It was a quiet night on the range. Lane Six had been prepared, several clips of FMJ ammunition sitting in a little row next to some safety goggles and ear protectors that Neil Kingsley would never use. He wasn't going to tune out the world. The sound of the gunshot was important to him; with the silencer and subsonic rounds, he could hear everything with his Gifts without having his mind explode from an overload. The way the firing pin struck. The way the bullet spun from the threaded barrel, through the suppressor. The next bullet sliding into position from the magazine. Firearms were beautiful things indeed.

Neil had left the silencer at home today. It wouldn't do to have such things in public. Some ranges had some, licensed for people to try. But wasting subsonic ammo on the range to actually get a quiet shot was simply pissing cash away, and Neil Kingsley did not remain highly liquid by pissing cash away. And firing a full metal jacket .40 round through a silencer didn't silence shit. One had to have the subsonics to match it if one wanted any sort of actual quiet shot.

Speaking of beautiful things... where was Alice Brown , anyway? Neil leaned against the lane divider, his Beast silent, his blue jeans and black t-shirt sleek against his body. He relaxed, settling in to wait.

Completely in the mood for using her ghoul as driver, Alice arrives at the shooting range. She walks inside with a happy smile on her face, soon followed by Nicholas. She's just looking great because she almost never wears special clothes for sports and similar activities.

Her ghoul carries a bag, which he hands over as soon as Alice nods to Neil. Nicholas grabs a magazine and sits somewhere near the entrance, not appearing to further care for what's happening with Alice.

'Mr. Kingsley, good evening.' With her sports bag in her hand she makes her way over to lane six. Her Beast growled aggressively, looking around for other Beasts. When none seem to be here, it looks hungrily at some of the kine. 'I hope your evening has been faring well so far?'

Alice and ghoul

Neil's eyes track the ghoul and his regnant as they enter. His Beast quavers in fear of the monsterous power of Alice Brown's blood monster, but he keeps it together. He was thankful that there was no confrontation of Beasts between them; hers clashing with his would simply be a bad joke.

He raised a hand in a wave as she approached. He was on the far side of the range, so he had to enter. "Hello, Ms. Brown. I'm great, thanks. How are you?" He motioned to lane seven with a small smile, the last spot of seven lanes at the small range. "I think seven's open?"

'I've felt worse, thank you. But I can always feel better.' Alice grins and looks at lane seven before nodding to Neil. It is open, and even if someone else would be there if wouldn't take very long to make sure that person removed himself from the lane. Alice has so many gifts to manipulate one's mind, she can never choose which one she wants to use when she needs it.

From the bag she takes a pair of Smiths & Wesson generic.40's, one in each hand*. 'Okay, what kind of game do you want to play?' There are several things people can do at a shooting range, and the Harpy assumes Neil can think of something better than to just have them both do a solo shooting exercise.

shooting ranges

He smiled slightly, whirling a beautiful .40 of his own out from his bag. It's black, shining, polished and has a well-calibrated green laser sighting array attached to the bottom, iron sights on the top... just in case. Turning off the laser sight was the matter of a flick of an on-off switch. It was a nice, well-loved gun. It spun into the grip of his left hand; the Mekhet was a southpaw.

"Why don't we see how fast we can put down ten targets that pop up each to start... from a quickdraw?"He grinned. Might as well see how good the girl was. Neil put his leather holster on his left hip, looking to Alice for her thoughts.

'Sounds fair, a match about swiftness first, we can do one of precision thereafter.' Alice winks to the Mekhet, then puts her duel holster around her hips. A moment she checks if both her guns are fire-ready, then she puts them in the holsters.

'Just say it if you're ready to fire.' Alice isn't sure if someone would complain if she doesn't protect her ears or some similar silly mortal things like that, but she stands ready without protection.

Neil headed over to the range's computer, selecting twenty pop-up targets popping up at rapid intervals. He said, "It'll count down from ten, then we draw." Hitting the red button, he ran back over to his lane with three seconds to spare. A red light above the range showed '3', '2', '1'...

Initiative 18

Neil Kingsley vaguely noticed Alice Brown's arm become a blur of motion. Somewhere in the back of his mind was a concern for the Masquerade, but as he quick-drew his weapon with the technical perfection of a true professional and began shooting, his green laser sight flicking between targets with the pinnacle of natural speed and focus, he blocked it out. He could talk to her about it after, if he felt the need to piss off the Harpy of Sacramento. His bullets sprayed out of his beautiful .40, one striking a pop-up target dead between the eyes. The second flew wide and the third struck centre mass in the heart area on the target, knocking it down.

The Mekhet's focused, narrowed eyes moved to acquire his next target as his body used little twitch reflexes to pointshoot his way through the targets as fast as humanly possible...

Properly trained as she is, Alice has both her weapons in her hand as soon as red '1' fades, she wants to fire a shot when she notices Neil's first shot. Then Alice fires and hits, it wouldn't put a man down but every bleeding wound helps. She hears another shot.

Two guns?

Her left hand fires, striking the target right in the center. That would hurt. Then she hears a third shot.

The quick-drawin' Mekhet heard the screaming blasts of Alice's dual pistols, but his three shots, pointed, aimed, fired, were faster than both of her aimed shots from two pistols. His face was a mask of pure focus, his lips pressed into a flat line as his arm snapped to and fro, another trio of bullets flying into three targets, knocking them down. Two of the shots were excellent. The third wasn't perfect, but it did the job, blasting the pop-up human target right back down.

Four-five-six-- his mind chanted, counting the bullets, readying itself for a reload if it was needed. Neil Kingsley was always ready for a reload. His arm continued on its track to the next target, snapping across to put lead in paper ---

The game has merely begun and Alice doesn't like it anymore. Ah well, she likes shooting humans... pop-up humans. Obviously.

3/10 Not lethal but seriously damaging.

The reason that she doesn't like the game is because she doesn't like losing. Neil was quick enough to hit more than Alice could with two guns.

4/10...

The only way to win is to "distract" him, but I won't cheat. I'm not that childish.
