As trees around Sacramento begin to take on shades of orange and red, the temperatures begin to cool down a bit. The season of the harvest has reached the capital of California once again. As its natural, the time for one Monarch to step down and pass the Freehold's crown to the next has arrived, as Autumn creeps around the corner...the season of Fear is here!

Once guests enter the Four Seasons, they are greeted by the Chatelaine who manages the hotel. Mr. Bates leads those who have arrived through the halls of the hotel, guiding them through a maze of hallways until they finally arrive at the Throne Room.

The place still has the touch of Summer, with several lit torches hanging from the walls in the room. The place is still decked out as warrior's hall, with several long wooden tables placed strategically around the room. However, signs of the season to come can be felt around the room, as the heat within the place has diminished.

As usual, there is a long wooden table with several chafing dishes and trays on it, laying off to one corner of the room. There are a variety of exotic dishes laid out on the table, one looking more delicious than the previous one. A variety of fruit bowls are also scattered around the long table.

The hotel's staff is already congregating around the room, making sure everything is ready for the event. The Spring Queen, who also happens to be the chef of the hotel's restaurant "Fresh Tastes," is laying out a few more dishes on the buffet table, whistling a tune while she works on making everything perfect.

Big Swilla is standing not far from the buffet, his predatory reptilian eyes fixated on the massive amounts of food laid out on the table. Duncan is standing by the door to the room, greeting people as they walk in and making sure trouble stays out on this day, keeping up with his duties as Summer's Constable. Meanwhile, Gianna is sitting by the bar, sipping on a mint julep while she makes some small talk with Sam, the ensorcelled bartender.

A year ago, Rick Pereg of Autumn took the Freehold crown, assuming the role of Dread Lord after his predecessor betrayed the Freehold. However, this year things are to be different. The Freehold of Sacramento won't be ruled by a Dread Lord come this Autumn, for Rick has left on some unknown business...leaving his wife to pick up the pieces.

Welcome to the Autumn Coronation! As usual, please break off into separate threads when appropriate and label them with (Autumn Coronation 2012) in the name. This thread will close to new arrivals on October 9th. Have fun!

Rook, Red Victor, long jumper extraordinaire, Summer's favourite Pianist and chesspiece in a suit, strolled into the Four Seasons with his usual, self-possessed expression. His serious expression swept the room briefly, and for once, there was no reserved little smile playing at the corner of his mouth. There was an air of quiet control that moved through his steel expression, as he regarded the room.

Rick's betrayal - and yes, it was a betrayal - had cast a pall over this Coronation.

Rook would never interfere in the politics of another Court, but he empathised. After all, few other Changelings in the Freehold could honestly say they knew what it was to be married, to have sworn their life and love to another person, until death did them part.

And fewer still could understand the pain of loss, and what betrayal felt like.

He knew. He had betrayed, because he had no choice.

    Laura.

Rick had been partially responsible for that loss, too. But it was not the time to rage. This was Autumn's day. He was here only to show support for Terri.

Stripes once more surprised himself being early to a social event. He wore the usual dress shirt and slacks he always did to events like this. It probably wouldn't surprise anyone to know they were the only semi-nice clothes he owned. Still, no one could say the tiger didn't clean up alright.

Being early came with advantages, he'd have more time to talk with the others. Hopefully someone would know someone that could help him with Maggie. Walking in though he sees that there aren't that many other changelings about just yet. Complicating things the only one he knows personally is Rook.

Stripes bites his lip. The last time he spoke with Summer's Constable the living chess piece had put his fist through the bar. Of course that had been directed more at Otto than him. If speaking with Maggie had helped him figure out anything it was that it wasn't to late to try and make amends.

He's still a bit nervous as he walks up. Best to test the waters somewhat.

"Guess we're a little early, huh?" he comments to the summer courtier.

Heath bounces merrily into the Throne Room after a jolly greeting to Mr. Bates at the door. He had just gotten used to Summer and the heat and now it was all but over. Though Sacramento was the sort of place to hang onto the summer season, the coming of Fall was still a time of adjusting to cooler weather. Perhaps he aught to be thankful for the cool-off. He was tired of showing off his legs in shorts.

As the other Lost entered, Heath sidled off to the side, humming a nonsensical tune and rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet.

