Nic sat in the a sectioned off corner of the private party room sipping at his single malt bourbon cursing the smoking ban. He had arrived early to ensure they were seated in seclusion. Fifty dollars to a working college student hostess goes along way. The Rhode Island Fried Calamari with Three Dipping Sauces was set to come out when Jon arrived. Nic would of preferred the Ahi tuna, but Jon liked anything fired.
Jon was dirty politician but he was no fool. Maybe even a bit grotesque, but none the less adept in navigating the treacherous waters of city politics. He had carved himself a nice life based on this civil service.
"The thing I like about Jon is he knows he has a price and is not hung up on that." thought Nic.

Jon waddled into the restaurant and asked the hostess where his party was. She led him to Nic's private corner and he slapped her on the ass as she walked away.
"Nice little place they have here, eh Nic?" He settles his wide load onto one of the delicate chairs, making it creak as his weight bears fully on the furnature.
"Ah, so nice to see you again. Now I know this isn't just a social meeting, Nic. You always take me to lunch when you need something. So, what can I do for you today?"

“I need to be comfortable. Knowing what is going on and is soon to be going on helps me relax. You have skillfully placed yourself at a position of power over such needed information. I feel you are under paid for the civil service you provide us.”
Nic leans forward look into Jon’s eyes has Jon shovels calamari into his pie hole.
“Now you will compile on a CD all petitions to your office for land acquisition, corporate plans for moving in or out of the Sacramento, and request for zoning or building permits over the 2 million dollar range for the last six months. Included on this CD will be all legislation that is being pushed by special interest groups. You will mail this CD to PO Box 43367 Sacramento Ca 95825 from the mailbox in front of the Rite Aid at 1617 Douglas Blvd in Roseville by noon tomorrow. You will get this information yourself and not inform anyone about the CD. Here is an envelope to help you” Nic slides an 8x11 envelope fat with hundreds over to Jon.

Maybe you could look it over for me eh?"
He gives a smile, his flabby cheeks puffing out with the food stuffed in them.

"Hey I can do that for you. You see Jumbo Shrimp Brochette? Now that looks good, not as good as the hostess but I mean almost anything wrapped in bacon is good. So anyway I will look it over, but what sort of company is putting roots down here in Sacramento during these trying economic times?" Nic continues as he orders another bourbon.

"Some company that has the nerve to call itself New World Order. Can you believe that? How very unPC of them. Anyway, they moved in a few months ago. They bought a building on the corner of I and Pyramid." He shrugs and take a drink from his own Gin and Tonic.
After a noisey swallow, he smacls his lips and continues, digging back into his plate. "Anyway, they haven't done a whole lot since. At least, nothing I've heard about."

Nic continues the unimportant banter with Jon over lunch. But he could not get the New World Order out of his mind. What really bothered him was he never heard of them at all.
Finishing lunch he said his goodbyes to the rotund civil servant and headed back to the Clare.
