 Manhunt (ATTN: Bella, Nicolo)

Asa left his meeting with his man on the Police force, file in hand. He stopped to send a message to Bella with the address of the apartment complex and headed that way, finally parking his car and waiting for her. Apparently some Sanctum business kept her and Nicolo together.
He still wondered why the man dressed the way he did and drove a Ferrari, but he was family. You can pick your friends...

Bella drove to the location Asa had sent her, Nicolo in the passenger seat. They drove in relative silence. Bella had already explained to Nicolo what they would be doing and asked for his assistance since the Cardinal had decided she was to keep an eye on him.
She didn't really mind the company, truth be told. But she would not give Nicolo that kind of leverage against her, either. Not until he had mellowed out a bit.
Pulling into the Roach Motel parking lot, Bella looked around for Asa's car. Finding it not far away, she got out and motioned for Nicolo to follow her.

As the trio make thier way to the hall the body was found in they see it is littered in trash and it doesn't even look like the police did much of an investigation.

Nicolo was trying to be polite, sitting in the passenger seat of Bella's car. What was this tin-top, coffin on wheels she was driving anyway? And she drove like a maniac. He silently crossed himself as she passed cars with no room and not enough power, and hit the throttle and brake with the finesse of a bull in a china shop. It was frightening. Perhaps tomorrow she'd let him drive.
Because there would be a tomorrow, apparently. This was news to him. The Cardinal had sent her word – not him, mind you – that she was to keep tabs on him. Incredibile. And she was taking her job very seriously.
It's not that he didn't like Bella. He actually did. A lot. She was incredibly sweet and caring, and had a spitfire side to her that would have given his nonna a run for her money, God rest her soul.
No, the problem wasn't Bella. It was that Bella was a woman. And she was in a position of authority over him. He wouldn't utter this out loud. And he would deny it to the end of his Requiem. But it just didn't sit well with him. It didn't sit at all with him. He had been trained in an extremely traditional sect of the Roman Lancea Santum, and much like the Roman Catholic counterpart, women did not hold positions of authority in the church. Nicolo had a big problem with Bella being above him.
But what could he do? Create a huge ugly mess? Leave and dig himself deeper into disgrace with his Sire? Or just swallow his pride, hope it blew over quickly and let it ride?
He was attempting to let it ride. As best as he could. But maybe, just maybe he could at least drive tomorrow...
Once they arrived at their destination, Nicolo followed Bella in and looked around at the trash and disarray. He noded to Asa as the Ventrue Priscus had arrived before them.

Bella looked around the place with a face full of disgust.
Why would any mortal allow anyone to take them to a dive like this? Even for some sleezy sex, one must have some standards. She thought, and decided to share her thoughts with someone.
She leaned in toward Nicolo to whisper confidentially, "If I was a mortal and some vampire loser took me here, I would stake his ass just for the insult. I mean, come on, even mortals have to have standards. Just because the sex is sleezy does not mean the place has to be. This place is just gross."
Smiling at Asa, she nodded toward the hall. "Do you know exactly where the body was, sir?"

Asa spoke absentmindedly as he thumbed through the file. "Please, call me Asa. I don't think it was an assignation, this says he was an indigent, probably alcoholic. Looks more like an opportunity than anything else. Let me say again, Miss Orchid, that I really appreciate the assistance. Ah, here we go. Shall we?" Asa started heading for the hallway noted in the file. He still wasn't sure how Bella and Nicolo was attached, but he was curious to see how the new Ventrue handled himself.

Asa leads them to the corner and stops, no police tape, no outline and unless the people in this place are total slobs, they did not even pick up any evidence around the body.

Nicolo nodded in agreement to Bella's comment. She was right. The kine should not be living this way, and certainly not be procreating in it. Disgustoso. He followed them further in to the hallway where the alleged murder had taken place.
"Priscus Asa, do you have any ideas why this investigation seems so... careless? Or do American investigators always handle crime scenes in such a manner?"

