Rick glances about as the new arrivals assemble, taking a steadying breath before speaking. "A Freehold is more than just a hierarchy, a system of governance. It's a mystical bond, an ever-changing cycle of voluntarily relinquished power, ties of community and camaraderie that the Gentry cannot comprehend. And by truly dedicating, swearing yourself to it you can afford yourself the protection it provides. A measure of defense against the others, an invaluable tool in resisting them."
One last pause as he glances over the crowd; wondering how many would stay, what contributions they would give, how they would shape the Freehold as it traveled through the troubles that faced it. "As the four Seasons come and go, and one ruler changes for another, as is the natural way of things, we shall watch over the Freehold and shape it from the predations of the Others. In return, we ask that you shall follow the rules laid down and never bring danger to our society, and in doing so, you shall find your mind stays whole and focused. Break this oath, however, and you shall be banished from this land forever."
"Alright." Otto says. "Catch ya later." Turning Otto heads off, leaving Caster and Rook at their table.

Terri arrives near the campfire with Tom just as Rick begins to recite the Freehold Oath, proud of the bond she has to her King and, more importantly, her heartsworn.

"Thank you Otto." Spartan says before turning to Rook, "What do you think Constable?" the Hoplite asks.
Deadly frowns slightly, looking at the others assembled. It wasn't the keeping the Freehold safe part he objected to - rather, the fact that the Courts seemed to place so much emphasis on themselves was what disturbed him. Seeing the mass of Mantles around makes him realize that it isn't likely anyone else shares his concern.
Clearing his throat he finally speaks up, "What about those of us who are Courtless?" His arms spread displaying nothing more than a formal coat and vest that have seen better days. "Your Oath seems all well and good for the Seasonal types, but it seems to leave out a good chunk of us."
Tom winced a little for Deadly, he had seen the power of nature, and had himself felt the call of Autumn.. even if it was still weak within him. Giving of power would be anthema to Them, and he knew that a pack was stronger than a motley of solo individuals.
Stepping forward, he bowed his head low bending at the waist and spreading his arms wide. His knees too stiff and barky to easily bend, he tried to make it courtly and presented himself to the Autumn Soveriegn. " I pledge myself to the freehold and those it shelters. May my actions improve it, keep it safe, and do no harm to members or the laws of the freehold. This I vow." said Tom, hoping he had remembered to include all the proper words.

"The Oath focuses on the Seasons because it is the rotation of the Courts that provide protection from the Fae, but that protection still extends to the Courtless." It was a simple, straightforward, and complete answer. So would he accept it...or was the question indicative of a deeper issue he might hold?
"And, of course, you're not obligated to swear it." You just couldn't necessarily count on the mystic protection woven into it if you didn't.
"I think anyone who's so obsessed with the idea of a bunch of strangers wrecking the place, with no discernable motive, shows that they'd probably wreck someone else's place with no qualms, just because they weren't being watched," Rook said flatly, shaking his head very slightly.
"No reason we should go in assuming the Directionals're going to start a fight. They may just be after this dragon, and then be out of here. If they do cause trouble, we'll take care of it when it arises. Tactically, there is no need for a pre-emptive strike."
