Consillium Status will represent how you interact with ALL other mages. It will have this tangible benefit. Lets say Prof X is a status 5, and you are a status 2. He will gain 3 dice against certain social rolls (such as persuasion) and you will be penalized 3 dice for certain social rolls against him.
If you purchased ORDER status at the beginning of the game, you can never go below one. It can be raised in game with status threads, but these represent what type of help you can call on your order for. Do not expect these to fluctuate as easily as the Consillium statuses. The represent actual standing in an order, and not just a "shock and awe" effect.
