PostForum: Guarding the Border (Forsaken IC)   Posted: Fri Mar 13, 2009 8:39 pm   Subject: return to the forest
This would all be easier if he could place a face to that voice. That booming powerful voice. The sound still echoed through John's bones and body right to the core.

The forest spirit did not sound pleased and now Taylor was attempting flattery to pacify the creature. John had no experience with spirits, but this reminded him of a bust gone bad. Lets just walk into the boss's lair and ask for some words, maybe he'll be stupid enough not to kill the lot of us? Then another thought popped into John's head.

Why is this spirit so angry? did someone piss on its parade? does it suspect we've come to hunt it? is it just always a pissed of old cuss by nature? or is it something more specific?

He shook his head free of thought, trying to focus on the task at hand, he let himself become more the wolf and trust his senses of scent and sound to guide him.

His eyes glowed faintly, barely absorbing the light from the luminous tattoos on his mates. Not enough to see by. The noise was approaching, and he sniffed the air trying to tell of what nature the spirit was.

The others hardly moved, John only wished he could tell if they were relaxed or petrified, at least some sort of sign. As the leaves rustled some more, he could only wait. Wait for their leader to act first, and be ready to back him up.

Children indeed,

John found it easy to get his bearings, though he hadn`t a clue what they were looking for nor where they were going. If he were to trust his suspicions he'd just move towards his instincts told him to avoid.

His heart pumped furioiusly as he felt the force pump through his core, the feeling of dread egging him to become the Gauru. John steadied himself by pawing at the ground some and sniffing about, waiting for Taylor to give word of their direction. Until then he would simply follow in silence with the other members of the pack.

As John emerged from the water he shivered. He tried to shake it off with the water from his fur but the darkness resonated deep in this place. Nodding to Taylor and the others, he took up point near the leader preparing for any dangers that may come their way.

FT: "It don`t feel like were setup for a pleasant conversation Taylor." whispers John as he digs his claws into the earth in anticipation.

Swimming, a test as such, John used to swim with Mac in mountain lakes in the rockies. They were damn cold. Water was always a test, be it of endurance or surprise, you could never know for sure what was under it.

John stalked through the water easily taking to a swim in his powerful form. Barely kicking he let his massive claws and arms do the work as he coasted up next to Taylor with the water glistening black on his fur in the failing moonlight.

"So we're going to shake down some spirits to get some information? maybe see if this one's worth our trouble. I get it. Don't want a pansy spirit totem, if this one's a fairy maybe it can point to somethin' more worth while"

John now understood. It wasn't enough to just hunt a totem, they wanted a prize stag as a symbol of their prowess. A doe or young buck just wouldn't cut it. Full rack to mount on the wall so to speak, a trophy worthy of respect, a spirit worth respecting as a symbol of the...

John lowers his large lupin head at Taylor's retort. Why would I think hunting doesn`t involve violence? clearly I still have much to learn

"I thought Totem's were taken by overpowering them." John growled. He did not like being treated as such, but the Alpha had spoken, and he could only hope that Taylor had the strength to back up his position.

For now he would make that assumption until it was proven for yea or nea.

John looks to the new arrival, at least somewhat comforted by his recognition of Matt and Taylor. The scar on bearded man's face immediately caught John's attention though. From those he met, scaring doesn't occur easily for werewolves as they heal quickly.

With a quick glance to his ritual scars he made no comments, just a nod to the Uratha. He wanted to pounce on the newcomer, just to establish some dominance or test his own mettle at the very least, but in the end decided that it would probably not serve to impress the leaders of the pack he intended on joining.

At the word "hunting" John's ears perked up and he stood straighter. Looking to Matthew then Taylor, he shifted to the near wolf form before following.

John was about to shift back to human form, but the thought of shaking hands in the nude didn't appeal to him much. So he chose to stay as a wolf, and try as he may to speak in the wolf speak.

John felt free and at home in an odd way as he ran after Matthew. He found it fairly easy to get a bearing in this place, well as easy as it was in the physical world, the sights and scents were different but just as strong. Despite this John made sure to keep close to Matt as he ran.

Wow -2, that was damn close then if it wasn't for that halberd being reflective my roll would have been a botch!

At the sight of Taylor John stops with his head slightly cocked to the side and ears back.

