The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Upon hearing Circe's orders Aesop hops into the air and seamlessly takes the form of a vulture. He takes a high vantage over the landscape zeroing in on the location that the Hierophant suspects most likely of mountain lion activity. He knows joy when he is so high above the earth, part of the circle of life yet not bound to it like a shackle. When he finds signs of familiar terrain he puts down and starts the hunt.

    Narration:

Aesop's flight takes him far east of Sacramento, into the lower slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains. This trip takes him the bulk of the night. As he starts his hunt, looking for any sign of the elusive predator he seeks, he realizes a couple things. First, he is low on Vitae due to his frequent transformation, even after feeding earlier on the deer. Second, he knows he won't be able to get much hunting time in before dawn.

If you wish to have Aesop look for food prey, roll Wits + Survival (Hunting). This is primarily a perception-based task, and so the Gangrel clan weakness does not apply.

If you want him to look about for signs of mountain lion, you need to roll Wits + Survival at -3 to try to find tracks (this is again a perception-based task) and Intelligence + Animal Ken to know what else to look for. The clan weakness does apply to the Animal Ken roll.

Aesop Tests the waters he attempts to hold back his transformation part way, so he'd have the hands of a man and the head of the wolf, but for all his struggles he can't maintain the form. He decides to become the wolf and survey the area, he may have to be here for a while.

Since Aesop does not have the Partial Transformation Devotion yet, we'll treat his attempts to do that as mostly a RP consideration right now, though if you want to spend a Vitae toward the attempts now and then, I will count that as effort toward him figuring out that Devotion once he has the prerequisites and necessary experience accounted for. Meanwhile, please keep an ongoing Vitae track in Aesop's signature. We'll assume the feeding in this post will put him back to full, so start tracking it from there.

    Narration:

Aesop is easily able to find another deer upon which to slake his thirst. Along the way, he is quite lucky, in that he finds evidence of mountain lion tracks along with a kill no more than two days old. He isn't able to successfully track the big cat to its lair, and as dawn approaches he has other concerns, but he now knows the cat hunts within this area.

Aesop finds a suitable place to rest where he will get the necessary seclusion. He would concoct a plan when he slept, and wake with his day mapped out. He yawned in his wolf form, teeth snapping lazily like rubber bands and sunk himself under the soil without a thought.

    Narration:

The next night, Aesop awakens as usual. As he emerges from the soil, he notices nothing amiss.

Aesop wakes in his wolf form and resumes his quest. He looks to reacquire his target and observe it's behavior.

Aesop is able to easily find the kill he'd located earlier, where he also found tracks. Knowing where to start from, it shouldn't be too difficult for him to track.

Roll Wits + Survival + 1 for Aesop's Scent specialization and +2 for wolf form, -2 for the age of the trail.

Aesop paws at the ground, and puts his nose to the scent of his prey. Once he feels he is confident he continues his quest

    Narration:

Despite the darkness, which renders his vision less reliable, Aesop's sense of smell, bolstered by his wolf form, allows him to follow the trail of the elusive cat. Along the way, he comes several times to places where long gouges have been clawed into tree trunks.

Finally, Aesop finds a spot where the scent is stronger, which he assumes means the cat is nearby, or at very least passes through the area often. He is at a cliff face, so sheer as to be near-vertical.
