 Discussing The Demon (ATTN: Marius)

Shadow sat in the little quiet library she'd chosen for the meeting place. She had sent Marius a note asking him to join her when he had the chance. She'd picked this particular library because it was not used very often by the other Dragons and it had the most information on Demons.
She sat at one of the small tables flipping through a folder of her notes. She had taken the time to write down all the information she'd gathered from her experience with the demon at the warehouse and from what Meridin had told them during her interrogation. She hoped it would be enough to satify Marius' curiosity. If not, she did not think she could help him further.

Marius had received Shadows note and was delighted. He hadn't thought she'd get in touch with him so soon.
He came to the library casually dressed, wearing Diesel blue-jeans and a black chemise. His hair looked a bit like he had showered an hour ago and they hadn't quite dried yet.
He immediately noticed Shadow, her presence drawing him in, like a moth to a flame. With a warm smile he approached her.
"Good evening, lady Shadow."
He still did not know her real name. He usually prided himself in knowing these kind of details. Though he had found out that now-a-days it could even be inappropriate to address someone with their real name..

"Good evening Mars, I am pleased to see you could make it." She said as she closed the file and stood. She motioned to a chair next to her. "Please, have a seat."
After he had seated himself and gotten comfortable, she returned to her own seat and smiled.
"I have here a file of everything I know about the situation with the demon. I do need to make you aware of the dire consequences this information could cause. I understand your want of the knowledge, but I must be assured that you do not intend to use it for anything against the Dragons. I know this is most likely not the case, but we both could land in some very deep trouble for even having this discussion."

His expression turned serious when he sat down.
"I understand completely, and I would be as cautious as you are right now, were our rolls reversed." he paused to let his compliance sink in, then continued.
"I give you my word as a Dragon and an Immortal, that I will not use this knowledge against the Dragons, and will keep it to myself in utmost confidentiality."

Shadow smiled. "Excellent." She handed him the folder. "Then I can give you this without fear. I must say, it isn't much, but some of it may be useful. I know there were some speculations in these books," she waved her arm to emcompass the library, "about how to control demons and if certain techniques actually worked. We did find out for sure that there is a very effective tactic. We also learned some things do not work at all."
She shrugged and leaned back in her chair. " I hope the information will be useful to you and please keep the folder in a safe place."
She looked at him for a moment, studying him. "So tell me, where do your ambitions lie as a Dragon?"

He put the folder into his business hand-case, closed and locked it.
"I usually don't get this personal with someone whose real name I don't even know, but as you've made a leap of faith by giving me these documents, I will return it just the same." His face which had been as rigid as a statues a moment before, came to life with a warm and endearing smile.
"My quest has not always been fully congruent with the Dragons goals, I admit." His smile widened ever so slightly, gaining a mischievous quality for only a moment before he continued.
"I have been searching for the source, our source, the source. I believe that by truly understanding what we are, and where we came from, I will be able to transcend our current state much more efficiently and quicker than how we are doing right now. My friend and mentor through many life-times, the head of the Dragons in Paris, has always supported my enterprise. Where others have doubted me, told me how this research will get me nowhere, and I should use the time and resources allocated to me, into more productive ventures, he stayed confident and steadfast. The turning point for at least a few of the Dragons came, when I discovered and attained my first, and currently only, coil. This is another story, which would take a lot longer to tell. Perhaps someday..." His eyes glazed over for a moment, as if remembering a very distant past, his face becoming as hard as marble. When the moment passed his smile returned, his form animated again as if it had always been this way.
"I can tell you, that the way in which I attained this coil was unprecedented. Unfortunately this happened a very long time ago, and has not happened since. I believe I know the reason for this, but over the years many disciples lost their faith in me. I do not judge them, for even I have doubted my theory in the past, but each time I was brought back on track, by fate, if you believe in such a thing."
He looked at her soft features, still baffled by her presence, and studied her reaction to what he had just revealed to her.

