 History of Sacramento's Lost

About 300 years ago, a large group of Changelings escaped Arcadia through a trod into Sacramento. They elected Kings and Queens and established a seasonal court system. Although there were minor skirmishes between the courts, overall the freehold was very peaceful for two hundred years.
A hundred years ago, the Autumn King did not want to give up the throne to the Winter Queen. The Autumn King believed that he was the stronger and that the freehold would crumble under the Winter Queen. The two courts had skirmishes and each gathered support. After a few months of this, a full out war erupted. The defenses and security put in place centuries ago fell one by one.
A lull on the battlefield came, both sides regrouping and preparing for what would hopefully be the final, decisive battle. Suddenly, trods started opening up and down the field. The Gentry had chosen that moment to enter the fray. Hedge Beasts, hobgoblins, loyalists and Gentry swarmed onto the field.
The two armies fought the Gentry on their own. The Gentry started systematically slaughtering and capturing changelings. Suddenly, the Autumn King crumpled and fell off his horse, dead. Someone had taken him out with a poison dart. His army panicked, not knowing what to do. The Winter, Summer and Spring Monarchs, riding together, formed the scattered, panicking armies into one cohesive unit. They forced the Gentry back into Arcadia, saving as many of their changeling brethren as they could.
After the war was over, the Changelings rebuilt the freehold. It was at this time the established the court of Day and Night as a fail safe in the event something like this happened again.
Today, the freehold thrives. Power is handed from one court to another at the appointed times. There exists strong bonds between the courts and more than one or two pledges exist between the monarchs.
