PostForum: Guarding the Border (Forsaken IC)   Posted: Sat Mar 14, 2009 2:08 am   Subject: return to the forest
Grip-of-Steel stood in the small clearing with the others. The voice of the forest spirit was as overwhelming and painful as he remembered. This time he was more calm though. Weeks spent on meditation and training had helped him strenghten his inner balance. Now his rage felt like a big ball of energy inside him, a solid center, protecting him from the howling.

Grip-of-Steel waited silently, willing to learn everything he could from Taylor and this meeting.

Grip-of-Steel felt the dread washing over him, and he was glad it was not him doing the talking this time. Only the real deal if shit was going to hit the fan. Grip-of-Steel respected and shared the Thu Ibiru mindset, understanding that every strike could not be made with claw, but this time he had to admit that the possibility of brutal violence felt somehow comforting. With these thoughts he follows Taylor and others into the darkness.

Grip-of-Steel walked into the water after Taylor and started swimming without saying a word. Some times there was a need for words, but now Taylor was here, better suited to do what needed to be done. The water reminded him of Glenwood Springs. He had swimmed a lot in the hot springs there and even if this water was cold, the similarity brought comfort.

Grip-of-Steel tried to focus, remembering that this was Shadow, place of nightmares, not of daydreams.

Grip-of-Steel followed Taylor. He felt his muscles tighten as he walked towards the water. Grip-of-Steel felt even his left palm tingle slightly. Obviously memories of the last visit had not faded yet.

Grip-of-Steel grins: FT: "I'll follow your orders Taylor, you know it. " He then waits what those orders might be. Something about the newcomer feels oddly familiar, though Grip-of-Steel can't remember meeting him before.

Quite short Dalu-formed werewolf walks closer to the group, relaxing as he recognizes Taylor and Matthew. When Grip-of-Steel gets closer, he bows slightly to Taylor and nods to Matthew. He doesn't know the third person, but nods to him nonetheless. Then he turns to Taylor: FT: "I heard voices and decided to come to check them. Glad to see it is you guys, though it would've been even better to find some new spirits. I was looking for them, but what brings you here tonight?"

Actually I don't have a passport... it has expired a few years ago Laughing And as I haven't got chances to travel lately I haven't used my little savings to get a new one.

As to your question about my WoD gaming, I've got unfortunately very few chances to play. I've been an ST/GM for the last 10 years, but in other games (mainly WFRP 1st and 2nd edition). WoD has taken my soul though, as I just bought my 19th and 20th nWoD books (Blasphemies and The Rage). This site is therefore an awesome chance to me to play instead of ST, you can probably understand the strain to creativity when you GM/ST 10 years in a row. I haven't found myself a gaming group (probably 'cause I'm too lazy) so now it is only PbP gaming.

I have managed to live, even though I don't watch formula Laughing It is harder to explain my lack of interest in icehockey... That is concidered somewhat holy in here.... both Finnish League and bigger games. It is particularily important to defeat Sweden, or so it seems. But the hardest part ever has been to get people understand, that I'm not interested in drinking, or getting drunk... That is probably the most known quality of Finns around the globe, and our national sport like no other (especially with the brawls that seem to follow) Very Happy

HAHA! No I haven't met Kimi Räikkönen, nor would I look forward to. But then again, UNLIKE many fellow Finns, I don't watch formula, or any sports... or TV most of the time. I live more up in north in Oulu and I avoid Helsinki like cancer (because it is too big and busy for my taste, believe it or not). So sorry but can't help you with that Very Happy

You all seem to be doing/studying much more grandiose (sp?) things than I am. I'm studying to become a physical therapist. Now I've got following courses:

- swedish (1 course included in every study program)
- current needs of physical therapy (including work ergonomics and elderly care mostly.)
- follow-up course in electrical therapy (sp?)

and I should be making my bachelor's thesis about "Self-made water gymnastics for patients with operated breast cancer". I don't know if that litany of words makes any sense, as it was kind of hard to translate. BTW I'm from Finland.

PostForum: Forsaken Mood   Posted: Wed Mar 04, 2009 2:34 am   Subject: Grip-of-Steel's routines
A couple of days after getting the job as a paperboy and renting an apartment Grip-of-Steel had already formed some kind of routines to get daily things done. He decided it would be important that no two days would be alike.

The only thing that needed to be done at the same time most of the days was the delivery of newspapers early in the morning. Grip-of-Steel doubles the benefit by scouting the area at the same time, using his dual senses to find if there are any spirits to be seen. It only takes two or three hours, leaving him lots of time to other things.

