Asa drove home, pondering his meeting with his friends. His only true friends, god knows what Lioni was. He wasn't sure what he had expected when he went to see them, but he was happy that he did. Asa hadn't been happy in a long time. Not that he had been particularly unhappy, just not happy. He chuckled, slightly. Kindred had elevated the expression "haven't seen you in ages" to a reality.
He was looking forward to seeing Ishani again, and was glad that Karsh had made the suggestion. The man was downright devious. Or perhaps his amusement at the two of them had turned to boredom, and he'd decided enough was enough. Either way, he owed him.
What the hell does someone give Karsh as a gift?
Pulling into the Hotel Clare's private underground garage, Asa parked his car. Entering the building, he went to the elevator and accessed "his" floor. Putting his personal effects away, he pulled out his phone and sent a text message.

Nic heads down to the sub-basement. It was always excited apprehension meeting with Asa. He pressed his finger on the biometric reader in the wood paneled elevator. He had the two Dominican punches in his jacket and a bottle of vintage port in his left hand.
"Welcome Mr.Panagopoulos" scrolled up the touch screen.
Nic wondered what tonight's meeting with his benefactor would yield.
He entered the suite and flopped into an oversized leather lounger. Nic poured himself a glass of port. Asa did not often drink at these meetings. Nic clipped and ready both the cigars, and sat back sipping him port wine. He tapped his fingers on the chair arm uncharacteristically, but otherwise he looked relaxed and in control.

Asa came out, dressed more casually, having exchanged his suit slacks for some jeans. Sitting down also, he looked at Nic. He knew their relationship was far more relaxed than most Regnant and Ghouls, but Nic was a successful man in his own right and a capable assistant.
He lit his cigar, and took a seat also. "We're going to be busy. I've decided to become a bit more active, and take an interest in... family politics. Which means you'll be doing a bit more, and possibly be making yourself a target, if we're not smart and careful." Asa looked at Nic. He knew the man wasn't a coward, he just didn't want him to be careless.
"The first thing I'd like you to do is to make sure the club Asylum is free of trouble. No legal or civic issues. I also want to know if there have been any dramatic shifts in the city recently... financial or political. Have any large corporations moved in? Any land-grabbing going on? New, powerful political activists? That sort of thing." Asa looked at Nic, "That's the part where smart and careful are important."

Nic leans forward listening to Asa ,and lights his punch. After a long drag he says "I always have my eye on who is moving into my territory, but I will make some calls and shake some bushes just to be sure.
The Club sir won't have issue one. Between myself and the teamsters we are golden there. I don't even think the parking meters within three blocks of the club have been checked in year.
As for more attention, I don't need to say anymore, because you know I can handle my own. And I know you can handle your kind. And sometimes a little heat makes for some good memories. Thank you for the warning consider me prepared."

Nic sips at his port. Most of what Asa said was standard as business goes. What worried Nic was guarding against one of Asa's rivals. He knew he was weak in that regards. Never worry about what you can control, nor what you can't control Nic's father had told him on countless occasions.
"Is a cigar all you fancy tonight sir?" queried Nic.

Asa shakes his head. "Nic. Please, listen. I can tell you think this is a routine request. It's not. There might be a... significant power shift on the horizon. It's imperative we do everything we can to learn more. The consequences of not smelling the smoke before this possible fire would be... not inconsequential."
Slightly irritated, Asa puts his cigar out in the glass of port Nic has poured for him. He isn't sure if he's overreacting, or if his meeting with Ishani has put his emotions in turmoil. The possibility that the Prince may have an uncertain future cannot be ignored. Feeling his Beast stirring at his irritation, Asa stands, and leaves the room.

Nic watches as he leaves. Then he picks up the bottle of port and slumps back into his lounger with it and his cigar.
He may be mad, but its better that than to seem to concerned and show my belly. The results are all that matter.
He picked up his cell phone.
"I know its fucking late that should equate how important this call is in your little head. I want to have lunch with the city planner tomorrow. I don't care who I was having lunch with. I am telling you who I am having it with now."
Slams the phone down.
"The people I pay to think know it, like I want to hear what every fucking peon thinks...Fuck me!"
Grabbing the phone again.
"Douglas I want to double up on security... wait not jackholes in monkey suits. I want eyes. Someone that can spot a troublemaker five miles away.... yeah on the night shift. Thanks Doug"
The lounger proved to be an excellent place to drink himself asleep.
