips for a moment as he gestured for the Elodoth to throw a punch.

"Let's see what you've got old man," he said, cracking his neck a couple of times. "I need to know what I'm working with here."

Nick remained quiet as the Alpha and the Sergeant-at-Arms spoke to them on tactics, nodding to Digger's words and then smirking slightly as Rawlins spoke of something being 'hard but necessary'.

    Heh.

With Dale telling Rawlins to punch him, Nick smiled, curious to see if the Elodoth was all talk or not. "Been working on your boxing at all, Rawlins?" Munroe asked.

    Sorry for the delay!

Skaald stood and listened as Digger explained what they were doing today. He nods in appreciation and smirks a bit as the alpha mildly dresses down the others as 'You all suck.' Skaald knows the blade well, as Digger mentioned, and had improved since he had come to Sacramento himself, but he knows damn well that he's not the fighter that Dale is. That's why Dale was the Sarge.

He nods at Nick's suggestions as well, and then listens as Rawlins and Dale start talking about hand to hand. Truth be told, he could stand to learn a bit more in both hand to hand and tooth and claw himself. However, there was something about the group tactics he wanted to discuss. Nick has started getting to it with his examples of setting up the heavy hitters.

"When working with a group, there are two things you must learn if you want to succeed as a group. Discipline and trust. The first takes practice and requires the second. You have to have discipline to have patience. To wait to strike until it can do the most good and to not take openings if it means leaving one of your own open. And you have to trust your mates to back you. To watch defend you when you strike, and to take the openings you make."

He smiles wryly, knowing what he's going to say next would seem odd. "The Romans knew this. That personal glory had to e subordinated to discipline." The grin breaks into a full smile and he raises his hands in a preemptive gesture of forestallment. "I know, I know. What's this? A Cahalith, a Blood Talon, a Viking?!? Saying this!?! But think about it. The Romans are one of the most remembered civilizations in history, their Glory is remembered as greater than anything to follow for a thousand years.

"The point is this. Sacrificing personal Glory allows the unit greater Glory. And the Vikings knew discipline, even if it wasn't the same as Roman discipline. Why do you think we were some of the only 'barbarian' tribes to not only survive Rome, but to actively plunder it?"
He flat out laughs, "The church eventually bought us off. Gave us an island to stop the raid. They called it Sicily." He wasn't sure how true that was, but he'd heard it a while ago and he liked it.
