Marius got up out of the chair and started pacing the beautifully furnished room, unsure of why he felt so uneasy; perhaps it was the combined auras of something resembling the grim reaper and ice personified...
"I wish to be honest, and straight forward with you." He moved along the book shelves letting his hand glide across their leather bound covers. There was a moment of uncertainty in his manner, but then he continued.
"I came to this city in hope of furthering my studies on the great work, but also to deepen my understanding of history and what secrets it holds pertaining our existence. I believe that by finding the truth about why we are what we are, and how we came to be, I will be able to transcend our current form." Again he paused, his finger resting on a book on ancient Rome and Egypt.
"For you see," his voice was softer now, more distant, and quieter, "I have a special connection to our past." He turned around to face the two Dragons again.
"As you both know, I've only unlocked the first tier of the Coil of the Soul, even though I've been with the Ordo Dracul for over a hundred years, and I unlocked it by means of which not even I can truly understand." He stopped pacing now, looking straight at the pair of immortals and goose bumps spread across his skin. There was a symmetry between the two he had failed to notice before: one was an Angel, the other a Devil.
He swallowed dry, and continued, letting his gaze wander across the library again.
"I was traveling through Egypt, when it happened, using a meditative technique I had been taught by my friend and Mentor in Paris. He said it would allow me to relive my fragmented past, and perhaps find clues as to how I came to be. And re-live it I did. What I learned not only changed my perception of what we are, but also allowed me to unlock my first Coil."
He wasn't quite sure why he confided in these two, but it was too late now. Perhaps they would laugh it off, as so many others had in the past.
"In my memories I found that I did not, and could not, have had a sire. For you see, I was beheaded as a mortal."
When he said the last sentence he stopped pacing, and simply looked at the books in front of him. His voice became almost a whisper when he continued.
"Had I not met another immortal without a sire, I would have believed myself mad from the sleep we call torpor nowadays."
He turned his head to the two dragons, waiting to see their reactions before he would continue, his eyes glimmering in the faint light. Usually he was laughed at, and that was the end of it, but perhaps this city had a few more surprises in stock for him.

Shadow sighed and shifted uncomfortably in her chair. She did not like to tell people they were wrong. It always led to bad things, strong emotions, and usually someone storming out of the room and slamming doors. However, she could not allow this Kindred to go around believing that he had met his end in such a manner.
"Mars, I am sure you have noticed I have Keeper of the Blood tacked onto my name along with my other titles, yes? This title means I have done extensive research on just about every different form of blood there is. I can assure you that it is not possible for you to have died in such a manner. You see, you are not Mekhet, and only they can bring back the dead in such a way. Sort of. The Daeva do have a type of blood that will allow a sire to bring his prospect back from true death, but that is only in the case of suicide. And, as you had not commited such an act in your motal life, I doubt you could possibly be of this blood. I would have to surmise that someone has gone into your mind and created these memories to confuse you. You must break past them in order to learn the truth."

Marius was surprised at how formal and knowledgeable Shadow was. He had expected sarcasm, but he respected someones opinion, especially if they were this well informed.
"Interesting, so the Mekhet can do such a thing." he had never heard this before now, but then they were stealthy beings...
But this did not matter to him now. He was considered Daeva and not Mekhet, but then how could he not have had a sire? But his memories weren't lying!
"What about the Covenants founding father? Are there not plenty of legends spun around his supposed lack of a sire? How can you be so sure?" he felt himself being pulled into his irrationality, and he struggled to compose himself.

He stopped, took a soft breath, and manged to get a hold of himself.
"You are right of course, there is no proof of this, save for my memories... Perhaps here in Sacramento, in the new World I can finally find some answers." He gave a sigh, a hint of sadness rushing across his face. Then he looked deep into Shadows eyes and smiled his charming smile again.
"Shadow, will you help me? Maybe together, and with your considerable knowledge on the blood, I might be able to overcome this fog of the ages." His words rung true and sincere; he had a lot of respect for this fair and beautiful immortal.
