Gregory looked at the small apartment he had found. It was non-assuming and was in a decent neighborhood. He hoped it would keep Alice and him safe.
He heard a rather exasperated voice behind him
"Would you please move your butt and help me move in?"
He smiled a little to himself.
"Sure Alice"
It took them the rest of the day but soon they were settled in Gregory figured he should get the lay of the city and find a job.
He got onto his motorcycle and drove into town. It wasn't like he didn't have any qualifications. Several high ranking corporations had loved the work he had done for them but personal bodyguard or assassin isn't something usually advertised for.
He would drive around look for something interesting.

~~NARRATION~~
As Gregory is driving through a semi-residential area, he passes an alley and thinks he catches something out of the corner of his eye. Stopping suddenly, he puts the car in reverse and backs up about 10 feet.
Sure enough, he squints to see down the dark alley and catches a tall figure pulling on a much smaller figures arm. Faintly, he hears a girl's voice yelling:
"No, leave me alone. Get away from me!"

Gregory was almost happy that he could inflict violence to someone.
Pulling his side arm he approaches the alley trying to see what was happening with revealing his position.

The man sees Gregory coming down the alley toward his catch. He pulls out a large knife and, still holding on to the child, begins to advance.
"There ain't nothin' to see here, boy. Best run on home now." The man says in a gruff, southern darwl.

Gregory shakes his head.
Was he really supposed to be scared of a knife wielded by some thug in an alley. He raises the 9mm. It was a solid weapon and one he had carried for years.

He let go of the girl and rushed Gregory.

He does not make any attempt to get back up and looks to be unconscious.
The girl has run over to Gregory and is hiding behind him, crying.
"Can you take me home? Please, please take me home!" She whimpers as she cries.

She nodded, still crying. "Uh huh, I live right over there in that apartment building. I was alseep in my room and that man crawled in my window and took me out of my bed. I cried and screamed but no one heard me. When he took me here I kicked him really hard in the knee and he dropped me on the ground. I tried to get away, but he grabbed me again. Thank you so much for getting me away from him."
She smiled up at Gregory, her eyes shinning with her tears.
The apartment building she points to is at the end of the block.

The parents of the girl tell you they had no idea she was taken from her room. They did not hear anything at all. And it isn't really possible for her to have been removed through her window because they live on the 8th floor of the building.
They do thank you profusely, and ask if there is anything they can do for you.

Gregory walks back to his bike. He was now perplexed as to why someone would want to kidnap this girl. Family obviously didn't have too much money. Kid didn't seem all that important and hell the guy coming after her took a solid shot from him and managed to move afterward.
It was getting late and he should be heading home... but that wouldn't put his mind at ease.