Barristers knew that there was one big rule: attorneys at law were never late for Court. That included Autumn Court Coronations, and Perry diCarto arrived promptly. At his law firm, he could do most whatever he pleased. But here, he was a new guy. And he wanted to learn more, to see more, and to meet more people. That was the pleasure of the Freehold; when you came to the Four Seasons, there were always new faces. At Fresh Tastes, there were always new flavours.

    It was fabulous. Always.

Today, Perry wore black. Naturally, it was a suit; nothing else felt quite as right, and the Shadowsoul thought the sleek lines of his suit matched the sleek lines of his elven form just fine.

Vain? Probably. But it was like a wingman he could wear.

Emerald green eyes locked onto Mrs. Rosemary setting up the buffet, and Big Swilla standing by. A grin came over his face, and the lawyer didn't even go for the liquor first. Being drunk didn't have a damn thing on Mrs. Rosemary's buffet dinners, and the lawyer had been in Court all day without a lunch break because Johnny Gibbs, the prosecutor, decided that they needed to talk about a case resolution instead of eating.

Strolling over with his hands in his pockets, diCarto stopped by the giant croc. "I think you've got the right of it, my friend. This buffet looks like it's going to be to die for." He grinned. "How are you, Swilla?"

Danny scuttled into the Freehold Commons, his fingers gripping his cane with the hold of a man trying not to drown. It was a lifeline. It made him feel safe, and he had to look confident today, look like a real member of Autumn, or... or something.

His hands were shaking. The candlelight of his mantle glimmered in the air around him, each pinpoint of flickering light casting weird shadows as he walked. His dark eyes flickered around the area for a moment, and he wondered if it wouldn't be worth drinking until he became confident.

Danny thought that he'd probably become unconscious first.

He breathed in slowly, trying to bring his heart rate down, and then forced himself not to immediately dash for the corner.

People need to see strength in Autumn. I'm just not... not the guy for the job. But I need to pretend to be.

Rook glanced sidelong at the tiger, his sunglasses hiding his eyes. He was vaguely surprised that Stripes had approached him, but that wasn't particularly important. The powerful crackle of his Summer Mantle shot across his steel skin, white hot flares that seemed to bubble up from inside him lashing at the cooling Autumn air of the Commons.

    "Not really,"
the Chesspiece said, his voice serious and restrained. The quiet humour was gone, but not from Stripes. "I'm always here among the first. I live in the building after all."

He liked that. It meant he could always watch over the place.

The Board tugged quietly at his attention, but it was dim and distant. He pushed it aside.

"Is there something I can do for you, Stripes?"

The Fairest Dancer skirted her way into the Four Seasons. It was still a year of firsts for her. And this time it was her first Autumn court in the Sacramento Freehold. L’aire didn’t really know what to expect at this coronation. But she was definitely curious as to a few things.

And once again, she had to pick through her old dance attire to find something that would work for a dress. Thankfully, she had a few that would work. This time, it was a purple cap-shouldered outfit with a flowing skirt, and still her normal dance shoes worked with it. Gotta love versatile stuff. One day, she'd have a real dress. Hopefully soon as her own court's day was coming up. Although looking as beautiful as Katrin would be a long time coming....sigh.

L’aire could smell the food and she glanced over to the buffet. The Winter Dancer nodded to Rook seeing he was already in conversation. And Perry diCarto too and she gave a little wave.

And then she caught the candle-lit Danny Tongs in her view. She contemplated talking to him. Fuck it I will.

She sauntered over to the Autumn Wizened, it was his court’s day after all. “Heya Danny. How’s it going?” L’aire said gently with a cool breath. Last time she scared him or pissed him off… she couldn’t remember which.

    Spartan

This will come as zero surpise to anyone, but Spartan is pissed. He makes his way into the The Four Season Hollow, his mantle storms around him as he enters. Jeans and a tee was enough for Spartan this evening. He was never known for his flare of dress, but if Rick dared show his face, Spartan did not want to get bird blood on the one suit he owns.

Once Spartan strips off his jacket he pulls the haggard and worn spear blade in its custom sheeth out of the sleeve. He straps the blade to his belt and thigh so it can be quickly drawn.

Spartan had not heard who would be taking the crown, but the hoplite had a pretty solid idea of who it would be. Or at least who it should be.

The King makes his way to the throne and sits down.
