(Long Memory) There's a place and a time

The diner that the Long Memory had directed them to was quite obviously a haven for truckers. One side of the lot featured extra long parking specifically for semis and it had that smell that only seemed to appear around diesel engines. Above the door was a sign that read simply "The Saloon" in faded green letters.

It's a fairly popular place, not too far off the highway and with trucks, cars and even a bus or two pulling up fairly regularly. It has the benefit of location, being both near the highway and across from a truly terrifyingly run down fast food chain. Once you've been lured off the highway by a sign, it's sometimes better to take the slightly shabby option over going any further. And the food was obviously quite good; the smells of lunch wafting through the air in an ephemeral lure.

Morgan had ridden in the back of the truck, semi-confident claws meant to help hang onto cliffs would help hang onto a truck bed. It was mostly true. The Twilit Page was not familiar with the area. To open for her tastes, not enough places to hide. Granted, if there were trucks that'd be another matter. "T-terrain change if-if big-truck, or more, s-s-show up," she wasn't speaking to anyone. Just thinking aloud as she looked around. She did focus some attention on the food chain opposite them. Was it closed?

"So~o...heh-how do we conqueror-divide this?" that was directed at everyone she felt out ranked her (which was everyone).

Milo normally wouldn't ride in the bed, but he wanted to stay with his more regular partner in crime. That, and he was kind of hoping sticking L'aire and Ramona in the cabin together would either resolve some issues or get Ramona kicked from the case. It was a win win if anything happened for Milo.

"There are also people." Milo said, not nearly as perturbed as he maybe should have been. "That can be good. They won't try anything terribly illegal with so much through traffic."

The Fairest remained especially close to Morgan's side, though he shook his head when she asked about splitting up.

"Stay together. We have no idea if they have people here already, or what will happen if we split into to small a group."

    I'm assuming it's still morning.
Nodding in agreement with Milo's assessment, Ramona looks over the diner, while inwardly cursing the fact that none of the others had a car of their own. Not their fault, Changelings tend to have those kinds of issues with reintegration into mundane society. Still, it'd be helpful to have a second car parked somewhere nearby. In case they need it to escape.

In all likelihood, if they have to run, they'll be running to the truck. But just in case that's not an option, Ramona is looking for other ways out. Streets, bicycle paths, foot paths, trails, alleys, drainage ditches, whatever. Anything that might be an avenue to escape. She also makes a point of looking over the diner, trying to get a sense of the floor plan, the windows, the possible entrances and exits. No way is she leaving without knowing where the back door is.

Still, they'll probably look suspicious as hell if they just sit out here snooping around the place. "You guys wanna just go in? Act casual, have breakfast. Good chance to get a sense of the place."

The Fairest had watched enough silly flicks to know separating wasn't a good idea unless absolutely necessary. She shook her head to Morgan. "Hmm, probably not right now."

"They also won't try anything illegal or stupid with a crowd of people at breakfast either." L'aire nodded to Milo, then realized that was probably what he meant by traffic and her face winced at her own words.

"So, observational breakfast?" The Fairest shrugged and looked at the rest of the group.

The Beast nodded with the groups choice to not split up. Morgan surely needed to watch more Scooby Doo to recall: splitting the party results in the monsters chasing the coward and the animal. She qualified for both. Checking the interior sounded like a great idea for starters. "B-b-bacon I smell, that tis good. Heh-hope pub-public-normans tis a deterrent. I c-c-can easy-quick jog around building after to-to spot doors..."

And idea popped into her head. Why did folks wander around the less open parts of a restaurant? "Toilet," and then she remembered to include context, "Eh-heh-heh, we c-can scope-sweep interior exits wid-with excuse of seeking the toilet, heh-heh." Because asking the staff "how many exits are there in this building" sounded like a bad idea.

Milo simply nodded and smiled as L'aire echoed him. When Morgan blurted out the facilities he quirked an eyebrow, but other then that didn't seem to disagree with her idea.

"Breakfast it is." The Fairest confirmed as he headed to the door of the saloon. His eyes watched his surroundings, but he doubted anyone would try anything here in the open. For now, it was just breakfast.

A bell rang cheerfully as the door was pushed open, revealing what had to be every single diner stuck in the late 70's that ever existed. A couple of waitresses moved surely through the patrons, swinging large platters full of food around with alarming nonchalance. The nearest one smiled briefly as she moved past. "Ya'll just take a seat where you like. We'll be with you in just a minute." Somewhere behind the register, a small radio briefly hissed with static, interrupting the song of a cowboy mourning the loss of his love and his truck.

There were several larger men sitting at the counter, heads down and elbows firmly planted on the counter as they worked their way through huge platters of hash-browns, pancakes, and sausages. At the far end of the counter, a wiry old man clutched a mug of coffee and carried on an argument with somebody in a nearby booth. They were too far away to hear what was said, but it had the air of a long time argument where both parties were more interested in the ritual of the argument than what they were actually saying.

Milo smiled and nodded in gratitude as he made his way to the far end of the bar. At the table on the end he finally claimed his seat. With all the bar on one side it kept the number of directions they had to watch to be overheard from limited.

"Wonder what's good." Milo said to start the small talk as he scanned the place. Eyes watched the bickering men at the counter suspiciously, but otherwise the place seemed calm enough so far.

Morgan's eyes darted everywhere as she followed Milo to the table. She could see quite a few exits that most others wouldn't consider (windows) but doors not so much. It was a little odd trying to force her eyes to do what was a habit for herself. The place itself seemed nice, her darting eyes got a clue of the food options from the plates balanced by the waitresses. Her eyes did pause on one plate that seemed to have more butter then anything else on it. At the table she sat next to Milo on the inside near the window. "B-b-bacon smells real-good. Nay s-s-sure of the sausages. Pancakes ye can nev--erm," a memory made her pause to rethink her words. Morgan coughed into her fist before she continued, "Uh, ye can rarely go wrong with p-p-pancakes."