John listens to what was said and simply nods. Headlines and case files of the many homicides that he's worked flash to mind as he steps towards the Loci. Whether they had any connection besides a sympathetic essence he did not know or really care to know.

He stares into the blade its reflection of the world around him...

...the world shimmers as he fades from one world to the next. Looking down at himself he sees that he is naked. "Very good then.. he says with a light shrug and shifts to Urhan.

He waits.

((Not sure the dice pool here, as I don't know the strength of the locus or what modifier would be in place for the area in a cemetery in a city, so I rolled it as straight int+pres+p.u.

"Next to nothing. I know it exists. I know that we're supposedly a part of it and the mortal word as well. I think we're supposed to be guardians or something of the border between that realm and this one. But that's it... for whatever that's worth." John looks at the Halberd suspiciously and waits for Matt to continue.

Seeing Matt with some sort of pole or flag or something John acknowledges him with a wave. what the heck is that?

"Evenin' Nice place for a meetin" says John with mild sarcasm in his voice. He didn't really like the nature of this place, not to mention all the bodies he new were beneath his feet.

John pulls up to the cemetery and dismounts his bike. He looked up at the moon, it was large like a full breast of the goddess. He snapped at the sky as if to take a bite and continued in amongst the tombstones.

John's phone vibrates in his pocket and he flips it up. Damn! I guess the drinks will have to wait

He shoves the phone back into his pocket and grabs his slip from the bar "Crap... he crumples the paper and stuffs it in his pocket, and walks out of the bar.

After exchanging digits with Matthew John's flush was fading, as was the pool of cash in his wallet. So he decided to try his luck at the Raven, he had noticed the sign earlier while riding around. John had always meant to stop into that bar, seemed like his type of people, rough riders and so forth, and now that he was no longer a boy blue what harm could it be?

His bike rustled into line, and he kicked the stand in place as he dismounted. Smiling as he noticed the sign on the door he swung in open, stepped in and looked about. Then straight to the bar he pulled out a crumpled pink paper and slapped it flat on the counter. "So friend, what's the deal? how much drink for this here pink?

((I should have mentioned this sooner but I just assumed that I reverted to Human at the end of a scene, ie before the last scene before going to the corner store. Just so you know I didn't walk into the bar a wolfman.))

John pats his coat looking for a pen. "Well I'll just have to remember it. Mine's 555-2337, or 555-Beer easy enough to remember, eh. It didn't even cost me extra to get that number, any how what's yours?."

John shrugs and keeps the bottle. "So you're the second in command, fair enough. I get how that works, it's the same in most pecking orders. Shit rolls downhill. The head spits it out, and you're the one who spreads it, and there's usually some poor shmuck who makes sure we all don't choke on it. I don't mind getting my hands dirty. When can I meet the rest of the Pack? how many of you are there anyway?

John shakes and shutters a little, then zips up and returns to his bottle. "No kidding. It would be nice to join a pack, I somewhat recall some of the Blood Talons speaking to me `bout it, but I was beat to a snot. I`m not sure on the details but I'm guessin it`s somethin like a special unit back on the force. So yeah, I`m damn interested. I'd like to know more about what you're specifically involved in though."

He grips the bottle and takes another swig before wiping his face in his sleeve. He cocks an eyebrow at the other man and shakes the brown bag a little. "You want any? Oh... and what`s a Beta? I`m guessing it doesn`t have anything to do with video tapes."

John hustled to the corner store and picked up another Colt 45, It's a good thing these are cheap and meets Matthew outside, already drinking from the paper bag as he walked.

"You know Matt, you seem like an alright fella, but really... is all this true? The Pure and whatnot, I sometimes have a hard time believing what I've experienced myself, much less what else could be out-there. But then, I've always felt like there was more going on behind the scenes then most could get. That's part of the reason I became a cop, but that bogged down desk jockey crap gets old quick. And when you got some bald prick yelling at ye from behind a desk about what's "really" goin' on, it can turn your stomach... can you hold this for a sec?

Then he trusts the bottle into Matt's chest, not a threatening jesture just one of need. As he jogged over behind a tree and started taking a leak. Talking to Matt over his shoulder,

"So what's the skinny Matty boy? I feel like a lost pup in a crazy new world without a clue what to do, where to go, or who to trust in all this mess." The large man's demeanor starts to lighten up some and his cheeks begin to take on a rosey hue.