After his First Change Grip-of-Steel has noticed that he can manage with only 5-6 hours of sleep per day. He also embraces his lupine heritage by sleeping when there seems to be a good time for it, changing the time every day. After he wakes up, whether it is day or night, Grip-of-Steel meditates for about 2 hours. He learned this from his mentor The-Falling-of-the-Last-Leaf after his first change. It helps him to maintain his balance and control his rage, making him more efficient and deadly.

Several hours every day are used to patrol the pack's territory. Grip-of-Steel uses his dual senses every now and then, like when working, to search for spirits. Otherwise his methods vary depending of the time of day. In the morning he concentrates on humans, following their doings, to discern the mood of the crowd for that particular day. In the daytime he uses some time to visit library to read newspapers. He may also visit some coffee shop to hear rumors, small events and to get to know local shopkeepers. In the evenings Grip-of-Steel changes coffee shops to pubs, but other details remain the same. At night he uses urhan form to be able to cover more of the physical territory. He makes sure he's not seen and concentrates on sounds and scents, also marking the territory.

When Grip-of-Steel is not doing anything previously mentioned he is probably exercising and honing his body. Running, biking, climbing, push-ups, sit-ups,pull-ups, weight lifting, everything goes and everything is needed to survive.

PostForum: Forsaken Mood   Posted: Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:07 am   Subject: I need a job and a place to live in...
It took two whole days and all his money to the last buck to get everything done. Grip-of-Steel had started the operation with buying some new, albeit cheap, clothes to use in the job interview. Then he had used a lot of effort to find and buy a cheap and used, but functional cell phone along with a prepaid telephone subscription. Now he had a number, and he didn't even have to give his name to get it. Dressed in a new blue jeans and black t-shirt he had walked to the address mentioned in the job advertisement.

The interviewer had been Robert Taxton, a big balding man in his 40s. He had kept Grip-of-Steel waiting for over half an hour before finally meeting him. Grip-of-Steel had imagined smashing the man's face against the wall a few times to speed things up. The interview had felt more like an interrogation and Taxton had tried his best to intimidate Grip-of-Steel. When the attempt failed, Taxton had tried to find a reason not to hire him. Apparently there was a grave lack of applicants, because he finally hired Grip-of-Steel and even gave him the area he had requested. Now Mr. Summers had a job.

Although getting the job had been irritating experience, finding an apartment proved to be even harder. First two had been rented already, when Grip-of-Steel had called the owner. The third had refused to rent to him. On the second day Grip-of-Steel had visited three more places. First place had been such a mess that he had just walked away and second had been too expensive for him. On the third try Grip-of-Steel found what he was looking for. The place was small and somewhat shabby, but the rent was cheap. The landlord was an easy-going man in his 60s and lived on the side of the city. Grip-of-Steel had told he worked in a newspaper and had got the place. The best part of the deal was that the place was already furnished. Nothing very expensive, but all the necessities, even dishes. Landlord had talked something about the former tenant winning a lottery and leaving without taking almost anything with him. Now Mr. Summers had his own place too.

Grip-of-Steel, or Mr. Summers to his landlord and employer, lied on the bed, hands behind his head. Another small victory, he thought, Maybe not a big battle, but it is still a victory. Before he let the feeling of victory totally overwhelm him Grip-of-Steel took his cellphone and sent messages to Taylor and Matthew. Before he had even put away the phone he had already fallen asleep.

PostForum: Forsaken Mood   Posted: Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:43 am   Subject: I need a job and a place to live in...
Grip-of-Steel had enjoyed Taylor's hospitality for a few days after he had been accepted to the pack. Though if someone would have counted the time he spent at the apartment, which went mainly to eating and sleeping, he would have thought that Taylor had a friend that visited him casually.

After Matthew had told him the boundaries of the territory, Grip-of-Steel had used the last few days to exploring his new home. He had used all of his time to walk, run and -occasionally at the night time - climb to different places in the territory. He already loved the place. Not because it would be very beautiful or harmonious or anything, but because it was home. Now he had learned the basics of the territory, which meant that he probably knew the area almost as well as those humans that had lived there for years.

And that brought Grip-of-Steel's mind back to the current goals. Now it was time to him to find a job and a place to live in. Grip-of-Steel had explored the territory in more than one way. He had read all the newspapers Taylor had, listened local radio and talked with some people on the street, trying to get better understanding of the territory's mood and recent history.

When talking to the people he had for the first time really noticed the fact that his mentors had warned him about: Humans feel uneasy around the Uratha. Almost every single time he had spoken to someone Grip-of-Steel had sensed that while they didn't seem to be afraid of him, their body language told something different. Perhaps the humans could sense his Thu Ibiru mindset, or maybe it was some primordial intuition telling them about the predator in front of them. The fact had been fascinating, even entertaining for a couple of times, but Grip-of-Steel knew that it could become a problem later.

