 Two Apostates and an Arrow walk into a sandwich shop...

After the cab arrives, West and Circe climb in and tell him the destination is Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppe.

West: Ankh sees West, seated with an attractive red-headed woman. West is already halfway through a rather large sandwich, and the woman is giving him a slightly exasperated look. West waves at Ankh, wipes his mouth and stands up.
West: Hi (offers hand, gestures to seat, points to Circe, all very awkwardly) This is Circe... Circe, Ankh
Circe: a pleasure (she stands as well and offers her hand)
Ankh: (Ankh shakes their hands and smiles) Let me order then we can get down to business
Ankh: (she goes over to the counter, orders her turkey on rye and comes back to the table)
Ankh: (after taking a bite or two she looks up from her food) Now what can I do for you?
West: (West nods, and returns to his sandwich, albeit a bit more slowly)
West: Well, I wanted to talk to you about people like us... and I brought Circe to give some perspective
West: Have you ever met any others?
Ankh: Yes I had a teacher back in San Frasisco, but it was very crowded and convoluted there. So, when I heard about this place I packed up and moved
West: (West has wrapped the table in a Sound barrier, rendering their conversation soft and indistinct outside their immediate vicinity )
Circe: How long ago was that?
Ankh: Well I moved here about two months ago and I woke up roughly two or three years ago
Ankh: I know that there are groups of us in some sory of Orders or something but I honestly don't know that much
West: (Nodding) Yes, we have 4, sorry, 5 Orders that some Mages join.
Ankh: He mainly concentrated on my studies
Ankh: He was part of something called the Silver Ladder but they semmed very........stuck up to me
West: (nodding) The Orders are collectively referred to as the Pentacle. Did he ever explain their functions?
Ankh: Not really, other then to say it was a safety measure and it would help me learn better when he felt I got to that point but that didn't happen
West: (West looks at Circe with an expectant teacher look)
Circe: (circe smiled lightly) well I've been in your position I have no chosen an order offically yet... I have served with West here though for some time now
Circe: with a group called the Adamantine Arrows
Circe: You already know of the Silver Ladder... there are also the Guardians, the Mysterium and the Free Council
Ankh: I met a few of them in San Fran, they seemed likable enough. They were very.....disciplined
Ankh: Yes I knew a few of the Free Council as well. I did not iunderstand their philosophy very well however
West: (West shrugs) Some can be. We're a militant Order, who defend the Pentacle.
Ankh: I see
West: The Free Council espouses a freedom of thought and ideals and was originally a movement in protest of the original four Diamond Orders.
Ankh: And the other gentleman I met the other night? Is he an Arrow as well?
Ankh: I'm sorry, the what?
West: (nods) Yes, Stone is also an Arrow.
West: The Diamond Orders?
Ankh: Yes
Ankh: Ahh Stone is that his name? He seemed rather, erm, preoccupied with the other ladies so I just left him alone
West: The Diamond Orders refers to the four original Orders before the Free Council joined. Now the five Orders are called the Pentacle Orders.
Ankh: Ah I see
West: (nods, slowly) Perhaps Stone was distracting our other guest.
Ankh: And what do the Mysterium and Guardians do?
West: The Mysterium act as the 'librarians' as well as researchers and artifact retrievers. Some of them can be very... Indiana Jones.
West: Or Lara Croft.
Ankh: Oh the other gentleman? What was his name? (thinks for a moment and then waves it away dismissively) I don't remember, he was quiet though
Circe: The Guardians... Guardians of the Veil for their full name... function as a sort of secret police....
West: (shaking head) The Guardians actually perform more of an Internal Affairs function, as well as helping keep the unAwakened population ignorant of us.
West: And that the matchbook version of what people like us do, in our little society.
Ankh: Oh sounds like an important job
West: They're all important jobs... although some may at times seem more controversial than others.
Ankh: So....do I have to choose an Order then?