Asa looked at Nicolo with a bemused smile. "Just Asa, please. Especially when a title like that isn't common parlance to Kine."
He skipped the explanation of the socio-economic motivations of law enforcement resources as he studied the scene.
"There's where the body was..." Asa said, pointing to a very faint indention in the commercial carpet. "...and that might have been dropped when he was attacked." he continued, pointing to the remains of a bottle whose contents gave the refuse and carpet around it a brownish tinge. "The report does suggest he was a drinker. Is there enough to work with, Miss Orchid?"

Bella walked over to the remains to the bottle, answering Nicolo's question as she went.
"If the man was homeless, then the police would not have bothered doing much of an investigation. Chances are he had no form of ID and no known relatives and now the city will have to pick up the burial tab. So, he will probably get a blank gravestone along with three or four other bodies. That's if they don't creamate him, which they very well may do to save space."
She then looked at Asa with a slight smile. "And it's just Bella please. I really hate being called Miss, it makes me feel so foemal. And I am sure you have already guessed that I do not do formal well."
She picked up a few of the broken bottle shards and closed her eyes. Concentrating, she opened her mind to whatever images flowed from the broken glass to her mind's eye.
After a few minutes, Bella drops the shard of glass and stands up, wiping her hands off on her pants.
"Well, the guy was drink as a skunk. All he saw was a bald demon who grabbed him, turned his head to the side, sunk something sharp into his neck and then he had this pullung sensation from his neck. I am going to assume that was the bald demon drinking from him. Then, he slowly felt his life drain away until his heart just stopped. So, whoever this bald demon was drank the guy dry and then just left him here. I cannot even begin to tell you how much that pisses me off. Do we know anyone that is bald?"

Nicolo winced and wrinkled his face as Bella began to wipe her hands on her pants. Shaking his head, he quickly reached into his pocket and reached for a monogrammed handkerchief and offered it to her.
"Bella, can you tell what time the man was attacked, from your vision? Was it day or night? Or, perhaps in the police report, was there an estimated time of death? So if we find an 'bald demons', we can check alibis?"

Asa mentally chided himself for being too focused to answer Nicolo's question, and then considered Bella's description.
"The only bald one I know is Karsh. There's a new arrival who's shaved, but has a close-cut mohawk. That fellow Tombs, who had his car... vandalized. You may not remember him, but he was in the same group I was in that when with... Miss Naetesh."
Asa waited to see if that jogged Bella's memory. He couldn't imagine it was Karsh, but Tombs wasn't bald, either. He looked at Nicolo, "Have you met or seen any bald faces?"

"Yes, yes I vaguely remember him. I was in shock over Lucky's death. Well, this guy was sloshed off his ass, so he could have confused someone who was shaved, or even had a tight pony-tail, as a bald man. And, this took place at night, of that I am positive."

Nicolo thinks for a moment. "The only calvo kindred I have come across in my short stay in this city is O-Yama. If you want to add him to the list."
Then he looks around, seems a bit uncomfortable and finally says "Bella, Asa, I know we're here for a different matter, but I may not get a chance to speak with you both again privately and I don't know who else I truly trust." He looks at them both intently, then looks away and continues.
"Since coming here in the middle of what appears to be the beginning stages of a VII cleansing of your city – and if it's not VII, it's something equally as dangerous – I've been an advocate for action, not just studying botany. I believe I might have a strategy that could land one or more of the fanatical demons in our grasp. Then Bella and I could properly interrogate them, and discover their sleeper sects, giving us a chance to rid the area of the danger."
Nicolo looks to both for a response, hoping they'll be positve. Knowing he's taking yet another risk.

Bella frowned, she did not want to out right dismiss the plan, as Nicolo may have a decent idea. However, this is not what they were here for and she did not want to be rude to Asa by discussing something she felt was more dire.
Finally, she threw caution to the wind and hoped Asa would understand where her thought process was.
"Ok Nicolo, you have my attention. What is this plan and who is it you wish to interrogate?"

