Day Trip

All things considered, it's been a nice drive. Joshua had taken the car through the Eldorado Forest, and though he'd done it mostly for Animus' benefit he had to admit it was pleasant to get away from the cityscape of Sacramento for a while. Eventually the forest had gotten sparser, the trees falling back further from the road, until opening up into plains just beyond the Nevada border. Just a few more minutes and they'd be in Carson City; he could just see it sparkling in the distance like a mirage.

Any other day he'd just keep going; he knew some folk out past Silver Springs that he hadn't seen in a dog's age. Unfortunately there was business to be attended to. Maybe Animus would be up for it once this was all over...

Both hands still on the wheel, he points forward with both of his index fingers. "There it is."

[Animus]

For his part, Animus seems to almost be asleep, although Joshua would likely know better. Even at speeds which only the most nimble animals could hope to match, he could feel the press of wildlife, a beautiful tapestry against which sight was a mere distraction.

It was peaceful, a simpler world. And at the moment, one that he longed for. He understood animals, knew their drives. And this ghost, ... he just couldn't make any sense out of her. And the pieces that did make sense were more frightening than anything else.

But he couldn't keep shutting her out, no matter how much he might wish not to deal with her. As he calls down the Supernal, the grey pallor permeating Twilight is expected, almost becoming familiar. Is it really Twilight it infected, or is it me?

Eyes finally flick open as he turns toward the ghost. Perhaps part of why he found her disturbing could be found in the fact that she didn't ping on his more esoteric senses at all. "Scarlet, which direction is your place?"

Scarlett looks around and then slowly floats north east, along a mountain and through the trees. Her small baby steps seem to push her forward easily. She looks back.

"This way."

The air is thicker than usual and there is a resonance of peace in the area. There is also something of an underlying duality to the area, the peace punctuated with A feeling of intense sadness and guilt.

Joshua puts the car in park. "Not what I expected when I got up this morning," he says idly, and steps out. Glancing around, he pulls his Beretta and gives it a press-check before slipping it away. Not that he expected to use it, but the familiarity was comforting. He waits for Animus and then follows after the ghost. His hands, deep in his pockets, clench momentarily as the emotion of the area begins to wash over him.

Once the car is parked, the Thyrsus steps out, following Scarlet. As the resonance shifts, he sniffs nervously at the air, almost immediately feeling the emotion root itself in him.

Eyes flick to Scarlet, questioning.

Scarlet motions him forward.

"You always came out here to be alone." she says smiling at him. "You loved nature. Told me that everything had a spirit ." she grinned and moves through the trees. Sunlight glimmers through the leaves and makes her fade out in places. She drift through the trees, and as you move closer there are disctinct signs of ... tearing in the veil.

Jakob was starting to sound mighty familiar, but Joshua kept his mouth shut on that point. Aside from the resonance hanging over everything, the forest was beginning to creep him out. Hopefully they weren't too much further--and hopefully they'd be leaving her behind when they went home.

The Thyrsus continues onward, sense of self starting to fray again. That description was so much ... him. Could he be sure he wasnt ... ? A hand drifts out, dragging along trees as he passes. For a moment, he feels as though he could just melt into this forest and be gone, like there was no him to maintain a presence.

As he continues, he tenses up, the tear in reality pinging subconsciously. Wary eyes probe the surroundings as he stays close behind Scarlet. The small noises of the forest continually draw his attention, as if half-expecting some predator to leap out of the shadows.

The Woman continues onwards. She seems to be talking about nothing now. Just words to fill the air. Remembering picnics and discussions long ago forgotten. As she moves she almost seems to get more real... more solid.
