Mrs. Scotts arose and bathed. She pulled her hair tight, and did her best to look as professional as possible. She double checked and triple checked all the gifts and namecards. Everything had to be in the right place. She waited patiently, watching her corousel go round and round. She admired the broken peice of glass that she had put on the mantle.
"Oh Asa, I'm so glad we understand each other."
"Did you say something Mrs. Scotts?" Francisco asked.
"No" she said in his mind "is everything ready for our guests?"
He had learned that it was unnecessary to verbally respond. His mind was an open book to her. She smiled, and waited for her guests to arrive.

Erika was the next to arrive, wearing a rather demure and downplayed version of her usual gypsy skirt and blouse. She knocked on the door and waited, reading over the invitation one last time to be certain she had the correct address.

Erika nods to the hispanic man, and then allows Mrs. Scotts to guide her to her seat, answering her questions rather blandly, with the usual "Quite alrights" and other such phrases. She sits with no obvious objection to the seating arrangements, and bows her head politely to Icarus.

The table is a solid oak table, with a deep finish. There are seven seats total.
Icarus sits at the head and then:
Ishani Naetesh opposite Bella (with bella on Icarus' right)
Mrs. Scotts opposite Kira DeVois (With me on Icarus' right)
Erika opposite Conner Greyson (with Erika on Icarus' right)
Each place has a steel box in front of it. Icarus'es is slightly larger than the others.
On the mantle is a broken piece of blue glass, that seems oddly familiar to everyone that went to Asa's party.

Ishani knocked on the door and waited for it to open. She hated these meetings. Didn't she have enough to do without sitting around, listening to her clan tell her a bunch of crap she already knew? She was just too busy for this kind of thing. She really should be allowed a hall pass or something.
Bella showed up shortly after Ishani and gave the Sheriff a deferential bow. She waited in silence for the door to open, assuming Ishani had already knocked.
This one ought to be interesting. She thought grimly.

Ace knocks, having heard on the street there was a Mekhet meeting, having not seen any of his fellow Clan in ages and figuring it will be interesting if anything, and will take his mind off of what he saw the other night.

Mr. Lopez brings in another chair at the foot of the table, and Ace is shown to his place.
Mrs. Scotts rises from her sit, an outside pleasant demeanor belies the seething frustation she feels.
"Damnit Greyson! And DeVois! Ace managed to find out about this without a single phone call to me, whereas you both got letters and a text!" She thought.
"Thank you all for coming. I wanted to hold this meeting to introduce all of the family to each other, as well as relate that Ash has left the city. Additionally, as I'm sure you are all aware, we recently lost a member of our family, Hierophant Emma. I wanted you all to know that I take her loss very seriously, and am focusing my time and effort on tracking down her killers. To prevent such incidents in the future, I have given those of us who often find ourselves on the streets a flare gun. It is my hope that should one of us be attacked, the flare launched would be able to summon help in time. I don't want to loose anymore of my family." She seems calm still. But underneath that is cold anger.

Erika looked rather uncomfortable at the mention of flare guns. She wasn't particularly fond of guns in general, and the thought of needing to fire any kind at all sent a shiver down her spine. She maintained her cool, however, and let those who needed to speak, do so.

Ishani leans forward and fixes her gaze on Ms. Scotts.
"Let me get this straight. Not only have you decided to give a bunch of Mekhet flare guns, but you want them to set them off all over the city if they get attacked? Oh yes, because that is inconspicuous, right? Are you fucking mad? What do you think the kine of this city are going to do if all of a sudden flare guns start going off at all hours of the night for no reason that they can discern?"

Mrs. Scotts was expecting this. She had wished it wasn't going to be from the sherriff though.
"My lady sherrif, I believe I am not mad. I am struggling to find a way to protect the family without hiding us all in a bunker. If a flare goes up in the city, for Kindred it means one is in danger. For the Kine, it is a random occurrence. One which investigation, if the mortal authorities feel it necessary to perform, will result in the identification of the guns as being a gang signaling device."
She turned to everyone, keeping composed but allowing some of the fervor to seep into her voice.
"I consider the safety of the Mekeht family more important than bending believability. However, I am more than willing to listen to any other suggestions to keep the family safe."
"As for the flares themselves, they are launched into the air approximately 50-100 feet high, where they shine brightly for 25 seconds, afterwhich they fizzle and fall back to the earth. These particular flareguns are made of non-flammable plastic that does not transfer the heat of the launch, allowing one's beast to be better kept in check. It is also my hope, lady Sherriff, that they have to be used no more than once before the perpetrators are caught and brought to justice."
She kept all malice out of her voice at the last line, and injected as much pleading as she could. She did not want to fight the sheriff, she wanted the sheriff to fight the bad guys.

Erika frowned at the exchange between Ishani and Mrs. Scotts, and then just shook her head. "Flare guns in the countryside might not be unwelcome...but here in the city, even if it is attributed to gang activity, putting aside the issues of why our kind do not mix with such objects...do we really need more attention drawn to us, even misguided? There are already several mortals looking into the supernatural, specifically, at us." She nodded to Kira as she came in, but didn't seem too thrilled that she showed up late.
Better late than not at all, though...

Oh wait, we are also currently investigating the plants, the men who approached O-Yama and the ones who approached Ash. Hmmm, yes, so we have the time to come a-runnin' every time one of your flares goes off do we?"
She looked around at the other Mekhet in the room. "It is so nice to know that now the Whip of my clan can dictate my job for me. And I am so sorry to burst your bubble, Miss Scotts, but while you have the luxury of only worrying about the Mekhet, I have the chore of worrying about the safety of the entire city, you included. So, where I appreciate your enthusiasm and your ideas, why don't we stick to something that may not bring the entire city Police force down on our heads all at once. How about the buddy system? Don't go anywhere alone, tell someone where you are going and what time you plan to be back so they can contact me or one of the Deputies if you do not show up on time. How about that? Seems to work for five year olds pretty damn good."

Mrs. Scotts blinks confused for a moment,
"No one ever told me I was whip. Guess I got accepted." she thought.
and then rolls with it. She speaks calmly, her shoulders dropping a little as she released the tension in them.
"Lady Sherrif, I am not telling you how to do your job. I am trying to protect my clan. I understand that your responsibilities are broader than mine. However, I have responsibilities to my clan that I cannot ignore, namely the safety of its members."
She nods her head.
"That being said, you have made a good suggestion. If you, as Sheriff, are saying that we should adopt the buddy system, then I fully endorse it; for the safety of the clan."
Mrs. Scotts stares at Kira, as she enters.
"So good of you to join us Miss DuVois." She says, utterly deadpan, all trace of emotion vanished.