West: (shakes head) No, not at all. You can continue to live as you have been living.
West: Circe was an Apostate for a while, and really still is...
Ankh: Welll, as tempting and free as that sounds, I am very much a structure girl and I have been looking for structure.
Ankh: You are the only ones who have spoken to me about any of this and I have been in the dark since I got here
Circe: Well our little band is certainly structured.... we've been a well oiled machine for some time now...
Circe: I'd Actually been considering making my postion in the Arrows offical ... as has Azrael another Aposate thats with us..
Ankh: So, you brought more with you?
Circe: besides I'm a girl with a bunch of stinky guys I could use a little help keeping them in line (she winked)
West: (nods) We have two more, Kai and Azrael.
Ankh: (Ankh laughs) Well I would be happy to help
Ankh: I see and you all live in the same area?
Ankh: I mean like the same neighborhood?
West: Kai is also an Arrow, and as Circe mentioned, Azrael is still undeclared.
Circe: (Circe smiles) We share a sanctum currently
West: Errr..
West: Seperate rooms... it's a large house (laughing)
West: But you're free to stay at your home, of
course.
Ankh: Really? I have my own, it's on the upper side of town. I live there with my house staff, um long story
West: We... move around a lot. That might be something to consider. Then again, we may be here for a long time.
Ankh: Well I would love to, but what should I do with the staff that came with me? They have kind of helped to raise me since I was small, before I got sent to the hospital of course
West: (looks lost for words)
Circe: Your of course welcome to use your own residence there is nothing against that
Ankh: (she smiles) I was diagnosed with leukimia when I was five, then my parents died, my aunt sent me to the children hospital for the to "deal" with me until I awaoke when I was fourteen
West: It would be... difficult to bring them, considering the things we do 'at home' on a daily basis.
Ankh: I don't want to put them in any danger either though and I am afraid if I stay there, I will do that
West: Normal, ah, people may be frightened or not understand.
Ankh: Exactly my problem
Ankh: I was thinking of sending them back to San Fran but wanted to wait and see what oppotunities there were for me here
West: (nods) If you're serious, that would probably be a good idea. Are you sure this isn't too... abrupt?
West: Normally people think about this decision for a while...
Ankh: I have been, I have had very little in the way of contact with other Mages outside of my yeacher and that always bothered me
Ankh: There are a lot og things about the way our kind are that I do not understand
Ankh: I want to learn and understand them, but in order to do that I have to be around them first
West: I'm actually really surprised, I thought we'd have lunch and talk again in a few weeks...
Ankh: (she laughs) A few weeks? I don't know about that. I have had a few run ins with some of the other Mages here and it wasn't very pretty.
Ankh: It was also right in front of my house, that got me really worried
West: So... I don't want you to feel pressured because *we're* Arrows... none of the Orders sounded interesting?
West: (concerned look) What happened? Who were they?
Ankh: (she rolls her eyes) Well maybe they would have been if I had met different people from them?
Ankh: I don't know the name of one, but the other called himself Mr. Wells
Ankh: I was sitting in my room, looking out the window when this really weird fog rolled in
Ankh: Next thing I know there are two men in the middle of the street yelling at each other
Ankh: One cast a spell readying an attack and the other, Mr. Wells, did something to him
Ankh: He fell to the street unconcious
Ankh: At that point I ran outside and started yelling at them to stop
Ankh: Morons. You don't have a duel in the middle of the street in the middle of a neighborhood
Ankh: I tried to help the unconcious one but Mr.
Wells told me to leave him be, then told me something about watching myself
Ankh: Then he vanished, then unconscious one woke up and basicly told me to screw off then he vanished too
West: (looks pained at the word 'duel')
Ankh: I was going to try and heal him but after that attitude, I figured he could drop dead for all I cared
West: Well... that's... intense.
Ankh: Yes I was a little peeved
West: You might be better off staying with us then, if that's the case.
