(1206) Summer Coronation

School is out and the temperatures quickly rising, signifying that Summer is here. Once again, the time has come for the changing of the Seasons. As its natural, the time for one Monarch to step down and pass the Freehold's crown to the next has arrived.

As guests enter the Four Seasons, they are greeted by the ever cordial hotel manager, the Wizened who is in charge of running the place in name of the whole Freehold. The Chatelaine leads those who have arrived through the halls of the hotel until they finally reach the Throne Room.

The place still has the touch of Spring, but it is obvious that it is quickly fading as Summer awaits for its turn. While there are still flowers and some moss hanging from the walls, the temperature is much hotter than the last time the whole Freehold gathered here. Also, there are several unlit torches hanging from the walls in the room.

Off to one side of the room, there is a long wooden table with several chafing dishes and trays on it. There are a variety of exotic dishes laid out on the table, and upon closer inspection it becomes obvious that the buffet is a little heavy on the meat side this time around. What's more, a few feet from the table there lies a makeshift fire pit, in which a massive hog of some sort is being roasted. As usual, Sam waits behind the bar for the guests to arrive and place their orders.

The hotel's staff is already congregating around the room. The Spring Queen, who also happens to be the chef of the hotel's restaurant "Fresh Tastes," is looking over the buffet to make sure everything is in order. From time to time, the Ogress walks over to check on the pig on the stick, turning it slightly to make sure that it is properly cooked.

Big Swilla is standing not far from the buffet, his predatory eyes fixated on the massive hunk of meat that is currently being cooked. Duncan has left the hotel's gym to attend the event. After all, the ice Elemental wouldn't miss it for anything. He seems to be in a positive mood, because today is the day when his King will take on the Freehold's crown. Meanwhile, Gianna is sitting in one of the tables with some cards laid out in front of her, and seems to be playing Solitaire or something of the sort.

Welcome to the Summer Coronation! As usual, please break off into separate threads when appropriate and label them with (Summer Coronation 2012) in the name. This thread will remain open for 1 month, and will be closing on July 21st. Have fun!

Rook strode into the Commons, feeling the heat in the air as his Mantle blazed white hot around him. The heat was a rolling boil that spoke to the fires inside his body, and he burned like a torch.

He was a torch. A light that issued from a powerful tower, because this was his season, and he was in his element. The other three Seasons held emotions that he understood, to an extent, but they would never burn in him like the power of Wrath. The power that had animated him to stand up and defy augury, defy everything he had had been transformed into and live, live in spite of everything. That was Wrath in its purest, most tempered form.

    The defiance of the Others.

    Living instead of just existing.

Controlling the weapon instead of being wielded as one.

The Constable of Calefaction turned to the Dragon with him and carefully offered her his arm.

"I think we're home," he said quietly, his mouth flicking into his trademark little half smile at Anya Wyrmblood .

The gangly alabaster-skinned jester walked with a bounce in his step down the stairs to the hotel lobby. Upon seeing Mr. Bates, Heath waved his hello and scooted up to the man. "Seems a little warmer in here lately, must be from that summer heat wave, woohoo," though he knew quite well it was solstice. And today was the coronation of Summer, which meant a whole season had passed since his arrival into the Freehold. "Just wanted to say, Mr. Bates, I really appreciate your discount on the room. I've been looking into a place of my own lately so won't have to waste business on me much longer. Gotta say, it's pretty hard to leave when you keep throwing all these fantastic parties," refering to the Freehold Courts. Of course it was the collective effort of the Freehold members that made the events so festive. He was eager to meet more of Sacramento's Lost and catch up on what everyone else was doing with their Summer.

Upon entering the Throne Room, Heath siddled up to the happy couple ( Anya Wyrmblood , Rook ), practically glowing with warmth and affection. Actually now that he thought about it they were collectively radiating the air. He stayed a couple feet away for fear of a sunburn.

"If you can't stand the heat... Well I would stay out of the kitchen if it didn't smell so good," quipped the jolly Fairest in regard to the Spring Queen's banquet with one of his wide grins. "Glad to see you both, looking forward to a fun-filled summer?" he asked conversationally.

The Draconic kept pace beside the Constable, as the two of them strode forward, her head held high as she surveyed the room. It was a terribly fine line between confidence and arrogance, and the woman on Rook's arm walked it very well. She had reason to walk with such purpose too, as one who had survived a near miss or two in the past year. Luck, such as it was, had been on her side and the Draconic intended to make the most of it while it lasted.

Her mantle positively blazed beside Rook's, the two Summer Courtiers creating quite the force as they entered. She had dressed for the occasion, but the red gown was elegant and simple, as opposed to overdone.

"I think you're right," Anya responded, and despite the flash of bronze fangs when she smiled, the expression was almost one of fondness.

She swivelled ever so slightly as Heath approached them, and the Draconic's yellow eyes glinted, the pupils narrowing into slits. "I see you've been practising," Anya commented.

The smile was still present, which was probably a good thing.

    From one Court to another.

Today's Court experiences were a sexual assault constitutional application, and the Coronation of the Summer Sovereign. Even though his client had freaked out right there in open court (read: because he was batshit crazy), Perry thought that the latter would be far more interesting than the former, to be sure.

The Shadowsoul removed his long overcoat at the door, draping it over an arm and giving a warm smile to Mr. Bates as he went by. Beneath it was one of his favorite tailored suits. Today, diCarto wore a black Italian suit that his ancient little tailor had just recently brought in an inch around the waist, with a freshly pressed white shirt and tie. His black leather shoes had been spitshined, his belt buckle polished, and his hair cut. He had even put on a pair of shining green emerald cufflinks that matched his eyes.

