I'm just wondering if there is an official ruling anywhere that one shouldn't post up his entire character history in the Forum (to perhaps prevent OC knowledge spilling into IC), or if everyone has just started a "quick character"?
I'm currently writing a rather lengthy history on my main character, and was wondering if I should post it up for everyone to read, or if that is a bad idea. Is everyone comfortable with separating out-of-char knowledge and in-char knowledge?
PS: I enjoy it when people read my stories and comment on them, so that I can learn and improve

As of this time we have Players playing Elder, mainstream and a couple fresh cuts. Elders will soon be locked to try and get some more mainstream blood before we have a city of elders playing long games of Chess with thier opposition instead of the mainstream that tend to War and Checkers to solve the issues at hand....
OK really bad analogy but was funny when I first thought it up....

I think alot of the characters have backstories they just haven't been posted- such as my character. Also I think there are a few that have pretty detailed histories, but I don't know if they have been actually documented.
I don't know about the posting though...it's never been brought up to my knowledge

There is no official ruling, to answer your question. However, (and I can only speak for myself here, but i do believe that Lady Frost and Dredloke feel the same way) not posting your characters entire background is preferred. Keeping what you as a player know IC and OOC straight can be difficult at times. The character descriptions are generally used to describe what people in the city would know about you.
You know your characters history and your ST(s) knows your characters history. Unless you choose to divulge that information to another character or player, it should remain that way. Just my .02! HTH.

Well, I posted the first three chapters of my chars history, which does not divulge too much information. Rather a recollection of what he felt and had gone through.
Let me know what you guys think! I always enjoy criticism, as it allows me to tune my writing (as a Swiss god knows I need the practice!)

OK, now that you have probably been totally confused, allow me to give you an official ruling.
We have a forum section known as Memories of a Time Long Past located in the Vampire The Requiem forum. This specific area is reserved for the players who wish to post stories of their kindred characters past experiences. It can be your whole background, or just sections of it written in greater detail then the origional background you sent in.
For example, there is a post in there about one of my characters. It is a story of how she ended up in an asylum for nearly a year and how she escaped. That's it.
I know that sometimes I need to flesh out a particular time in a characters life so that I can play the characters development better. This area allows everyone to do that.
How much you choose to post in this area is entirely up to you. There is no penalty for posting a characters background. Anyone who has any experience in role-playing understands the difference between OOC and IC information.
If any of our newer role-players seem to have a hard time understanding the difference, then I will be more then happy to explain it to them so they may better their role-playing skills.
So, if you would like to share your characters history with the forum, be my guest. I, for one, am always interested in how a character came to be the person they are.

Aaah, perfect. That's exactly what I was looking for. I must've over read it.
Could you move my post of Marius from the "Character Descriptions" section to the "Memories of a time long past" thread?
And like I said, you all can give me feedback, it'll help me for future stories
