Kai walks out of the bedroom and notices everyone is asleep.
That's good. At least someone managed.
He walked over to the pantry and poured a vodka tonic. It's 5:30 somewhere
He pulled out some pots and pans and began making a full breakfast. After a few minutes, the smell of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and coffee permeated the house.

West came in from his morning run, and smelled the breakfast. Peeking his head in, he saw Kai fixing it. Ducking back out, because he didn't really feel like talking --at least not about the night before-- he headed upstairs to shower and get ready for the day.

Ankh comes down the stairs, dressed, showered, and ready to do.........something. She smells breakfast and sighs. Looks like Kai got to it first.
She heads to the table and sits down, waiting for Kai to give the word that he is done.

It doesn't take Kai long to set a plate full of food in front of Ankh, along with a glass OJ and a cup of coffee.
"If you slept anything like I did last night, looks like you are going to need that coffee." He looks at Ankh. "If you are worried about anything coming up from last night, don't worry. It's not my story to tell. And that's the last I will ever speak of it."
He walks back over to the counter and fixes a plate for West.
"Here's West's plate when he gets finished. I've been picking since I started so I'm good. I'm going to hit the shower. You guys should probably figure out what our next move is going to be."

Ankh just looks at him, impassive and blank. Inside she felt like total hell. The night had been riddled with nightmares, tossing, turning, and just a general sense of yuck. She'd woken up to a bed nearly pulled apart by her restlessness and had to remake the whole thing. She was tired, lonely, and starving.
Well tired and lonely will have to wait. But I can at least take care of the hunger now. She thinks as she digs into her breakfast.
She nods to Kai as he speaks, still shoveling food.

West wandered downstairs. He had skipped the usual suit in favor of jeans and a fifteen year old Nine Inch Nails concert t-shirt that looked brand new.
It looked like Kai had left, but prepared him a plate. He took it and sat, and smiled at Ankh. "Hey. You still look tired... did you read that book all night?"

Ankh shakes her head. "No, I have sleep issues. Kai said you and I need to figure out our next move. Whatever that means. He said he'd been picking as he cooked so he is full and is gonna go grab a shower."
She felt weird. Kai wasn't exactly treating her different, but at the same time he was. And since when did West wear anything other then a suit? She eyes the shirt and jeans. He didn't look bad by any means, just different.
She motions to his clothing. "What's the occasion?" She asks with a smile.

West shrugged. "Just never get to wear some of my clothes, I guess." He waved his fork at her, "You know, maybe your daimon wants to talk to you, if you're having sleep issues... " He looks like he wants to say more, but doesn't.
"Kai's probably referring to the Cartright murder, or going to see what the Guardians got from that guy we bagged. We also have your guitar string." He looked at her expectantly to see which she thought they should pursue.

West shook his head. "Maybe we'll drop off the guitar string, but Cartright was a Master. That really narrows down who's qualified to deal with his killer, or killers."
He gave a slight shrug, "Any Adept or even Disciple can question the Banisher or examine the Sympathy of the guitar string. The Third Phalanx tells us to Employ Magic Strategically and the First tells us that Opposition Defines Power. That's a fancy way of saying 'the right tool for the right job'," he finished with a smile, hoping it didn't sound like a lecture.
West smile faded as he continued. "Your daimon is, uhm, like your Soul's personal, built-in shrink... except a bit on the tough love sometimes. Some Mages never meet them, or prefer Goetic rituals instead." He gave her a curious look, "You've never been to to the Oneiros?"

She listens to him speak in silence, wondering how many edicts of the Arrows there were. Maybe he could get her a book of them or something.

"If you're really interested in the dream time, I'll tell you how to get there," West told her with a serious look. "It can be very... personal... until you learn to deal with it. Unless you want to go to the Temenos, which is the shared dream space." He shrugged at that. "But that's not wise until you've found your daimon a few times."
He didn't want to go into what the Astral entities could do to someone who had no control over their daimon, and hoped she would just accept that.
"Of course I'm going to teach you the Adamant Way," he changed the subject. "And no, there's no book. We'll go over the Phalanxes each night until you've learned them."

