The streets were empty, the buildings were empty. This were Sacramento’s Barrens, and Alice was desperately hungry. Not a single brain cell would even think of drinking animal blood, even if she could. But she had seen a few homeless wandering around, so there was still hope. She waited in a dark alley for someone to pass by, it was not night yet, so not everyone should be asleep already. Her clothes were all style-Mekhet, perhaps they could help her stay hidden in the darkness. After only 30 minutes the first person walked along the alley where she was in. Happy that it hadn’t taken very long she sneaked to her prey. She was so close when her feet became wet. Splash in da puddle ‘Oh yuck!’ Why had it fucking rained? Surprised by her scream the man turned around. Now she ruined her shoes and her attempt to feed. 0-1 for Alice vs. Sacramento’s mortals.

‘What the hell? I’m not in the mood for a ho now, slut.’ He was completely wasted, and the old man turned again and continued his walk on the street. That left Alice standing there, just staring. She was so bad in feeding on the streets, and she didn’t want to follow this man anymore. The foul man had a beard, and damn, probably hair on his back. No way I want to put my fangs in that.

As the hunchback figure of the bum faded away Alice stood on the streets, with her right fingertips on her forehead. The think-hard stance. Fortunately, some creative solution was soon to be found. With a chuckle she put her wallet on the ground, at a dry place. She walked back to the alley and chuckled once more. It was pretty stupid actually, but who cared, if it worked. The funny part was soon over though, it was almost 12 o ‘clock, still nobody. Alice was happy her legs couldn’t be tired anymore.

Just when the daeva wanted to give up, she heard a hoarse voice. ‘Well be damned, is there still a god?’ It sounded just a bit less drunk, the good thing was that he looked better than the previous man. Alice walked out of the alley and saw the man snuffing in her wallet, looking for more than the money. Approaching him from the back, she grabbed his hair and pulled him backwards. Before he could say anything her fangs were in his neck. Alice became a bit dizzy because of the alchohol, yet the blood tasted fantastic as always.

She laughed out loud, feeling invincible as if she had just beaten three elders. She dropped the man to the ground and calmed down, she picked up her wallet and went back to her car. 1-1, time to settle down.
