You want my theory? Digger asked and didn't wait for them to respond, Whoever is putting those markings on the bridges, Maeljinet works for them, or answers to them. You saw those fists at the casino right?" Digger asked to verify.

Digger looked to John, Get to burning, as long kills all those things in there...

Once outside, Dale looked back at the swarm of twisted spirits trampling over each other, trying to reach something they could not. Turning back to his pack, he listened as Skaald spoke about the Maeljin, and the threat they presented to the Uratha of the city, and probably just the city as a whole. When his Beta spoke of burning the place down, the Rahu nodded his lupine head in agreement. Hell yeah! I'm with you on that one Chap, called out Dale over the mental network. Skaald's got a point though. If this Maeljin thing is moving in on our turf, it is probably doing the same in other areas of the city. He paused for a moment, considering the times he had sign the strange symbol before. They may already know, but there ain't nothing wrong with giving them a heads up, said Dale to the rest of the pacl.

Skaald considers for a moment and then nods. Burning it down won't destroy the spirit, just like that Maeljinet will be back, but it will at least let them and any other errant spirits know that we won't stand for this shit. Maybe if we prove to be a big enough hassle they'll pack up and leave. I doubt we'll get rid of the Maeljinet so easily. Even just in thoughts, Skaald is uncomfortable with the notion of using either the Maeljin or the Maeljinet's name, at least while in the Hisil. Of course there were even more things to consider with all of this, but that could wait until a longer discussion, preferably at the Tur with all of the other Urdaga they could find.

As he considers all of this Skaald begins rifling through his duffel bag before coming up with a lighter and a bag of shavings he'd made from taking a pencil sharpener to a dowel. The rite he knew to call spirits often required a fire to burn the chiminage with, so he had the materials to start a small one, but not necessarily one on the scale they'd need. Well, I've got a lighter and some tinder, but we'll need more than that to get this place burning. Or I guess I could try to summon a local fire gaffling.... Actually, that's not a terrible idea. I can just offer it the mall as a favor. If we play it right we might get the mall burned down and have a fire gaffling owe us a favor. Of course, if we use a spirit to burn it down it will almost certainly destroy the spirit rather than discorporate it, and if it's done improperly or the wrong gaffling is summoned we might risk contaminating the spirit, which would be bad. Thoughts?

Chaplain shook his head before hanging it slightly as he counted to ten, regaining his composure. My apologies, brothers, my wrath with spirits sometimes gets the better of me, he said over the link. Burning this building will not solve the problem. Skaald is right, we need the source of this violation and quickly.

Splitter, Skaald, Send a message to the spirits here and to Maeljinet and whoever is pulling its chain. However you want to do that, summon or spirit or whatever. Digger ordered.

Digger turned to Chaplain, Johnny, let the other packs know whats going on. Relay the information we have and get any information back from them that will prove useful. Also see about checking for any pure activity from the other packs.

Digger rolled his neck, Once that's all done, we should check in with BTS and see if it has any info for us.

Anything else you guys can think of that needs to get done?

Skaald nods and considers for a moment. If it was done correctly, the ritual would accomplish two good things. It would send the message that the Crusaders tolerate no bullshit in their territory, even in the Hisil, and it would make the pack an ally from a spirit. There was a risk of course, but it seemed the benefit would outweigh said risk. That, and he was still a little pissed that the Maeljinet was fucking around in there turf.

He drops his bag and strips off his blood soaked and shredded shirt. It wasn't fantastic for chiminage, but he only needed to lure in the spirit. The real payment would come later. And the blood on the shirt should act to draw the right sort of spirit. He wanted not just a fire spirit, but one that was born of destruction so that if it did burn down the spirit mall, it would be within its nature. Perhaps a spirit of a house fire or some other arson creature.

Using a clawed finger in his Dalu form he scratches out two circles in the ground. Around the first he spends nearly 15 minutes inscribing complex symbols and sigils in the First Tongue to bind the spirit. The second remains simple, a place for him to conduct the summoning from. He produces a small bag from his ritual kit. It contains several strips of a dried, red colored fungus with a white dotted pattern. Carefully selecting only a very small piece of the Amanita muscaria, he places the strongly hallucinogenic and toxic toadstool in his mouth. While Skaald's Uratha metabolism and resistance to toxins will protect him from the most harmful effects, a small dose is still a necessary precaution - and all that will be necessary.

Finally he piles up the shirt and his tinder. Sitting in the circle he begins to chant and howl. After a few minutes he lights the tinder and urges the shirt to catch fire as well, not breaking off his chant for a moment. This goes on for nearly 20 minutes before he brings the howl to a close. As the last note echoes into silence he waits. The next few moments were the moment of truth. Either it would work and the negotiation would begin or it wouldn't work at all.

Skaald attempts to prepare a circle for use with Bind Spirit and then uses a Call Gaffling to attract the attention of the nearest Greater Gaffling of Arson or other similar fire. I don't know if the roll to inscribe the circle is limited in number of rolls or not. If it isn't Skaald takes 13 minutes to finish the circle. If it is, then he'll be happy to discover his circle won't work!

As Skaald calls out, the area within the summoning circle suddenly bursts into flames.

The intensity dies down after a moment, the vicious blaze parting to reveal a humanoid shape wearing a balaclava and a heavy overcoat, though it seems to have no eyes or mouth beneath the wool. In one gloved hand, it grips a gas can. The smell is overpowering.

    <<You called?>>

Even its breath reeks of gas.

Time to complete the rite, Skaald

As soon as the circle bursts into flames Skaald begins the howl to finish binding the spirit. There were a few spirits Skaald might consider summoning without a binding. One of the lunes, of course, or a spirit wolf would likely stop and speak first, but most spirits had a rather poor track record with Uratha to start. Of course, that might be an issue of cause and effect being confused....but now is definitely not the time to start re-evaluating Urdaga-Spirit relations.

Add to that the fact that at least one of the Pure tribes had a track record concerning fire spirits, and this was likely a nasty example of such a spirit, Skaald wasn't about to take any chances. So, putting forth as much effort as possible to anchor it here until their business was concluded. Besides, he had a plan.

After the howl finishes, for good of for ill, Skaald completes the last part of the rite and gives the spirit a way out. <<Alright, spirit. If you answer our questions honestly and completely to our satisfaction, then you shall be free to go. That being said, I thank you for responding to my call, and welcome you here. I shall offer you an additional boon for your answers as a show of respect for you knowledge.>>

The reeking spirit would have rolled its eyes, if it had eyes. Which it apparently didn't, but it managed to give a very clear impression that it was utterly unimpressed by the idea of being stuck in a ritual circle and being given the offer of Skaald's respect.

<<The respect of a member of a pack of dilettante brutes. I'm touched, really. But I'd rather have something of value to me, me.>>

It examines where its fingernails would be, if it wasn't wearing gloves.

<<Offer me something worthwhile, and I will consider answering your questions, dog.>>
