Joe parked his beat up mostly blue civic in the back of the police lot as he adjusted his tie. "Just one day at a time." He said to himself in the mirror, as he grabbed his overcoat.

As he walked past narcotics, he saw Vanessa seething. He stopped a moment, was about to say hi, and then her partner showed up. The menace in the room became a little too uncomfortable for Joe he headed on to Homicide. The screaming that followed him down the hall proved him correct.
He walked into homicide expecting the worst. He never, ever ever expected the worst to be this bad.
"Hi Joe!" Sam Atkins, apparently brilliant detective said. In Joe's opinion the man's work had to be at least half guesses, judging by the amount of paperwork that disappeared in that man's hands. Speaking of, his inbox was empty, and by the looks of things, between Sam and Nevin Thompson, he didn't have any cases to look into, which was in and of itself a feet of effort by the two junior "detectives". And the two gentlemen had cleaned his desk. Again. Of all of his rather important paperwork and notes. Joe took a deep breath, in and then out, and repeated until Nevin stopped being stabbed in a thousand painful places by Joe's mind. "I'll be getting some more work." he said to the two as he rushed off to see Carson, hoping for some work to actually get done in this crazy department. He didn't bother knocking, and just opened the door.
"I need a case. Nevin and Sam took all of mine" He said deadpan, with his best look of utter rage

Venessa burst in the door and, without a glance to Joe, she started to talk, or tell kind of.
"That's it, I want a recommendation to come to homicide. That idiot they have me partnered with lost the entire interview we had with Ms. Quintain!"
She gestured through the open door to indicate her partner standing about fifteen feet away. Her thick spanish accent even more noticable by her obvious irritation.
"Now, I have nothing to work with and I will probably have to bring her back in and get another statement. I am so sick of working with these morons!"
She looked at Joe and flashed him a quick smile. "Hey Joe, sorry about the BF." She looked back at Carson. "So, how about it, sir?"

With a huge smile, Venessa looked from Carson to Joe.
"Great, I'll get my coat." And she marched right back out of the room to her desk. Grabbing her coat and purse she flipped off Martin Renolds, her partner, as she walked past.

Joe quickly jots down on Carson's wall calendar one month from today "Last day for free carwash". He then picks up his coat, glances at the cofeemaker before decided to just go dry.
He picks vanessa up as they take car 3 to the scenes.
"So tell me more about these suicides. I haven't been reading the paper much since all the murders started. Messes with my head when its outside of work.
On the radio

"What was that just know on the radio?"

Venessa shrugged. "Something about some Fang family. I've never heard of them, so I have no clue what this idiot is babbling about. Although, I do agree with him about the Mayor. The guy is a corrupt bastard and thats why we probably have so many issues at the presinct. They're all as corrupt as the Mayor."
She looked out the window for a little while, then sighed.
"Suicides, yeah. So, here's what you should know. There have been three. One guy threw himself and his car in front of a semi and got tottled. The second one decided to put a knife through her throat at the flea market in front of everyone there. The third hung himself nice a quietly at home, until his fiance found him. She was pretty messed up about it. Kept screaming at the cops that he "never would have killed himself, they'd just gotten engaged." Again, she shrugged as if this was nothing new to her. "I know a lot of guys who get engaged and then take their own lives. Had a boyfriend in high school to the same thing."

"That must have been rough. I see that you seemed to have picked yourself out of it quite well. It is odd about the Fang family; my girlfriend is a Fang. Good Hmong people, I can't see them getting involved with the mayor. I'm glad I don't pay attention to politics. Then I don't have to worry about working for a guy who I voted against or whatnot. It makes things simpler, especially with...right, let me start again."
*he coughs*
"Welcome to Homicide! Its a ride and a half. You've got now 5 people working the bureau. In order of competence you've got Nevin Thompson, Sam Atkins, then Carson and myself come to about even, depening on the day, and I don't know where to put you yet. Also, don't leave anything on your desk. I don't know whats wrong with these two, but its not drugs, and they seem to be intentionally messing up homicide cases." He says this last bit with a sigh of resignation.
