After calling Ankh, Kai and West caught a cab to the Westfield Plaza to meet her, and they went wandering through the parking lot to find her car.
"Kai," West asked, "Where did you take that Banisher? I have no idea where the Guardians are hanging out so that we can drop off this string."

Ankh pulls into the parking lot and finds herself a place to park. West didn't exactly give her a specific store to meet at, but it wasn't like she couldn't find them if she needed to. She shifted the suit uncomfortably, cursing herself for even agreeing to such nonsense. Who cares what she wears?
Oh wait, that's right, West does. Which means I have to care. Which means I have to look like every body else. Which means my style and comfort goes right out the window. Why, oh why do I get myself into these situations?
All of this runs through her mind as she scans for the boys. Spotting them, she begins to walk brusquely toward them.

Noticing Ankh, he waved at her and began heading towards her. She didn't look thrilled.

She gave him a hug and then moved over to hug Kai.
"All right, boys, where to?" She asks warmly.

Kai pulls out his phone and calls Vex.
"Vex, yeah. We would like to meet to find out what you have been able to glean from the prisoner."
There's a short pause as you see Kai's blood pressure visibly elevate
"What do you mean you'll get around to it. You're goddamned right you'll get around to it, and you'll get around to it in the next few fucking minutes"
A longer pause as Kai takes a deep breath
"I don't give two shits about your policies and procedures. We brought him to you so you could find out what he knows? You know what, it's no wonder no one wants to work with your sorry asses. SOOO, you can choose a place to meet, or we can go to Undrichmann, and hunt you down."
Kai takes a couple more breaths. and nods "That sounds wonderful. Now that wasn't so hard was it?"
Kai snaps his phone shut. "Whore"
"Sandwhich shop where we first met her in an hour. Next time, you make the call"

West looked over at Ankh while Kai was talking. Whatever had been bothering her seemed to have passed.
When Kai got off the phone, he asked, "You want us to take the meeting? You can play backup and cool off." He still wasn't sure what the local fascination was with open meetings in public, but he still didn't care for it.
He wondered if Ankh was a latte drinker, too.

Kai didn't say a word. He was to tired to argue, and would have more kick back room in the back seat to catch a couple winks before they got there.
Other than idle banter and an occasional snore coming from the back seat, the drive is fairly uneventful as they park and stroll up to The Waterfront.
Mistress Vex is sitting outside drinking some sort of coffee and cream mixture that looks like its name would take up half of a page in a novel. She doesn't look mad, but her usual smug smile isn't there. In fact, she looks more afraid sitting there than anything.

West got out of the car and took a few moments to survey the scene, and pointed her out to Ankh. "We met her here when we first came to Sacramento. She was eavesdropping on our conversation with some other Arrows."
What would Ankh say if she were there for the Duel at the Kruegans?
"Then at one point it seemed we would be put under her supervision," West said with a slight roll of his eyes, "So I have no idea what to expect."
Flicking at his jacket break the slight crease from the butt of his pistol, West looked at Ankh and Kai to see if they were ready.

Kai looks at Ankh for a second, and then shrugs. and hands her his arm.
As they approach Vex, and she finally notices them, the cool smug smile returns in an instant.

"And here I was hoping to one day be the Neidan plaything.
Looks like the only ones missing are the scarecrow and toto too."

West stiffened slightly, and then replied with a smile. "Apparently, since we've been beset by a winged monkey."
He hoped she caught the fact that he didn't think enough of her to label her as the Wicked Witch.
Fishing the guitar string out of his pocket, he set it down in front of her. Apparently she didn't want to share a drink and play nice, so he didn't sit.

Sitting, he motioned to the string. "Probably nothing, since that Sac U crew had a Teleporter with him, but you never know."

Kai walks away to go and grab the requested items.
"You guys keep it civil. Vex, if I hear of any more insults, we will have problems."

Vex watches Kai walk away. "He really needs to take life a little easier, and enjoy pleasures outside of being a mage." She looks like she refocuses for a second, and her face becomes serious for a minute.
"We have slight problem. I took every step I could to make sure the mage you found was sedated and out of his wits. Trust me, I take pleasure in it. We managed to extract a name, but nothing else. He mentioned the name Ed, and apparently this is the guy behind it all." Her face looks sad.
"Even I have to sleep. Listen. I know you guys have no reason to trust me. But I want you to extend your mistrust to everyone at this point. Matt...." she trails off, and for a brief moment you see fear cross her face "he got away."

"The only reason you're getting this information from me is because I know you guys were responsible for one of their deaths, and yes, I think it was an inside job." The smug attitude has left her face, and she lowers her voice to a barely audible whisper.
"I think Niles might somehow be involved."

Ankh has no idea who this Niles person is, but it doesn't really matter. If Niles was supposed to be a Guardian, or a good guy to put it simply, and he had turned on his own, then he was a threat regardless.
