There is an impression in the grass the size of a body of about 5'6 in height. There is very little blood at the scene to speak of, one would expect a lot more considering the condition the body was in when it was found.
There are three sets of footprints in the dirt near the scene. All three sets enter and leave the scene.
There is little else of note to the nakid eye. _________________ "I might like you better if we slept together."

He points to the three sets of footprints "Three people were here between the night before and the time she was found by police. That means that we either have 3 people who are bad samaritans, or the killer, his accomplice, and the victim. Or maybe just the killer and two samaritans. Regardless, we need to know how deep these impressions are and see if we can't learn anything about how heavy the walker was, as well as the shoe size."

As Joeseph inspects the footprints, he immediately notices that one set is much smaller then the other two. He also notes that one of the larger sets was made by a woman in heels. The third set appears to be a normal large sized tennis shoe, probably male.

She watched Joeseph carefully and made sure to stay out of the crime scene area. Yes, she knew how cime scenes worked as far as not touching anything, but she wated to see how Joeseph worked one. Maybe she could learn something.
It would also be bad form if she mucked it up on her first day. _________________ "I might like you better if we slept together."

Joe begins nodding as he examins the footprints. "Alright, now make sure you don't walk on any of them, but squat down here." He says, as he and her begin to look over one of the heeled prints. "See, the point with this one is to note the heel. A classic rookie mistake is to see a heel seperated from the toe and think of a woman's heels. Unfortunalye, loffers will also have a very similar design. You have to look for the shape of it. See how this heel here is more of a square? Loffers usually are U shaped. So this says that its a woman's heel. Unfortunately, the ground seems to be pretty hard packed around here, otherwise we could get an idea about how deep the imprint is and get a feel for how heavy this woman was. If she had sunk in a lot, she would either be a very heavyset woman in heels; unlikely, or a woman in heels carrying an unusually heavy object, like a body."
He leads Vanessa over to the next set. "Now, small like this screams child, but hold your horses a little. Could be a child, but it also could be an chinese woman. They tend to wear shoes that are way too small if they have had that foot-crunching thing. The easiest way to tell the difference is the depth. Again, this hardpack is killing us."
"The last one is pretty helpful actually. Tennis shoes are often very distinctive between brands, as compared to others. For example, look at this curve here. Looks funny right? But thats because its backwards." He holds a mirror above it. "Now, look a the mirror, and you can start to see the little lines that form an S. Sketchers is this man's preferred shoe. Also note how the treads aren't very distinct. Means that the shoe is a decently old one. While that doesn't give us much to go on, it will help us compare and match stuff."
Joe takes a deep breath and scans the park.
"I'm going to radio dispatch to see if the vic was wearing any shoes, and if so what. Meantime, you should follow the little tracks, see where they go. I'm going to follow the heels. Make sure to note wherever one stepped on top of another, and we can figure out a rough timeline based on whose shoe is on top of whose."

Venessa quirks an eyebrow at him and shakes her head.
"All that is well and good, but doesn't the report also say the body was found by a woman who had her children with her? I am not saying we should assume these are their tracks, but I am sure it's a good bet. I'll call and find about the shoes on the vic."
She looked at the foot prints and started following the smaller ones. She noticed immediately that the heels were right next to the smaller feet, but she continued to follow them. They went all the way back to the playground area and then stopped as the grass took over. _________________ "I might like you better if we slept together."

Joe looks at Vanessa blankly as she reminds him about the report.
"Right, rule 2. read the reports. Yeah, I miss my desk. Normally I'd read the report there, leave it there, come out to the scene, poke around..." *he shakes his head* "Sorry, no excuse. But at least you learned something."

She nodded, having completely forgotten about his desk issues.
"Don't you have a lockable drawer in that desk? If not I would suggest getting a lockable filing cabnet or something. Or you can store your files at home. That's what I started doing in Narcotics. Haven't lost a file in five weeks. Until my idiot partner stole that club investigation file out of my cabnet. I swear that SOB picked the lock."
She continued to search the grounds as she spoke, looking for anything the other cops might have missed that could lead to the identity of the victum. _________________ "I might like you better if we slept together."

Joe sees a camera set up in the Old Woman's Shoe setup. As he inspects the angle, he can see that the camera could very well have picked up the killer dropping the body off in the dump area.
She nodded, picking through the grass around a nearby playset. Looks like Hansel and Grettles wooden cottage.
"I don't understand what is wrong with those people. That's why I think the department is corrupt. The last department I worked at was nothing like this. They actually went out and did their jobs, especially in the homicide division. Oh! I think I've got something."
She holds up a necklace. It is a thin gold chain with a small angel pendant.
"Maybe this belongs to the vic." She moves closer to Joe to hand him the pendant. _________________ "I might like you better if we slept together."

Joe winces as vanessa starts handling the evidence. "Sorry, didn't think we'd actually run into anything." He says, and takes out a pair of examination gloves. "Gotta watch out for fingerprints everywhere." He takes a third glove and uses it as a makeshift baggie, writing on it where they found it. "Alright, if you will follow the other set of footprints, I'm going to go see if old grandma shoe has a security camera full of evidence that I can borrow. "If you find anything else, put a pair on" He says, and hands her his belt-box of gloves. "Unlike in Vice, we could only wish to have the perp brag to his buddies about this stuff." He says as he disposes of the gloves and walks to the shoe store.

The plump, rosy cheeked woman behind the counter smiled. "Of course, of course. One moment."
She walked through a door behind the counter and returned a few moments later with a CD case in one hand and a tray of cookies in the other.
"Here officer, have some fresh baked cookies. I keep them around for our regular customers. Would you like a cup of coffee?" Before waiting for an answer, she turned to a small table next to the counter and began pouring coffee into a styrophome cup. She continued to speak as she dropped sugar cubes and some cream into the coffee.
"You must be investigating that poor woman's death. How aweful for her family. Have you figured out who she is yet? Oh," she chuckled nervously as she handed him the cup, "of course, you can't tell me can you. Well, I certainly hope my tape can help with all of this unfortunate mess."
She handed him the CD case and continued to speak.
"If there is anything else I can do to help, please let me know. I wasn't here when the body was found, you see. My shop doesn't open until nine. But I certainly noticed all the police cars and the ambulance when I pulled in." She clucked her tongue. "Such terrible business. Oh, is there a reward for assisting in a murder investigation by chance?" _________________ "I might like you better if we slept together."
