 Trouble in Sacramento? A Novel Idea

The release of him most recent book had given him some time to relax. A first edition copy of Beyond Our Understanding sat in the passenger seat of the BMW. The Guardians loathed him for half of the stuff that managed to see print. He always left just enough out to keep them off his back though.
His last project had him helping a group of Arrows in San Diego, now he was being asked to have a look around Sacramento. He had the time he might as well. They had just sent another group in perhaps he could track them down and review what they'd uncovered thus far.
He reached up and pushed a voice button on the mounted cell phone.
Call Jessica..
The phone beeped and it rang twice before a soft female voice answered the phone.
Good Afternoon Mister Wilds.... How can I help you?
He purred hearing her voice.
Sadly you cant do what I need over the phone while I'm driving. However if you've managed to aquire me some lodgings while I'm in Sacramento I can see about changing that.
I have had a small apartment with a hallow secured for you. It is not much on short notice but I have also taken the liberty of having part of your library shipped up already and had a security system and re-enforced windows installed in it as well.
Outstanding my dear... One step ahead as always. Thats why I hired you.
Really? I thought it was because you liked my ass....
He smirked and laughed lightly as he shifted the car into a higher gear and moved around another vehicle.
You have many fine qualities ... your assests are just a fraction..
Of course ...sir...
There was an obvious playfulness in her voice.
I'm coming up on the exit here now, forward the address to my GPS and when I get situated in I will call you back.
Alright, After I have finalize the paperwork with the release you just had I will be headed down that way for any other services you require.
I await with eager anticipation...
He pushed the button again to end the call. A few moments later the GPS in the car, beeped the new directions of the apartment and he turned onto the exit.

As Stone rolls through the burbs of Sacramento, he starts to see a haze settling over his second sight. It is subtle at first, just on the outskirts of his vision, but it slowly becomes more prominent. When he can finally feel the skyscrapers around him, he almost feels sick. There is a scent in the air that can only be described as pain. But it is not physical pain, it is spiritual pain.

Curious... Apparently my choice in coming here was a good thing.
After making his way to the apartment and unloading he finds the ticket to the comedy club with a note from Jessica.
~Thought you might enjoy this. Something to keep you occupied until I can get there. ~
He smiled to himself and pocketed the ticket. After unpacking he noted the time and decided to drive around the city some before heading to the club.
