Those who would be participating in the javelin throw were also lead outside, but another door was used. Similarly to where the foot race would be taking place, the immediate area of the Hedge to which they were lead to had been cleared of thorns to make space for the competition.
In the clearing, there were three red flags located at different distances. The flagpoles were javelins themselves, which had been stuck to the ground to mark short, mid and long range for the upcoming competition. There was also a wooden barrel located by the door, which contained a number of practice javelins of different colors.