Finally! He could just kiss her. But he'd refrain.
"OK, Bella, Asa – just give me 2 minutes of your time. Then, I promise, right back to stinking, dead, homeless people." He flashed his crooked grin. "Now. VII are making attacks on us. Does it make everyone uncomfortable if I call them VII without proof? I'll call them "Them" or "They". They want to come into the city and make points, to make us afraid. In order to catch Them, we need to set a trap for Them. We organize a group of Kindred with the ability to fight, we set traps at known Kindred areas with isolated Kindred as bait. We lay in wait, and when They come for the bait, which eventually They will, we move in, separate Them, stake at least one, if not more, and detain Them for questioning."
He stops at this point, no longer smiling or giddy. "And this time, Bella, the questioning is done by you and I. And I think you understand what I am talking about. They don't leave without giving up the location of Their dens and other sensitive information."
"It's not a simple plan. It will require incredibly careful planning. In fact, I am already positive there are infiltrators within the Prince's domain. If this plan leaks out to anyone that is not one hundred percent trusted and loyal to the Prince, then it will fail. No part or portion can be uttered. Anywhere to anyone. It has to be on a need-to-know basis."
Nicolo shrugged. "That's it. What do you think? At least we'd have "someone" in our hands, rather than a bunch of flowers..."

Asa listened and then asked Nicolo, "Do you have any evidence that there are infiltrators? If there are, I'd much prefer to cover a pig in soot than use live bait."
He personally wondered why they weren't being more proactive, and was interested to see the Primogen so receptive. Had he made a mistake in not sharing his reservations about their laissez-faire attitude with Ishani?

"I think your idea has merit. And you are correct, it would be better to keep this as low key as possible. But, I have two questions for you. One, is the same question Asa has, and the second is, who do you propose well tell all this to? As you are the one with the utmost secrecy in mind."

"Bella -- I mentioned to you at Asa's party, the one talking so loudly. I do not know for sure, but have a gut feeling, a very strong feeling she was perhaps with Them or sent by Them. I know you made the suggestion to the Seneschal, but she did not take you up on your offer to help her question. How can you question someone without a sorcery that "forces" someone to tell you no lies." He raises an eyebrow at Bella.
"And, if the group targeted so many of your Churches, Elysiums, Covenants, well, they must have intelligence somewhere in the city. Their group must be here, walking among us, hearing what we say, what we do. Watching where we go. I do not care whether you call them VII or Moongazers, it is all the same to me. They are dangerous Kindred that want to cleanse the city. And they are here. Somewhere."
"So, how do we control the plan and make sure it only gets to those ears that we trust? Bella, that I need your help and expertise with. I am new here, I would have no idea where to even begin. But you would. And Asa would. And you are both well connected. You two could make this happen correctly."

Asa had thought about a lot of these things himself.
His answer, to Nicolo, was less than encouraging. "I'm sorry, Nicolo, but the Seneschal herself was satisfied with Miss Rose's innocence. Unless you have something definitive, I won't question that judgment. As for any others, you may or may not be right... but all of that information is possible through observation as well as infiltration."
He paused, then continued, "Personally, I don't think there's enough to claim a Acknowledged member of the Domain is a traitor. I will go along, however, if the Primogen wishes to pursue this line of thought and course of action."
Asa stopped and looked at Bella. She was Primogen, which meant the Prince valued her opinion.

Bella shot Asa a look, as if to say, gee thanks a lot.
She shook her head. "I would like to say that your idea is sound. But, that fact is, none but the Prince have any right to question what the Seneschal does. Also, in my experience with Them, this is exactly what They are looking for. I don't think we have an infiltration problem. They want us to look inward, we need to look outward. We need to find those that accosted O-Yama, and showed themselves to Ash. They are who we are looking for."

Asa gave a small shrug. "Sure, it has merit, but they also don't seem to have attacked anyone since that night... they seem rather content to work on their own agenda and timetable."
He pulled out his phone. "Now, I'm not marginalizing this at all, but we do have a lot more to go on with our bald renegade. Let's have O-Yama meet us at the Grindhouse and see if we can't kill two birds with one stone." He looked at Nicolo, "We'll all keep thinking about your plan, but the Prince has also asked why this problem hasn't been handled."
Asa hoped Nicolo wouldn't take offense, because he realized the Outsiders were the bigger issue... he just had a lot more to work with on the renegade.
After sending a text message, he looked at the other two. "Let's head to the Grindhouse? Even if O-Yama is late we can speak with Karsh and continue to discuss the Outsiders."