Ankh: Hence my concern over the house staff (she smiles again)
West: (nods) You're more than welcome to join us... see what we do... that's been what Circe and Azrael have been doing.
Ankh: Oh I am imancipated and I turn 18 in a few months so, legality should not be a problem
Circe: There is more than enough room still in the house...Azrael and I...well we sleep together so that leaves space open...
Ankh: Really? That's so sweet! It must be so nice to have someone who really understands you.
West: (looks pained again)
Circe: I wouldnt be alive if it wasnt for him....
Ankh: So, do you all erm take turns doing the mundane stuff around the house?
West: So... are you sure? I guess I keep asking because I'm... surprised.
West: I, uh, actually think we may need a weekly maid service...
Circe: well think about what you are.... the worlds is full of surprises (she grinned)
Ankh: (She quirks an eyebrow) You're surprised? I am surprised. Most of our kind that I have met have been very full of themselves. I was very surprised to find ones that are actually nice. But like I said San Fran had a very large Mage community
West: (shrugs) We just... kind of do what we're told. We're an Order based on service to the whole.
Ankh: Really? That's interesting, and who is it exactly that tells you what to do?
West: The ruling bodies of the Pentacle... the Consilium... or our Arrow superiors.
Ankh: I see, is there one here? A Consilium I mean
West: Uh. We're... not sure. We were actually sent here to solve a bit of a mystery.
Circe: (Circe glanced at West, not sure how to respond to that one with the situation that just happened earlier)
Ankh: Figuring out why they all disappeared, yes I know. I was sent for the same reason
West: (confused look) By whom?
Ankh: The Silver Ladder of San Fransisco
Ankh: They didn't know what else to do with me and I was done with that city anyway so, I agreed
West: That's... interesting... and... you're not a member?
Ankh: Ah no, my teacher is, but I chose to......take my own path if you know what I mean
West: (nods)
West: (finishes sandwich)
West: So, where do you want to go from here? You have my number, do you want to make arrangements and give me a call? Or...?
Ankh: (Ankh takes a bite of her sandwitch, not sure what to say at this point)
Ankh: Well (she says swallowing) Maybe you should talk to the rest of the people you live with first?
Ankh: Make sure it is OK with them too, you know?
West: (shrugs) They'll be fine. A new potential Arrow would actually be cause for celebration.
West: Kai's very laid back and Azrael will do whatever she tells him (looking at Circe and grinning)
Ankh: Smart man.
West: Kai's also very... holistic... I think you'll like him.
Ankh: Oh yes, one more question. Um what kind of Mages are you two?
Circe: Azrael was a Police Detective before he awakened.... he's still a very protective person of his friends and everyone around him
West: I walk the Path of Thistle, and the Watchtower of the Lunargent Thorn.
Ankh: Path of Ecstasy and the Watchtower of the Stone Book
Circe: Azrael shares yours of the Primal Wilds I am of the Lead Coin in the Realm of Stygia....
Ankh: Ah so a diverse group then?
Circe: But still a family.... our differences make us stronger
West: Two Thyrsus, an Acanthus, a Mastigos, and a Moros... not bad.
Ankh: (Ankh finishes her sandwitch and wipes her hands on a napkin)
West: So... would you like to see where we're staying?
Ankh: Oh yes, very much so.
West: (looks awkward) I don't supposed you drove? We've took a cab...
Ankh: Oh, yeah, I'm parked out front. You don't drive? (she stands and throws her trash away)
West: (deadpans) No, I usually fly, but it's overcast...
Circe: Smartass
Circe: (she playfully smacks at Wset)

The conversation winds into the better part of the day. Customers flit in and out of the sandwich shop, and several times the owner peers over in mild frustration at the group that just doesn't seem to want to leave.
But he's unwilling to confront paying customers, so he lets it go and begins preparing shaved meats for the dinner rush.

Ankh, Circe, and West finally leaved, and get in Ankh's car to head back to the Sanctum.
