Bark Park Reply with quote
This had been a strange, stressful week. She and Zero needed to blow off a little steam.

Antoinette asked Mr. Tanner to take them to Bark Park at Bannon Creek. Zero knew the smells immediately and went bonkers. Antoinette couldn’t help but smile and climbed out behind him. At 2am, they had the place to themselves. Zero leapt around like a gazelle, chasing and pouncing on each ball she threw for him, causing her to crack up incessantly. But each time he got the ball, he came back and asked her if it pleased her. If he’d done it right. If he could do it better. It actually made her suspicious in a way as her mind slowly started making the comparisons between her and Zero and her and Quinton.

No. Her relationship with Quinton was certainly different. She was his childe. And in his care only for now. When she had learned her lessons and proven herself she would be released, certainly.

While she was pondering this, a man came near with his dog. At this hour? She was immediately ready to take some sort of action, whether it be defense, attack or feed. Getting herself back under control, she attempted a smile and sat down on top of a park bench she’d been standing next to.

“Hey there.” The young man called out to her, raising his hand in a quick greeting. His dog, a French Bulldog, had already met Zero. Antoinette couldn’t help but laugh at their conversation; the petite bulldog berating Zero for his leanness, telling him he ought to eat something already. And then she realized she hadn’t responded and quickly looked back up. “Hi. Kind of late for the park, isn’t it?”

“I could say the same of you.”

The man seemed about her age, average height and weight, a little casual, perhaps a college student. “Zero here is an insomniac. When he tells me he can’t sleep, we’re either coming here, or the gym. He just whines so much about reaching the pedals on the Stairmaster…”

The man laughed. “I suppose that limo over there is Zero’s too, huh? I’m Tony, by the way. You are…?”

Antoinette hesitated. Was this allowed? First names? Crap. “Oh, people usually just call me ‘Toni’ too.” She smiled a big smile.

Tony looked at her oddly, as if he really didn’t believe her. “Huh. OK “Toni”. Where do you go to school?”

This was going potentially bad, fast. Plus, she was suddenly famishing. Not that she didn’t always seem to be hungry. When ‘was’ the last time she ate? “I dropped out. It’s a long story. But you know Tony; it’s much too pretty of a night to worry about failed classes and college drop-outs. If you don’t mind, I’d like to get to know you in a different way.” She patted the empty space on the picnic table next to her.

Sure, she implanted the suggestion with a little magic, like Quinton had taught her. But the idea was already revving to go in his mind as far she could tell. He came and sat down, and it wasn’t long before they were all over each other. Kissing and biting, hands here and there. At one point Zero even barked at her, asking if she were OK, and she breathlessly responded, “Yes, fine”. Tony said “Fine, what?” But she smothered his questions away with more kisses.

When she could stand it no longer, she bared he fangs and sunk deep down into his luscious flesh, hitting an artery that brought his precious, hot blood gushing into her mouth, overwhelming her senses until she thought she’d lose control. Tony cried out, gripped her tight, tighter, sharing the moment with her though he had no idea what he was sharing. But his grip loosened soon after as she continued to drink greedily, not being able to help herself. Eventually, she regained her senses and realized he wasn’t holding her at all.

“SHIT!”

Zero and the French Bulldog began to whine. “Be quiet, please! He’s OK… He’s fine! I’ll make sure he’s fine.” The bulldog whined a little more, and Antoinette leaned down to look at his tag. “Louis’, give me a minute here, OK? I’ll figure this out.” She slapped Tony, hard, on the sides of his face, and shook him, but there was absolutely no response. “Come on Tony – wake up, Big Boy!”. No response. Out cold. She felt for a pulse. Weak, but there. She ‘knew’ what big trouble she’d be in if she drained a Kine and just left him here. Such a Gangrel move. Plus, Tony didn’t deserve this, poor guy. She needed to make sure she at least didn’t leave him as coyote food.

So, what were the options here? She could call Baron Quinton… as tempted as she was to pray he’d come bail her out and save the day, she wasn’t going to do it. No way. She’d figure this thing out on her own if it killed her. Or, if she had to kill Tony and dump the body somewhere…

That just wasn’t going to be necessary – She just needed him to come to. But she couldn’t wait around in the bark park. Not with dawn approaching so quickly. And not with the possibility of other people coming by and seeing her with an unconscious body. She could not take him home. Could she? Her haven was sacred – Quinton had made that fact crystal clear. Tilden and her friends were one thing, but some guy she just fed off? She couldn’t drop him off at the hospital. What if they got her vehicle description or plate number? Well, ‘Quinton’s’ plate number. She shivered and felt sick. And of course, the limo wasn’t ostentatious or memorable or anything. Thanks Quinton.

Then it came to her. Much like when Quinton had drained her nearly to death to make her, he’d then given her his vitae to revive her. By giving Tony a little of her vitae, perhaps she could revive him. Just a little. What harm could that do, right? She knew it wouldn’t make him into a Kindred. It hadn’t made Zero a vampire-dog, after all, and he drank three times!

She tore her skin open at her wrist with her teeth, and willed a little bit of blood to drip down, making it’s way to Tony’s lips. At its arrival he swallowed, blinked and looked back at her with a big, goofy, weak smile.

“Wow, girl. What did you do to me?”

“What did you do to me? I think I’ll require a marriage proposal before we do “that” again.” She smiled back at him and kissed his lips to seal her gift. “Tony, I have to go, I’m very late to get back to my house. Will you be OK?”

“Sure.” He seemed disoriented, but at least conscious. “I’m just fine. Hey, when can I see you again.”

“I don’t know Tony…” She scooped up Zero and was hurrying off to the Limo.

“Toni!” He was yelling now. “At least give me your number!”

She laughed and shook her head. As she was climbing in the car and the engine was starting, she yelled back “Check your phone.” She really must be crazy.
