As a reminder, this thread is reserved for Summer Courtiers, Those with Court Goodwill to Summer and any Lost who are Staff at the Forge

The Forge is closed tonight as far as anyone who is not in the know is concerned.

As the Summer Courtiers enter they find Music being played through the sound system. Its loud, its heavy, and its not stopping. The heat in the entire place has been cranked up to about 85 degrees. Now that may not be too bad for some of you, but there is also several metal braziers around the open floor with Fire's burning in them. Add to that the large open pit barbeque in front of the stage. The air handlers are certainly getting a workout within the Forge, thankfully the owner opened the skylights as well.

Add to that around the room there are a number of open casks of wine and beer.

As the Lost enter they will see a line of steins on a table near the door and the cage has been lowered for the obvious fights that will be happening tonight.

On the stage in the center is a four foot high pillar with a huge beer stein on it.

Rook was there first. It was his responsibility to be the first in and the last out. That was what it meant to him, to be the Constable of Calefaction. It was like a lifeline, an anchor to his old life. In the pocket of his suit, his thumb ran across the old, worn badge. Sure, he hadn't been a 'constable', because that was an old, historical term. But he'd been a police officer through and through, long before he'd been a chesspiece. He had been a good person, instead of a creature that could kill on a whim and die without remorse or regret.

Sometimes, in his moments of deepest struggle with his nature, the Metalflesh wondered if it was a balancing act that he had become a Rook. His nature was a strange paradox of brutal, powerful murder, and the urge to sacrifice himself without hesitation for the King. Castling, after all, usually ended with the death of the Rook. A piece to save the game.

He shook off those thoughts, his sunglassed gaze sweeping the Forge. Tonight, there were only the Lost present. Tonight, he could risk himself among the Court, without causing problems. He yearned for it. The Board whispered to him at the base of his neck, whispered of the moves to come. He would balance that, too, and come out the victor.

But first, I'm doing my damn job.

Anya arrived a few minutes after Rook and, a split-second after arriving studied the Forge with an interested expression etched upon her face. It would be quite nice to wander around without worrying about an enforced pretense due to "outsiders".

She studied the fires of the braziers, a smile tugging her lips. Ah, it felt like home almost. She did so love fire - it was difficult to resist the urge to plunge her fingers inside the flicker flames and play. But she refrained, if only because that might have been considered disturbing. That and she didn't want to damage Spartan's business; she was fairly sure that if she burnt down the Forge, she wouldn't be allowed to be his accountant anymore...

Anya's fingers tapped a little in time to the music, talons lightly clicking against the red dress she had worn for the occasion. "Good evening, Rook," she greeted softly as she slipped beside the Constable.

Magnus is a haus when alcohol is on the line
    Date Action Roll Result
    2012-01-24 01:51:18 Magnus rolls 6 to hoist and carry 2 half-barrel kegs, one on each shoulder. (10 Again) 2, 9, 7, 1, 10, 5, 10, 2 3 successes

Magnus approaches the Forge staggering under the weight of two wooden kegs balanced one on each shoulder with each respective arm wrapped around as much of the circumference of it's barrel as is possible. He had been invited to attend by the Summer King himself, and as such pulled every trick he knew to fulfill the King's request to brew a keg in a week. He had made two. He staggers under the weight of his load through the main door past Rook and Anya, grunting at each as he goes by.

Magnus staggers for a moment as he orients himself, then he moves across the room with purpose. He approaches the main bar and with a groan and grunt of relief he sets first one than the other down on their sides each with a resounding thud. Once placed he rummages through his pockets and produces four wooden wedges. He quickly places them along the outside of the two touching barrels so they do not roll away. He also produces a bungtap and two large plugs made of cork. He steps back to admire his work.

Once in place the barrels can be clearly seen to bare caricatures burned into the flat wood of the tops now facing out into the main room. One bears the image of a pixie-like fairy with a big grin revealing razor sharp teeth and the word "Grig" dancing along the top. The ale is a pilsner with an overall light flavor and a very strong scent and taste of lemongrass. The other barrel has the image of a low-slung, four-legged creature with a long tail - much like a ferret - only with an old man's face. The name of this one is burned across the barrel as "Drudgeman". Brewed in the Scottish style, the beer is a full and rich mid-dark beer with a hint of caramel.

Magnus nods once, then turns back to the room, clearly intending to wait until more are present to tap the kegs.

Clare wasn't far behind Magnus, almost offering assistance when he stumbled, even, but backed off when he caught himself. Still, she was frozen at the door, hand half raised, until the guy made it to the bar. She let out a sigh of relief when it was apparent that he hadn't hurt himself lifting or carrying the barrels, and with that, she was moving again.

