Captain and his crew made their way up the river on their riverboat. Not a few of his crew didn't like planes, and so they took their time enjoying the beauty of the river. Eventually, they made it to the marina, and hoisted their bags.
Captain looked at the address, and compared it with the map in his hand, and set off at a brisk pace. Ensign, Commander, and Leftenant fell in behind him, all walking in perfect unison. Eyes kept forward, chest out, chins back, all in crisp navy dress. They were a sight to see.
Eventually they made it to what was satisfying as the free council's GHQ.

A lady with tightly wound dreadlocks answers the door. Mildly attractive, she looks at you up and down.
"You must be the Captain. Calligan has been expecting you. Come on in."
She shows you to a small library room with a couple of chairs and a couch. "Let me go get Calligan"
Calligan comes out quickly, not wasting any time.
"Ah Captain. It is good to meet you." He extends his hand out for a shake. "And not a moment to soon really. They seem to be pulling a lot of us out of the city due to the imminent threats."
He then proceeds to give you a brief rundown on Peter Cartright's murder, and why thats significant. "Basically, the Arrows are calling the shots right now. They are doing a good job not stepping on anyone's toes right now, but we have to be able to show the Consillium that the other Orders can function independently. "

All of the Crew stood at attention during the briefing. Captain did shake his hand.
"Thank you sir. A few questions before we get started. One, are there any other libertines? Two, has any progress been made on discovering what caused the mass loss and more importantly, forgetting, of the mages of Sacramento? Three, what sort of support should we be expecting? Four, How are things with the other orders, specifically the Mysterium and Guardians? Five, what is the makeup of the concillium? Finally, any report of Seer activity?"

"Lets see if I can remember all the questions. On the first, yes, but they are few and far between, and more than likely leaving the city at this point, especially since the Mysterium bean counters have said it may happen again. Two, the Mysterium has been working on it, and they are looking into some old texts that say it's some sort of abyssal intrusion that happens in a rhythm until it is stopped. Three, None, at least not from the free council anyway. We are still here as a presence, but most are leaving. Don't get me started. Four, the Mysterium is pulling in its best, pulling out it masses. No one really knows whats happening with the guardians, but what else is new. Finally, no reports of Seer activities, but we believe the Banisher movement managed to kill Cartright. No hard proof yet, but the Mysterium, and the Free Council is really trying. Any thing else?"

"Well, as it happens, the Mysterium may have some use for us. Apparently they think they may have stumbled on some ancient ruins, but they haven't found them yet. Doesn't make much sense to me either.
They aren't to fond of the Arrows in town, and no one trusts Vex or Niles enough to let them in on anything. That leaves us, as the Ladder is in a bit of a shock.
Starling has asked for some magical assistance and possibly physical backup, as well as some muscle for moving and doing excavation work near Carson City. I would ask you if you are interested, but this request kind of works like a military request, so rather than give you the illusion of choice... So how long do you need to get ready?"