It was put together with professionalism in mind, and that was how Perry liked it when he met new people and attended formal events. Plus, the inch off his waist had him feeling great. The only problem he had tonight was the oddly fitting song he just couldn't drill out of his head.

Scanning the room, he noted that it hadn't yet filled up. Indeed, he was one of the first to arrive. Heading over to the bar, Perry offered Sam a smile. Once he had the man's attention, he asked, "Hello... may I have a gin and tonic, please?"

Trust a lawyer to find the liquor fast.

As the Fairest Dancer walked into the Four Seasons curious as to how the Summer crown toss varied from the Spring. L'aire smiled to Rook as she entered and the same went for a woman who was near him. Her walk purposful even though she was only meandering. She was wearing one of her costumed dresses again. Having barely just been employed, it's not like she could run out and blow a wad of cash. Tonight's little black number was one of her favorites and it showed. The nude material to be deceptive at first glance, with the lightly sequined black appliques about it.

As she smelled the swine on the spit, she again wondered why everyone in the Sacramento Freehold ate at all these events. It was like Las Vegas all over again. Buffets around every corner. The snowy glow of her skin was quite the contrast against the skirt and cuffs of her dress. The gentle chill slipped away from her skirt as the vivacious Winter took in the set up of the evening. L'aire may not have been smiling, but she appeared to be in a slightly good mood... for now.

Though she couldn't help but wonder if Rook wasn't honest with her. Perhaps the woman was just a friend of sorts. Though L'aire's memory wasn't the greatest, perhaps she misunderstood him on a previous occasion. Didn't really matter, she just didn't want a unwarranted black eye again.

Tally enters, she is wearing a faded yellow T-Shirt sporting zig-zag lines of red and orange across the top half. She is wearing a pair of jeans, she recalls the tournaments of last year and isn't sure if she'll take part of them. She takes in the room, although her mind is focused upon the past.

A year ago I have never attended one of these coronations and yet, I have been there when Spring turned into Summer, Summer into Autumn, Autumn into Winter, and Winter into Spring. Tally thinks as she pulls her lips together before relaxing and sighing. With a slight shake of her head, she spies somebody she hasn't met, which at this point are two Fairests, one of which seems to be of the Winter court and the other... I don't think I've seen him at any of the little gatherings within the Hollow before.

Tally heads towards the man in a nice suit, Perry diCarto .

    2012-06-21 22:30:22 Black Jessica rolls 6 to Ghostly Presence (Presence + Wyrd, 10 Again) (10 Again) 6, 4, 2, 5, 7, 5 failure

Jessica couldn't surpress a shiver as she entered the room, instinctively trying to open her mind to the denizens of the Underworld - the ones she always felt were near - and instead was met with utter silence. Folding one arm across her chest, she started to gnaw on the edge of her knuckle, around a lip of protuding bone, and watch the room around her, hoping to remain unnoticed. Even in a room full of those who've been touched and changed by the fae, however, she tended to feel as if she stuck out. She wondered if it was just her nerves playing up, though. Maybe she did blend in. Except for the fact that she didn't know much of the court, so they might notice her. Was that a good or a bad thing?

Punch. Food. It offered a distraction from her mess of nervous thoughts, and the Gravewight gently headed for the table, her footsteps occasionally leaving a trace of age or rot on the carpet, only to fade. With a creak of bone, skin splitting around the wrist, she took a small cup and filled it with the bowl of fruit punch, fingers wrapping around it as if it was the most precious thing in the world, and watching each fae in turn, breathing in, breathing out.

The castle-man looked interesting - powerful, commanding, like the kind of person who'd leap in front of a charging Keeper. She broke off that train of thought, however, unwilling to tempt fate. Besides, he looked terrifyingly serious, not like the kind of man who'd appreciate a distraction.
Instead, she focused on the lawyer by the bar. After the castle, he looked the toughest, the most protective. Before she could think about it further, her feet had carried her back over to the laywer's side, her gaze focused on the pattern the chunks of fruit made in the cup.

If the underworld wasn't there to keep her company, he was the next best thing.

And all the girls dreamed that theyyyyy'd be your partner, theyy'd be your partner aaaannd... you're so va--

Perry didn't so much see the people who had silently meandered up behind him at the bar as feel and hear them coming. It snapped him out of his reverie of having such a classic stuck in his head and brought his smile back to his face. Figuring he had a moment before his drink arrived, he turned around, looking first to the Beast, then the ghostly woman who had appeared at his side suddenly.

But then they... didn't say anything. Hmm.

"Good evening," he greeted a second later, thinking about how if they had been new associates at the firm, he would've awkwardly stared at them with a raised brow until they gathered enough gumption to speak. Perhaps the only reason he didn't was the fact that these two could be Sovereigns for all he knew.

    -1 glamour to Harden Mask

The Four Seasons Freehold Commons, and this time, prepared for Summer. Although the Winter had decided to wear summer colors the when he had first arrived, because it had been an Winter event, and wearing summer was just too funny.

But things had changed, now his suit wasn’t the black and gold he had worn but a crisp dark blue. His now sun-bleached hair was in it’s semi-combed back style that he loved so much.

He looked around the room, noting the way things had begun to group already, and that his Student hadn’t arrived. He smirked, though, when he saw the Constable with Evil Barney. But it was the Evil Drow Defense Lawyer (tm) surrounded by women that piqued his curiosity.

    How could he not.

The Chocolate and Cinnamon scented slid up along side of the dark elf, relishing in the thought of what a stunning couple they would make, if his mask hadn’t been hardened. He wrapped a casual arm around the waist of the Lawyer with a sly smile.

“Well good day, Counsellor, Ladies.” The blue suit next to the black suit did look quite fantastic.
