Blackness all around. Safety, comfort and serenity. A familiar voice.

All around the darkness swirls,
agony is gone but sorrow remains.
You float as if on a darkened plain,
colors so dim you only see your pain.
I know your still searching for where it began,
but you cannot find it without a proper plan.
For what you find and what you do is not a dream,
its time to wake and start to SCREAM!

He almost flew out of bed, his muscles tense like iron as he came to his feet. He was disoriented for the first couple of seconds, and didn't notice that what he was hearing was his own snarling. He started to relax immediately, now certain there was no threat. A throbbing in his hand made him look at it, and for a moment he thought he saw blood on it. It was just a mirage though, his eyes adjusting to the darkness in his room. He sat down on the bed again, hiding his face in his hands wishing he could breath a sigh of relief that it was just a dream. But the voice had haunted his dreams ever since his sons last birthday, and he was almost sure it was his voice. Rough, even feral, but his to be sure. He laid down on the bed again, staring at night light near the dresser. Toby had been afraid of the dark all his life, and Ezra had given his son one just like it to give him some light when he had to sleep. Ezra had never believed in heaven and the forgiving god, but the past few years had given him some perspective. If there was a heaven Toby was there for sure, and Irina too.

Ezra turned over on his other side, not baring to look at the light anymore. He closed his eyes, hoping the voice would leave him alone until evening fell.
