 Loitering at the Hospital

   |

Felix stepped through the sliding doors at the outpatient clinic; he'd come here after another one of his visions. Someone was in danger, and his case load was a bit light this month...
So here he was, standing there still hungover, shielding his eyes from the light as he tried to think up an illness to feign for the needed Doctor's visit.

Rayanna sighed. She was bored. She understood the value of getting experience in everywhere in the hospital, but the outpatient clinic was so dull. She would much rather be in the fast paced ER or in the maternity ward. The doors slid open as a man who looked hungover walked in.
Ooo, a patient. Maybe he'll need an emergency, rare surgery and I'll get to scrub in.
Rayanna got up from the nurses station and approached him with a warm smile, "Hello, sir. Is this your first time here at the clinic?" She asked as she guided him to the desk.

Felix was taken aback at the woman who approached him, his hand falling a little before he let out a slight groan at the light hitting his eyes.
He rubs his forehead as he's led to the desk, and then his fingers find his temples. "Yes...I'm not really one to get sick, but these headaches of late are...killer."

Poor guy, Rayanna thought. When she spoke next, she lowered her voice in volume and pitch so her voice wouldn't bother his head much.
"Yeah, migraines aren't much fun. I get them myself time to time. Sir, what's your name?" She picked up the sign in sheet and a pen, "is there a certain doctor you'd prefer to see?"
(forgot to add: Rayanna speaks with a strong Louisiana accent.)

Felix takes another look at the woman, still shielding his eyes from the light.
"I don't really know the doctors here...." and pauses momentarily, before speaking up again, "Name is Felix Felice." (pronounced Fel-ee-che)
He rubs his temples again, and looks down at the sheet. "Say, do I know you from somewhere?"

Rayanna nodded as she wrote his name and time he came in on the sign-in sheet. She looked up at him, studying his face, "No, I don't believe we've ever met," she smiled, "but I do work at the Ballo Della Notte. Perhaps you've seen me there? Or around town?"
"Ok, Mr. Felice, let's get you to a bed where you can lie down," she walked him to one of the curtained off beds and helped get him onto it. She sat down in a chair next to him and asked about allergies, medications, and other pertinentmedical information.
"And the last question, I promise. Do you have medical insurance? I'll need your card and your drivers license to make copies of."

Felix laid down quietly, still rubbing his head slightly as he just watched the woman.
"Oh? I've been there a few times...I suppose I could have seen you there."
He answered her questions to the best of his ability, and then laid back against the pillow, digging out his wallet to hand over the card and his ID.
"Say...has anything strange happened to you of late?"

Rayanna looked at him curiously. Her mind flashed back to Jenni and that strange man.....that would certainly fit most peoples definition of "strange". She accepted the cards from him and focused intently on him. Rayanna looked around to make sure there was no one else in here. The other nurses and doctors were at the other end of the clinic and there were no other patients over here.
"What do you mean by strange, exactly? And why do you ask?"

Felix cringes a bit at the light again, then pushes his messy hair out of his face. He pulls himself up to a sitting position, and then speaks quietly, again.
"Listen, hopefully this doesn't upset you, but the reason I ask..I've seen you before. I can't really explain how, not here, but you're in danger."
He groans and then rubs his forehead, "The headache is real though..."

Rayanna closed the curtain off and leaned forward. She lowered her voice to a near whisper.
"I know I'm in danger. I even know who is after me-I've met them. They made me an offer and I refused." Rayanna looked at him shrewdly, "are normal painkillers going to make this headache go away? I can treat you here and then we can go back to my apartment and talk there. We should be safe there."

He nods ever so slightly, and then makes an exaggerated gesture.
"As long as they're strong enough...it's really just a nasty hangover," he muses, "I wonder if you can prescribe more vodka..."
He manages a weak grin and slides his legs off the side of the bed, waiting.

Rayanna smiled, then shook her head, "Well, I can't prescribe, but I do have some. And I have something that should actually help a lot more-vitamin B12. C'mon."
Rayanna helped Felix stand up. She handed him his cards back and guided him to a chair. She went to the head nurse and told her her shift was over for the day. She explained that Felix had nothing more than a nasty hangover and was going to walk him back to his car and then she was heading home. Grabbing her things, she waved goodbye, got Felix and left.
"Ok, did you happen to drive here? Or are we taking my car?"

He steps out into the sun, and shields his eyes again. He points out to the parking lot, towards an old gremlin that looked to be barely breathing.

Felix just shakes his head and starts towards his car.
"It just looks like a piece of crap...runs just fine. Most of the time. I'd replace it if I could, though."
He pulls a pair of sunglasses out of his jacket, and slides them over his face.

Rayanna looked at the car, then at Felix with a skeptical look on her face. Shrugging, she nodded.
"Ok, then why don't we just go in my car? Less risk of someone seeing your car and putting you in danger," Rayanna led the way to her car, a little red Honda Civic-a stick shift. She unlocked the doors and slid in. She waited for Felix to get in, then drove home.

Felix slid into the car, fingering his own keys in his jacket pocket. He rubbed his head again, then pulled down the sun visor. Must be a killer hangover, really.
"So, I guess you're wondering how I knew about you? Or maybe not, if you already know you're in danger..."
