Tally strains her senses to study the area about them. With her lips pressed firmly in a line as she stares at the plants about them on either side of the path.
Check Surroundings
As Spartan leads them through the encroaching Briars, he detects muffled sounds of movement coming from either side. Adding to the Summer King's anxiety is the fact that he has apparently led them all right into a dead end. In fact, as he peers into the seemingly impenetrable Thorns surrounding them, the bloodbrute gets the sinking feeling that the Hedge has reacted to their fear and confusion by leading them astray. While Tally also hears the leaves rustling and twigs snapping from the shifting shadows, her hackles start to rise when her canine nostrils pick up the slightly musky scent of a nearby predator. Wyatt, on the other hand, doesn't hear a thing. He's too busy looking at the numerous black, shiny berries that he notices growing in abundance all around them. They hang from bushes that appear identical to the ones they have been walking past the entire time. Perhaps those bushes had simply already been picked clean. As he pulls one of the branches forward to get a closer look, he catches the briefest glimpse of a sinister-looking creature staring back at him with dark, intelligent eyes before it melts back into the surrounding shadows. It appeared to be the size and shape of a large wolf, and it's thick, glossy hide was as black as tar. However, instead of canine jaws, the creature appeared to possess a sharp, bird-like beak. Oblivious to Wyatt's discovery, Spartan continues to search the Thorns for a way forward. Whether he simply overlooked it before, or the Wyrd emotional reactivity of the Hedge is responding to his overpowering urge to find the house of the Bogeyman, the ogre notices a gap in the Briars that just might be wide enough for them to squeeze through to the clearing beyond.
One of his legs starts trembling in fear, for the rest he could still control himself. Don't be afraid, they can feel that. Don't show you're scared, it only encourages predators...
He lets go of the bushes and does one step backwards, tightening his leg so it stopped trembling. 'Uhm, guys and gals, you might wanna looks at these wolf-raven hybrid campers in the bushes?'
Pretend to be comfortable, c'mon. The grip on his sword is tightened.
Just overcome fear, like you should.
His eyes shortly glance back at the bushes... and his leg starts trembling again.
Spartan turns his head to see the beast. "Ignore it unless it acts aggressively." Spartan looked at it. "It is wolf and bird, probably a pack hunter. Where there is one there will be more." The hoplite says with. "Wyatt, Do not take your eye off it. Justin, assist him. Tally, Do you see this gap?" Spartan points it out to the smallest member of the group. "I need you to go through and see what is on the other side. You are the smallest and will fit through the easiest."
Tally nods as she looks away from the hybrid predator. It's hard to ignore the musky scent that's coming off the Hedge beast. She does her best to avoid touching the thorns and once on the other side, she glances about the area, observing what she can.
What She Sees
As Justin listens to the movements within the the Brambles, he tries to catch a better glimpse of the darker shadows that seem to melt into one another within their verdant depths. However, neither he nor Wyatt can seem to get a clear look at the creatures. Tally, on the other hand, has a crystal clear view of the rather dilapidated Victorian house in the middle of the clearing. She also notices a small pile of rubbish in the middle of the front yard. Overall, the area looks a bit overgrown and possibly abandoned.
Tally needs to roll her Wyrd to squeeze her way through the Thorns unscathed. Failure means that she loses one point of Glamour as they scratch and bite her.
Justin nodded at Spartan's instructions. It was a good bet that these things weren't following them as a good-will escort.
Oddly enough, despite the fact that he didn't really know anyone in the group as well as he should, he felt as though a gap had been closed somewhere along the line. Maybe he was starting to fit in after all....and if he survived this, he would have grounds to kick himself for dicking around for so long and not making a more concerted effort to be around others of his own kind.
Tally checks herself over to be sure that none of the thorns glazed her cloths or exposed skin.
Yea, Unscratched!