She was mostly looking around the Forge, taking in everything that couldn't be seen when it was packed; she was honestly gawking a bit. And... wow, that was a really huge Stein. She winds up near rook and nods to him.
    "Hey."

    Description

Terri's Mask is that of a petite, cute woman with vibrant red hair that has black streaks throughout. Obviously athletic, her natural demeanour is friendly and she always tends to have a smile on her face.

Her fae mien is akin to a red squirrel. She has a long bushy tail and ear tufts that poke through her hair. The black streaks are actually black feathers the are a part of her mien now,; a part of her noble order.

Terri's powerful Mantle initiates itself as the smell of baking bread but brings with it the feeling of the Harvest, that time to take stock of the coming troubles.

Terri was pretty excited. She'd built up her relationship to the Crimson Spear through a couple years of trial and error and had slowly come to appreciate what the Court of Wrath was about. To be invited to the initiation of a new Courtier seemed special and Terri was well aware of the honor that had been granted to her as an outsider and one of the Court of Fear.

She'd even made the effort not to wear a dress.

With dark jeans, a black sleeveless vest and some killer heels, Terri was ready to face what could be a rowdy night. She was only glad she understood how to ride Autumn's leaves, just in case.

Entering the Forge and the first thing that hit her was the heat, instantly causing her Mantle ro react, the Harvest swirling in anticipation of ripened fruit, grown wheat and freshly brewed beer.

    Speaking of which....

Terri watched as Magnus managed to set himself up and smiled, making a mental note to talk with him later. Heading past the entrance, she scanned the cage, the steins and listened to the music, amazed at it all, before heading over to the group gathering.

"Evening Rook, Anya, how're you both been?" she asked before looking to Clare and offering a hand. "Hey, name's Terri, nice to meet you."

Spartan steps out of the upstairs office and looks down from the Mezzanine to see who has arrived. He made his way down the steps and walked over to Rook, Anya, Clare, Magnus and Terri.

"Good evening everyone." Spartan says with a nod to the group at large. "I am pleased you could join us Terri." Spartan says with a nod to the Harvest Envoy. She was one of the Few Outsiders Spartan truely welcomed in an event such as this. Magnus is welcome, but thats because of his position within the Forge and his ability to make booze. But something about Terri showed that she belonged with the Crimson, even though her Mantle said elsewise.

The hoplite picked up a Tankard and handed them to each of the people present. "Please Eat Drink and enjoy. Mrs Rosemary Readed the Pit Barbeque for us."

Spartan wondered where the others were. This is a party for the Court. He hoped that they all would come.

If it is cold outside. Rust does not know it. Tonight there will be no pretense. No lie. No Mask.

Words are cheap, as Rust has learned. Cheaper then... "Brother." Rust enters slowly, wary of provoking attack. NOt sure how to act. What will be the reaction be to his presence?

Rust's Mantle flares against the cold alone, mingling with it. Frigid lighting arcing around him, each flash throwing his feature in strange shadow.
"For who is this party for?" Rust looks between Anya, Clare, and Magnus.
    Well not Magnus.

Rook nodded to Magnus, but didn't offer to help. Anyone who'd made the decision that they were going to do it on their own, he figured, could either do it, or was too proud to ask for help. Either way, that meant he wasn't going to get involved. If there was one thing he understood almost instinctively, it was pride. He was a man in whom it intertwined so pointedly with his better nature that one was almost indistinguishable from the other.

    "Anya, Magnus, Clare, Terri,"
the Constable greeted, with one of his amicable, corner of the mouth smiles. "Glad you're all here. King Spartan, thanks." He took the tankard and raised it to his mouth.

Then the door open, and he paused.

That was interesting. Rook had wondered if Rust would dare show his face, but given the former Summer King's propensity to run off and... do whatever he did, presumably complain to someone... the chesspiece had decided it was probably unlikely he'd turn up. That would be too much like showing backbone.

Hm. Maybe the lesson he'd tried to demonstrate had just taken some time to sink in, and Rust had learnt that running off and licking his wounds was all very well for a cat, but not suitable for a King. Or even a disgraced former King. Or, for that matter, a person. Rook never had been good at forgiving cowardice, moral or otherwise. Being a chesspiece just made it so much harder to see the world in anything other than black and white.

"Rust. It's for Justin Kincaid. This is his initiation to the Summer Court,"
Rook answered, and his voice held less amicability than before. It was the tone of a man ready to protect something he believed in, if it should be proved necessary. "You'll be welcoming him like the rest of us, then." The chequered mantle, light and dark patches of heat flickered in the air around the Metalflesh.
