A Night Out on the Town (Open)

He looked to Magnolia again as she spoke. It was then he noticed she wasn't quite the pale ethereal beauty he first saw. Magnolia's complexion suddenly improving. She was still remarkably attractive. How had he failed to notice it earlier? It was a brief moment until logic fell into place. This little upstart. Albert's cigar glowed bright orange as he kept his urge to respond with less-than-sociable actions contained.

He nodded to Magnolia as she spoke, "I'd be happy to give you a tour of the city. The casinos always have shows going on and there's a great deal of history if you're interested in it."

Sawyer tapped a bit of ash off while listening to the flow of the conversation between both the Kindred and smoking. He inferred Chris's implied troubles were his Embrace and Magnolia was awaiting tenancy. Interesting.

When Chris addressed him once more, he exhaled the smoke away from the them before speaking "Yes, it would be good to visit the Preserves."

Albert decided to build off of Wooding's offer for assistance, "Since we're here, perhaps we could each exchange our numbers, that way we could make meeting up less reliant on chance."

"Clever idea Albert and I may just take you up on that tour one of these night ." she said. Magnolia excused herself from the table briefly and walked to the main bar. When she returned she handed each of the younger looking men at the table a card for the Lily. On the back of each card was her cell number.

"Worry not Mr. Wooding," she said and gestured with a slow flick of her write, as if she had been waving away smoke, "I've it all in hand. Besides it would be well within my respectful rights to wait another week." She paused and pretended to be immersed in smoking her cigar for a moment, her passive aggressive attempt at a challenge.

She smirked.

"My reasons for arriving in Sac Town aren't necessarily covered by the 'niceties' either, but it would be a lie if I said I wasn't looking forward to staying for a time," she continued.

'Excellent idea.' Chris nods and then takes two business cards out of his pocket and hands one over to both Magnolia and Albert. On it are his name, cell number, e-mail and a postoffice box address.

After a moment wondering why they tried to dramatize the fact that they are smoking, Chris simply replies. 'Then I won't worry, Miss. It would just be sad if one had to wander the streets without any food for too long. Assuming then that this is not your first night in town, I am relieved to see there are still people out there who can take care of themselves.'

Several names cross his thoughts. 'You would be surprised of the decisions some others have made.'

Upon receiving Chris's business card he examines the notes from both the Kindred. He nodded in satisfaction. "If you will pardon me a moment, I'll send you my information," he retrieved his smart phone from his jacket pocket. In a matter of a few moments he sent off a text message to both Chris and Magnolia, "Hello, this is Albert Sawyer. Pleasure to meet you," and returned to the conversation.

"Everyone should take some time to adjust to new a setting before jumping into the fray. The city is wonderfully friendly and quite considerate. I would not worry too much about it. We're resourceful folks as we've made it this far in life," he said with a grin and took another puff from the cigar.

"Please Mr. Wooding," she said, "it's Magnolia, just...Magnolia." Tucking the offered card in a pocket, she gave Albert a nod when his text sounded on her phone. "I take it, your experience with the Prince went well then, Albert? Or do you prefer Mr. Sawyer?"

The clinking of martini glasses caught Magnolia's attention as a table out of sight toasted. She glanced around the bar feeling self-conscious, as if it were clear to everyone she did not belong.

"Sounds like there's a story there Mr. Wooding," she said casually pointing a finger at Chris, "or at least a brief cautionary tale." She gave him her best, tell me, grin.

'Of course.... Magnolia, my apologies.' Chris nods with a smile. You don't see people without a surname very often. With Kindred, it happens. It's just confusing for the first time.

Reminds me of Twist.

Chris receives the text and quickly puts the information into his smartphone.

Speaking of her...

'Then a brief cautionary tale it is, about a young man testing the City Hall's security in a rather clumsy way.' A smirk appears. 'Or... a tale about quite the,' Chris searches for the right words again, 'expressive woman?'

Albert looked to Magnolia, "I've only met with Miss Villiers and Miss Sage," he replied not wanting eavesdroppers to stumble upon their culture's codewords. "I had no issues thankfully." He held back on the immense praise he held for the Herald. He had no idea who he was dealing with and some things were better left unsaid.

"Personally, I prefer Albert, although," his voice trailed off as he looked to Chris and spoke in a conspiratorial tone, "if we're all in agreement for a first name basis, I would not speak out against it. What do you prefer Mister Wooding?" He paused momentarily then continued as if the next line would be sufficient persuasion as he rubbed his hands together, "Especially since you've sparked my curiosity about your story. I'd love to hear it."

"Do tell Mr. Wooding." She leaned back slightly and watched him curiously. "A clumsy man...expressive woman...?" She raised an eyebrow and smiled softly.

She fluttered inside, or something like it. Hearing mention of security edged the story into the taboo, at least in her mind.

Magnolia marked the surnames, Villiers and Sage. If she met their owners at a later date, she hoped she might recall Albert mentioned them well. She gave Albert a serious look as he spoke about the court officials.

'I have no problem with you calling me Chris at informal occasions such as these, although you must understand that "some" directly connect usage of first or last names to one's status. I wouldn't want that to happen.' Chris probably doesn't directly have any higher status higher than the two, still it could turn out to be bad to disrespect him.

'The story about the clumsy man is actually about this subject too. I don't know if you are within any "clubs"?' He shortly looks at the two, giving them a short moment to reply, otherwise he talks further. 'But you can't just approach everyone and boss them around with the argument you're from out of town and don't know the etiquette.'

A nice smile appears. 'Because then you find yourself "out of town" very soon again. Whether all in one piece or not differs.'

Albert's eyes briefly studied Magnolia's face, all those years of poker games taught him much. So now I'm suddenly interesting... The Ventrue contemplated what to say that would not breach the Masquerade, "We can meet those names at Avalon," he said matter of factly.

He then focused Chris as he affirmed the first name basis. He nodded as he recalled his first night in Court. The clumsy man was probably Wooding himself who was exiled from a Domain because a Daeva. The mention of "clubs" as the Ventrue inferred most likely meant the covenants. "Oh I agree, I agree. Outsiders who come in and demand respect rarely get what they want. I do see where you are coming from. All of us have stumbled at some point."

With another puff on his cigar, he continued, "As for membership of clubs, I've not joined any in Sacramento just yet. Still learning about the various expectations of membership."
