[Daniel Leto]

Daniel entered the Winter Hollow with a pad and a CD player full of D batteries. He had been slacking, and he could feel the year long pledge stretching to its limits. Even if not for arcane necessity, he had a certain obligation. He hadn't been able to witness the Sandman's demise, but his victims still felt the horror of what he had inflicted. It was Daniel's job (by Wyrd and choice) that help them over come their nightmare. He laid down him blanket on the cold floor, turned on the cliched Enya soundtrack, and start to meditate.

It was a slow a subtle transition but as time passed the cold and music seemed to drift away until Daniel was left in a field of darkness. Gently he tried to push against it, and was a little suprised to feel it 'push back. A struggle ensued, the Darkling trying to force his his onto to world surrounding him, and a child's unconscious mind fighting against intruders that had so often abused it. And perhap because Daniel was trying to be gentle that Robby's mind prevailed, ironically enough crafting the very nightmare Daniel had hoped to prevent.

A large field of grass and stone began to solidify amidst the blackness. The hint of a beast snuffing about took form in Daniel's hearing. Robby's dream body began to take shape, the eyes darting around for danger it knew was inevitable.

Open to Lynn , Ava , and Terri ; if they can enter the dream (Wits+Comp+Bonuses). Dreamscape if you enter at/before reaching the four hour mark. One success is the number to beat. Don't forget your +1 Empathy from the pledge like I did. I'll give this four days. If I don't get any response in four days, Daniel will wrap things up on his own.

[Lynn Mills]

Lynn lay on a sleeping bag near Daniel, her breathing slow and easy as she listened to the music Daniel had provided. It may have been cliched, but it did help. For a while she seemed to float in a formless void, but finally she found the path she was seeking, a hint of music that grew gradually louder as she focused on it.

Lynn looked around at the dream as it was starting to form. "Daniel? Should we do something about this?"

Lynn would have to use another Hollow. Winter Court doesn't really others to use theirs.

Daniel felt another presence enter the dream and saw Lynn appear 'behind the scenes' as it were.

"Hey Lynn. I'm not sure." The dream wasn't that bad so far. It felt unreal and... light was the wrong word. Then again all Daniel had for comparison were horrors the Sandman had conjured. Around then a bright swirl of color appeared in the sky above. Waves of grass rippled across the ground. It was like being in a Van Gogh painting. At least until a distant howl echoed in the distance. A clearing formed around them of trampled wheat. Robby formed, pacing back and forth looking for a safe way across the open ground. However, every movement and sound held vague danger, and the tall hid unknown things.

"It might be a useful to try to figure out what's at the root of why these nightmares keep occurring. But I mean, the kid's already suffered a lot."

[Lynn Mills]

Lynn sighed, watching as Robby paced. "It happening because he's been mentally tortured for months now. It's PTSD, for all intents and purposes." Shifting to the side, Lynn slipped through the dream as an unseen observer. "It's not as bad as it could have been, but we can still change it for the better." She glance over at Daniel. "So what's the purpose in this trip? To heal or to diagnose?"

"To heal," he said with little hesitation, although the two weren't entirely mutually exclusive.

The gravewight stayed still as the two other minds circled.

"I've had some experience helping people let go fears," and die willingly "but not like this. It was mostly talking and listening, and it took a long time most times." Years it had felt like. "And it was always a specific fear. Given the variety of nightmares we passed through when traveling the Weave, I doubt we're going to be dealing with just one thing here."

The misty form that was Daniel glided down to kneel at Robby's eye level. The boy kept looking around fearfully, wanting to flee from the field but unable to choose a direction. He, like Lynn and Daniel, needed a more concrete goal.

"I'm not sure, maybe we could try to make a safe thought for him to use to help him in the nightmares. Maybe if we do it enough he'll start doing it on his own?" Daniel sounded unsure. "If the Sandman had warped Robby's mind to always make nightmares, couldn't we warp it to always make a guardian or protected area." Hmm, didn't sound as good when he put it that way.

"Like that bird you left behind before we went through the Gate."

[Lynn Mills]

Lynn nodded in agreement. "It will take a delicate touch though. This is a more fragile dream than the other was." Pursing her lips, she started to whistle, calling to mind the swelling music of the Firebird suite. Oddly, the sound that came forth was far more complex than could be accounted for by a single music maker.