And thinking about problems dropped him back to the reality again. A job and an apartment. Yesterday Grip-of-Steel had found an interestind ad in the newspaper. They needed a couple of new paperboys to work in different parts of the city. That meant that there was a bigger chance for him to get to work inside their territory. Grip-of-Steel had also underlined some ads about free apartments. He decided to check the job first.

PostForum: OOC Werewolf Discussion   Posted: Wed Feb 25, 2009 6:10 am   Subject: February Werewolf ST critique
As I am new here too, can't really say what has changed. So far I'm VERY pleased with this game. I liked very much how you represented the forest spirit that Grip-of-Steel and Matthew met. It made me sweat to come up with polite speeches (at least they felt more like speeches than questions etc.) so that we might live to tell the tale. I don't know how powerful that spirit actually was and don't think it would have killed us anyway, but it felt very dangerous and very alien (not he/she... just IT)... Just as a spirit should.

And to mention something from the OOC side. I like the fact that you answer quickly to questions and such. I have to say that your tone is much less friendly than most of other STs, GMs, DMs and such that I have met. One time I got a bit negative and detached impression about something you commented, though I don't remember the exactly what was it about. That all is probably your personality/personal style and it doesn't bother me, it just takes a while to get used to.

All in all, keep up the good work!

PostForum: Forsaken Mood   Posted: Mon Feb 23, 2009 2:05 pm   Subject: Member of a pack
Grip-of-Steel got back to Taylor's after the meeting with the forest spirit. He felt himself very tired, actually more so than he should have, despite the danger he went through with Matthew. After a while he came to the conclusion that the tiredness was caused by holding back the rage when talking to the spirit. He hadn't noticed it then, too much had been at a stake, but afterwards he could remember how his instincts had told him to attack the threat without hesitation.

Grip-of-Steel stared the wall in Taylor's guest room going through the encounter. That was a habit he had learned during his training after the first change. His mentor Moment-of-Thousand-Strikes had told him that one only needed to survive battles - not win - to become stronger and eventually overcome every obstacle, but only if one could learn something from every situation.

The only thing Grip-of-Steel felt went wrong was, that he didn't ask the name of the spirit. He felt somehow that it could become important later. He sighed to the situation and sifted his focus to Matthew's words after the encounter. He had gotten through it at least a dozen times now. This would change everything, he would at last find his place. He would have a place that he could call home.

What else could a wolf hope for?, was his last thought before falling to sleep.

PostForum: Guarding the Border (Forsaken IC)   Posted: Mon Feb 23, 2009 1:19 am   Subject: speaking with trees (attn: Grip-of-Steel)
Grip-of-Steel quickly wipes away one tear that hadn't reached his beard yet. He sizes up Matthew for a moment and speaks with a low voice that hasn't yet totally recovered from the encounter with that forest spirit:

FT: "Nothing is wrong, my friend. This might just be one of the most important and happy days in my life. I've searched for a place for myself for a long time, or so it feels. I can tell you more about it some day. Now let's just go back. Shadow, as empty as it is now, is not a good place for careless travelers."

Grip-of-Steel starts to walk again. This time he walks beside Matthew, not behind him.

Home... is this really true?

Grip-of-Steel suddenly feels how tense his muscles are, and it takes conscious effort to relax them. He walks quickly after Matthew not saying anything. It feels like he had used all the words and now the tongue refused to form any kind of sound.

Grip-of-Steel feels very tired and somehow strange, and it takes a while to find the reason. He is crying. And it has nothing to do with the spirit...

PostForum: Guarding the Border (Forsaken IC)   Posted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:10 pm   Subject: speaking with trees (attn: Grip-of-Steel)
Grip-of-Steel feels the sweat run down his back as the spirit talks to them. He understands, that they only leave this place alive, if this spirit wants it. And Grip-of-Steel has to give that reason to him, or trust his luck. Those who trust luck, don't live long! He considers the answer for a moment and speaks:

FT: "Truly your powers are great, mighty lord of the forest, and your wisdom is as deep as the tree roots that always grow, unhindered. When I came here tonight and saw this island I thought that some terrible faith had came upon this place, as I didn't see anyone from your brood. I feared that they may be lost, like so many has been lost before them."

"We came here to prevent anything from destroying this citadel of ancient power, which we believed to be weakened when the cityscape surrounded your domain from all sides, but now I see that I am mistaken. Surely you protect your kind, and would not have any kind of use for our meagre skills. Your powers can't be stopped and unlike us, you are eternal."

Grip-of-Steel didn't know if that was polite enough way to inquire the faith of the others spirits, but he felt a bit over his head here and that was the best he could come up with. It would also allow the spirit to use their help without losing it's face. Maybe it is enough. I think I won't like what happens, if it isn't.