Shadow gave a genuine smile and listened to him speak. Her facial expressions did show surprise at the mention of him only knowing one coil, but she did not show any hint of distaste or disbelief in his theories of transcendence.
"My real name........that is a topic I am not allowed to discuss. My apologies for that. You see, Mr. Delven, I was given to an Oracle as a gift, a slave. Not someone who does not know any coils, a slave in the oldest sense of the word. When I was gifted to the man, he informed me that my name meant nothing and I was to be known only as Shadow, for I am now but a shadow of my former self. I have heeded the order since that day. As far as I or anyone else is concerned, Shadow is my name."
She shrugged, as if it was no real matter to her and moved on. "I think your theory may have merit. I am one who believes that all Dragons will find the end of their journey in their own way. It is not for me to judge or tell any of them how wrong they are. My hope is that one day someone will find the answer and whatever technique they use to find it is of little consequence. They have succeeded, that is the only hting that should matter."
"Have you ever considered becoming a Sworn? Do you wish to learn more Coils? And, my last intrusive inquiry," this statement was made with a smile, "what can this Chapter of the Ordo Dracul offer you to further your research?"

He listened attentively to Shadows explanation of her names origins, and even though his curiosity was once again peaked by this attractive woman, he refrained from asking questions. There was clear and genuine sadness in his expression - as she talked of her enslavement - until she shrugged it off and changed the subject back.
"I have considered becoming a Sworn, but I will continue being honest with you: I considered it for the soul purpose of gaining more influence and thus increase my resources. I found this to be counterproductive, as a Sworn not only has more duties to preform, but is also Oath bound to the Dragons for eternity, for I have not heard of a Sworn immortal who has retracted this vow."
His voice became quieter and his expression darker as he continued.
"I will never be bound by anyone or anything." There was poison in his words, his presence momentarily shifting from comfort and attraction, to malice and resolve. The moment passed within a heart beat, the darkness drained as quickly as it had appeared, his warm smile returning.
"As for your other questions: I do wish to learn more Coils, and I would love to hear about the success and means with which this cities Dragons have done so. Have you found any Wyrm's Nests within or near this city?"

Shadow nodded, knowing what he was referring to. "That is understandable. Which coils were you interested in? I am sure I can find a suitable teacher for whichever one you were looking for."

"As I've mentioned, the way I've been studying the Coils has been somewhat... different. I do not seek a mentor, but would appreciate the opportunity to talk to anyone willing to share their experience and knowledge with me. Of course, so would I in exchange. What has helped me greatly in the past, is the use of a Nexus or 'Wyrms Nest' as they are called. If you have not yet found one in this fair city, I would consider it my priority to do so."
((absolutely no problem! I myself am swamped with studying, finding presents, organizing dinners, etc.))

Shadow nodded and took a moment to think before responding.
"As far as I know, the only Wyrm's Nest we have that would be of use in that area is being guarded by Ezekiel. You might wish to speak with him about the location of it. I have not had the opportunity to seek any other wyrm's nests in the city as I have only been here a short time and things have been rather hectic. I'm sure you know what I mean. But I don't think there would be any reason for Ezekie to be uncooperative. I would definitly speak with him."l

Marius' eyes lit up, when he heard that there was indeed an already located Wyrm's Nest within the city. He had learned all he could from the few in Paris and had made a small mess of things with the local Werewolves in the process. He had sworn to be more careful in the future...
"Excellent. What can you tell me about Ezekiel? How might I contact him?"

Shadow smiled, her eyes unfocusing as she thought of her former companion for so many years.
"Ezekiel is.........a unique individual. I can promise that you will not meet another kindred like him on the west coast. He is patient and polite but almost single-minded in his dedication to the Great Work. I am sure he would be more then happy to assist you, especially if your areas of interest coincide."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a notepad. She scribbled a number on it and handed it to Marius. "This is his cell phone number. If he does not answer, just leave a message. He will get back to you as soon as he can."

He slid the paper into his pocket, smiling at Shadow.
"You have been so very generous and helpful to me. Please allow me to invite you for dinner and a 'drink' as a small token of my gratitude." He put just a little more emphasis on the word drink, making it clear what he meant.

Shadow laughed. "That sounds wonderful. I just have a few things I need to finish here first, and I am sure you want to contact Ezekiel as soon as you can."
She stood and offered her hand. "So, I will bid you farewell for now and when I have all of my duties attended to, I will contact you."

"I look forward to it." Marius got up and accepted her hand, giving it a soft squeeze and locking eyes with her.
"Thank you again, Mrs. Shadow." He said with a sincere smile.
He picked up the suitcase with the documents and left the library.
