Road Trip

Confident that their territory will be well defended by their loyal totem while they're away, the four Shadow Seekers resolve to do the logical thing and steal a car to get there. Cunning enough to pick their battles, they know that travelling to the lake through the Hisil might only alert their waiting enemies.

So their Beta jacks a car. It's an old, beaten up Chevy, with one of the doors a completely different colour to the chasis. In addition, after some observation, they realised that it hadn't been visited by anyone recently. Probably abandoned.

But if not, no one's likely to miss it anyway.

It takes Sally a little longer than she would have liked to open the lock up, but she does so without tripping the car alarm, and then they're away.

Once they're about half an hour out of Sacramento, it becomes obvious that they've gotten away with it. No one is following them, and the Police are firmly not present.

Sally rides in the front passanger seat of the stolen car. Part of her felt bad about stealing the car, and all that she could have jepordized if she got caught. But then again, she needed to make sure that if they had to leave the vehicle, it was not able to be tracked back to her.

Sally dressed for function today. Including the leather gloves on her hands to make sure that her prints were not being left in the car. Sally looked to Matthew, "Are you ready for this?" Sally was asking her alpha out of concern, when really, he should be asking her this. She was the one scared by all this.

Matthew sits behind the wheel, not speaking much. In contrast to his pack-sister, he didn't feel anything in particular about the car. If the previous occupant couldn't defend what they had, how could they even begin to claim ownership of it? It had taken a reminder from Sally for him to even wear gloves, the distance from the peculiarities of the Herd having grown so great.

Still, all this wasn't to say that he was perfectly relaxed. Golden Bear would keep his word, and was a capable protector, but the thought of leaving their territory so far behind had him a bit on edge. And even though he doubted anything dangerous would happen on the road, he still strained at sounds and scents that he knew should be there but escaped the dull senses of the Hishu.

At Sally's question, however, all this is pushed aside. The unease was minor, and certainly nothing the pack needed to deal with. "Of course. It's just a few Anshega. Should be no problem."

Alejandra relaxed back in the back seat of the car, somewhat content that the police or furious owners were not about to appear from around the corner to chase them down. It had been touch and go, by very dint of having to steal a car. She had faith in Sally's abilities, and if Matthew had deemed the theft right, then so it was. But the Irraka had never been on the wrong side of the law, and it would have been a terrible shame to gain a criminal record in her early thirties. Or at all, for that matter.

Now she could look to the actual, important task ahead of them.

"How long will it take us to reach our destination?"

Stefan rode in the back, because that was just how it went down. He too, wasn't particularly bothered by theft, but he'd lived rough for so long that the boundary between 'crime' and 'necessary for survival' had all but blurred out. If people couldn't keep a hold of what they owned, then they didn't deserve to have it, in his opinion. Which was perhaps, something of the wolf that had reached back before he'd ever changed.

"Remembers-Bloody-Vengeance said 'not more than a day's travel, so... we've probably got some drive time to plan,"
the Cahalith drawled, grinning like a flash of lightning across a peaceful sky. "Y'know, I've been thinking. You should have a deed name, Ale. After that story you told about killing that Spirit. You should've got one then." He half-closed his eyes. "I dunno, Foestalker or something."

Sally didn't say anything, just went back to reading her book. She didn't think that deed names were something to be discussed on a car trip. It should be more... cerimonial. If they make it through this, then Sally will discuss the deed names with the others. Because this is definitly the thing that will earn them one...

Alejandra could remember numerous road trips with her dad, many years ago- with singalongs and tall tales of monsters hiding the the woods that they would soon be camping in. They had thrilled the nine-year-old her, little had she known what could truly lurk beyond the tallest and darkest trees. This journey, short though it might be, would have an altogether different sort of destination. The motivation was different. It would not be fun and games, and she could not relax too much.

But a bit of conversation would be nice. Singing would not be an option for this Irraka.

"We'll see," Alejandra responded, with a little smile. "I like that one though. It rings a little."

Matthew smiles, glancing at Alejandra in the rear-view mirror. "It's a good name. And something tells me you're about to get plenty of chance to earn it. We've got ... I'd figure about an hour and a half."

Stefan flashed a comfortable, lightning fast grin at Matthew.

    "Maybe we should slow down,"
he drawled. "Give them a chance to escape." It wasn't exactly brashness. He just wanted to help the pack get psyched up before they ended up in a life or death situation.

His dreams had been... uncomfortable. There was something looming ahead, and he could sense it with every fibre of his being.

"Seriously though. We've got some planning time. Maybe we should plan this out."

"I agree Stefan, but we have no idea what we are in store for. So we must be ready for everything and anything." Sally says not looking up from her book.
