Review the rules of this challenge on this post

To another side of the room, there were some stacks of hay laid out with targets painted on them. The stone wall behind them had some training bows and arrows hanging from it, which were to be used for the archery competition. There was a red line painted about 30 yards away from the targets, which marked where the participants would be taking aim from.

L’aire arrived at the small archery range. Despite hardly picking up a bow unless it was a prop, she thought she’d give it a try. She could only assume right now she’d probably flop at it and worse case scenario peg Spartan in the ass with the way her luck had been going.

The Winter Dancer picked up a bow from the rack. She at least knew enough not to snap it without an arrow. Slowly she stretched it back and then let it recoil in the same manner, not letting it slip from her hand at the moment. L’aire eyed the targets at the end and tried to sight end see if she could envision how to do this…and not nail anyone. That would probably be her best accomplishment, but still she was doing this to be involved in the Freehold events.

Tally arrives at the small archery range, she notices that she isn't the first one to arrive. She smiles and nods towards L'aire before walking up to the rack, studying the bows offered. She picks up a bow and tests it, she doesn't know what per say she is looking for in a bow but she does know that if the bow cracks under the pressure of pulling the string that its no good.

She pulls the string as far back as she felt comfortable with and then relaxes the arm drawing the string, allowing it to return to its unused state. Tally is pleased that it nothing seemed to appear upon the bow in the form of cracks and decides that it's the one for her. Moving away with the bow in hand, she walks over to check out the target, staying behind the line though. She can't help but be interested in how well she'll do in this challenge.

Tobias walked over to the archery targets, pacing off the distance to the targets. He wasn't much of a shot (okay, if he was being honest, he'd pretty much never hit what he was aiming for), but it would be fun to try. And besides, these contests were about community right? He gave a quick nod to L'aire and Talley as he joined them, waiting for the festivities to start.

Danny moved over, picking up the bow. He tested the tension of the string, turning the bow over in his delicate, over-extended fingers. He had never fired a bow before, but he had made plenty, and knew the theory.

Theory was possibly not enough, but he wanted to try. He knew he had a good eye.

He also hoped not too many people would be watching. Just in case he missed...

    "Um, hello everyone."

Rook picked up the bow delicately, and turned it over in his rigid fingers. It actually amused the chesspiece on some level that he was considerably less deadly holding a weapon of war that had been considered so deadly in its day, that it was practically a WMD.

Of course, the Red Victor was the closest thing to a living WMD that a person could be, while still being human.

    Mostly human.

    ...Human shaped.

    Mostly human shaped.

He tested the draw on the string, looking thoughtful. It felt light to him, and he had to concentrate not to overbend the bow.

    This will be interesting.

Stepping over to the rack upon arrival, Anya reached out to pick one of the bows and hold it carefully in her hands. With equal attention, she slipped a taloned finger around the string and tugged it taut to test both the pull and her ability to manage it with her talons. As it was, the draconic detected no problems and she released the bow.

It twanged back, and Anya smiled faintly. This should be fun, as long as everyone managed to hit most of the targets. When it came to the archery, she had no clue who would be best. She was not aware of any Lost in the Freehold who were particularly proficient at this particular sport, so it should prove to be a rather interesting spectacle.

"So, the object of this contest is to hit the targets, not each other, right?" Anya questioned, and winked to indicate that she was not suddenly suffering from an acute case of stupidity.

Clare joined the others around the bow rack, eyeing the curves and strings and wondering how she'd do. She grinned at the other she recognized, and gave a respectful nod to the Pretty Elven lady. She was excited to try her hand at this, and wondered mildly if Rook was going to accidentally break what he was firing with.

As the Fairest comedian walked over to the line overlooking the target range, he giggled at Anya's joke. "Let's hope so, can't let the targets go to waste after someone went to the trouble of setting them up." There are a fair bit of Lost here he recognized and was more at ease being himself, picking up a bow and pulling it back experimentally. He tried to remember if he had ever handled something like this before and decided that if not he'd find out soon enough if he was a natural at it.

Duncan walked up to the area where the archery competition was to be held, offering a nod here and there to those who were already preparing to compete. "Rook, Anya," he said in greeting to his fellow Summer, offering them a pleasant smile. Shortly after greeting them, the Snowskin walked over to where the bows were hanging from and after inspecting those still available, he made his choice. The Constable grabbed one of the bows hanging from the wall, testing it out without arrows a few times. Once he seemed pleased by its performance, he walked back over to where the others were standing.
