It was a long trip, from Baltimore to Sacramento. Plenty of time to mull over the mistakes he had made. Mistakes that had almost gotten them all killed. That his companions didn't even know half of the story was the only thing that made it bearable. He massaged his temples, trying to relax, but seeing his hands always brought the memory of the blood on them. Her blood.
He tried focusing on other things. Sacramento. A mystery. His information was sketchy, and the thought of going in nearly blind didn't help his mood. He glanced at his companions, and could tell they were ready for the change of scenery.
He doubted they would ever be ready for the truth.