Oh good, now I will have something to concentrate on before I go to sleep. Maybe it will keep the nightmares at bay.
"I would really like that. I need to know the creeds to live by, otherwise I am no better then a poser. Yes, I would also like to find my daimon. I think her and I need to have a very long talk."
She scoops up the last of her eggs, eats them, and then sets the plate aside. "For right now, what is on the agenda O Great Teacher?" She teassd.

"Let's see what Kai is doing, but I'm guessing we'll go see the Magister or see if they got any forensic evidence from the Cartright scene," he replied as he finished the last bit of his breakfast.
He heard her teasing him, but was distracted with the thought that he needed to impress upon her what the daimons were capable of, and not to kill them. Not that he thought she would be the type to do that, but accidents could happen.
West looked down at himself. "Guess either way means I'm changing," he said with a rueful smile.

"Why? Is there a clause in there that states all Wests must dress in suits at all time? I mean, you look fine. What is wrong with what you have on now> Cause if there is a clause in there that says the same thing about Ankhs then we are in trouble. I don't have any suits, other then the blue one that I wore to meet Undrichmann and you seemed to feel it was inappropriate."

"No," he said, returning the quizzical expression. "They're just useful. It's really difficult to weave a spell to convince someone I'm an FBI agent wearing this, rather than a suit. Besides... where would I put my gun?"

"Well, I could think of a few places, actually, but I doubt you want to hear them." She says with a sly smile.
Getting her serious face back she says. "Ok, so I should go out and buy some suits? I mean, I can do that. I don't have a problem with it."
She blushes as she remembers the last time she said she would go buy some more conservative clothing. "I mean, I can really do that........this time."
Trying to cover up her embarrassment, she begins to clear the table.

West was too busy staring at the half-empty cup of coffee to notice her blush. He remembered that after afternoon, also... as well as his daimon that night.
"I'm not sure, honestly," he spoke. He had given it quite a bit of thought. "If you dress... errr, normally... it would let us work different strata of social classes," he said, verbally moving from the familiar to the formal unconsciously.
"Besides, you don't carry a weapon, so it's up to you." He looked at her, adding, "Talon."
He finished helping her clear off the table, and went upstairs to change. He stared at the sets of navy and tan suits.
Why did I put these on this morning?

Ankh shrugs. "Yeah ok, I'll be back then. You and Kai need to discuss what's going on anyway. This will only take about twenty minutes. So, go change."
After finishing with the dishes, she grabs her keys and heads out the door.
She decides to head to a Penny's and maybe a Sears after that. They usually have some decent looking suits. If she is going to have to dress like an ordinary business woman, she may as well do it with something of quality.

The bags under his eyes are apparent.

"She went shopping," West replied. "I figured we'd drop off the guitar string with the Guardian spooks and go take a look at the Cartright scene. I'll call her and tell us to meet us at the Guardians', unless you've got a better idea."
West stood up and looked at Kai. "I figured we'd go there first since we're apparently using their methods of deceit and torture now."

Kai stared at West for a moment.
"I couldn't, and wouldn't go any easier on her just because she's your pupil. I wasn't very happy with Undrichmann when he asked me to initiate her. Come down on me all you want, I won't fight you on it, but you should know that she carried your honor well."
Kai looked down for a minute. "I would have much rather done anything in the world. So don't make it any worse on me than it already is. I've been tempted already to see if Undrichmann would hold up to the same test."

West nodded, as satisfied with the response as he imagined he ever would be. "All right, let's go find Vex and see if they can get anything off the string... then off to the Cartright murder scene?"
Something told him that he was going to wish he had kept in touch with that Epochal Wraith he'd known back in Houston.