Thankfully, it was enough. A fiery glow lit the mist from above, swiftly burning off as the Firebird from their earlier vista reappeared. Chirping joyously, it wound it's way around the boy several times before coming to land gently on his shoulder. "It's as strong as anything else in this dream. He may be a bit frightened, but it will protect him."

Robby cringed and screamed as the bird descended. Then a flicker of recognition passes through the dream and he instead starts crying tears of desperate joy.

"You came back, you came back!" he sobbed as the phoenix landed. However, as he keeps looking around for his protectors, he sniffles.

"Where are you?" he called to the darkness outside the circle of light cast by the firebird. Only a growl answers.

Daniel thought for a moment, then decided on what he wanted to do. He didn't trust the dream to hold up to too much manipulation. So, he thought just to create a light in the distance but one that Robby would know was coming from a safe place. The subconscious could build the location from there.

Unfortunately as the gravewight started to work, even that small change was too much. The nightmare couldn't handle the amount of hope being injected into it. Around them the field began to dissolve and Daniel could help but sigh. Maybe it was for the best though. The Darkling pushed glamour into the boy's mind, and even as the old nightmare fell apart, a new dream began to form. Taking queues from what was already present, a field remained but this time in the day time and not threatening. Robby changed as well. The small frightened boy took on a heroic aspect. A tamer of mythic beasts as proof by the phoenix that still sat on his shoulder. And in the distance, snow capped mountains rose from the plain. They called subliminally; offering adventure, obstacles to over come, and the chance to save others rather than be saved. Robby glanced around, confused for a moment, as his mind tried to catch up. With a little uncertainty, he ran his hand along the glowing feathers of the firebird for comfort and then began to walk toward the peaks.

"Sorry about that," Daniel apologized "Didn't think I was going to push the nightmare that hard."

[Lynn Mills]

Lynn laughed a bit and patted him on the shoulder. "At least you didn't pull apart a dream that we were depending on before we could get any clues as to where the bad guy was." Her teasing tone was a gentle reminder that of the two of them, she'd messed up first and far worse.

"But if Robby isn't going to be having a nightmare tonight, I don't think we should muck around any further. I've been looking into learning about therapy and maybe trying to help as many of the kids as possible. We did get a list of names, or at least descriptions of some of them."

It was strange to be patted on the back without either of them manifested. It felt like a real pat, only it felt more like an idea touching a disembodied mind.

Daniel chuckled "It didn't turn out that badly. You managed to keep the connections intact," he said sympathetically. A bit of luck had probably played a part but Lynn's quick reaction was still important.

He nodded in agreement at her next statement. The scenery shifted in a second, with Robby covering miles in a second thanks to the dream logic of travel. Rocky cliffs rose out of no where. Somewhere in the clouds above a griffin's roar echoed down to them. How Daniel knew it was a griffin was just something he let pass without thinking to hard on it. Robby whistled and the phoenix took flight, circling protectively.

"Yeah you're probably right." The temptation to take control and mold the dream to his whim was certainly there. However, Lynn was right. This wasn't a nightmare anymore. Things would turn out well without their interference. "Won't hurt to keep an eye on things though." The Sandman's scars ran deep. Better to make sure Robby's subconscious didn't turn things dark.

The Darkling's ears perked up at the mention of other children.

"That's good. Still not going to be easy. Going to either make a bunch of pledges or have Ava make a bunch of dream Weave scopes. If you need help don't hesitate to ask. Not really a dream expert but I'll do what I can."

[Lynn Mills]

"None of us want to see a bunch of children hurting, but I do wonder if it's going to be possible for us to help some many people at one time." Lynn's voice was soft and sad as she watched over Robby. "Of all of us, Ava is the best suited for dealing with dreams, but even then, she's more of a warrior than a healer." For a moment she watched as Robby searched for a way to climb up the cliffs before them so that he could investigate the griffin's nest. "You know, if we keep giving him this kind of dreams, the poor kid is going to end up a gamer, or even a LARPer."

With a sigh, Lynn sank into a perch on one of the nearby boulders, her incorporeal form hovering a scan half inch over the landscape. "How do you help so many people, when you don't even know where to find them?"
