As promised, Detective Cindy Roberts - a smartly dressed, auburn-haired woman with a single grey streak - waits for them at the precinct. Alexander's connections have granted the trio of Iron Spears a chance to question the flesh-fruit dealer in private. Not an easy task and not without risk. The agreement would allow them a private interrogation and a chance to review the evidence, though explicit instructions forbade the three from injuring the captive.

Roberts paces outside the station, smoking a cigarette and constantly checking her watch. One doesn't need to be a mind reader to see she's agitated.

Although the other two were given the heads-up as to the time and place of the meeting, the Iron Spears didn't arrive at the precinct together. A quick glance at his surroundings and Alex knew he arrived as the first. Which might be good and spare them more than a little awkwardness.

He didn't leave his companions completely in the dark, though. The talk he had with the officer on the phone was more than a little worrying, informing of some unexpected obstacles. That's why he's sent a text to Circe and a note to Donovan at his hotel, both identical.

"Our guy ate the stuff and went unstable. We may want to improvise. Wear your game face on"

While he's waiting for the Fairest and the Woodwalker to show up, he decides to feel detective Roberts up a little. All suited up, he approaches her with his hand extended and a professional smile offered.

"Detective Roberts, hello! Alexander Brown, thank you for meeting me here" He gives himself a second or two, studying the agitation "I heard there were some problems with the arrestee?" The tone nudges her to elaborate on what he already know. How this could even happen?

Roberts shakes the hand but doesn't return the smile.

"Mr. Brown. You're the civilian consultant?" She eyes him up and down for a moment, calculating, before continuing. "Whatever. The suspect is useless right now. None of us can get him to talk sense." She takes another drag of her cigarette before flinging it out onto the street. Another appraising look.

"You think you can?" She frowns. Without waiting for him to answer, she looks over his shoulder. "You were bringing others?"

Donovan tugged at the tie like he was trying to get a lasso off from around his neck. The suit was a cheap rental and it felt like it was too by half. It had felt loose when he’d first put it on. However, having found and read Alex’s note, the Wizened had hardened his Mask. Which he now regretted because his mortal guise of glamour was not as stavingly skinny as he was normally. Given he didn’t like fancy dress to begin with, the Woodwalker looked distinctly uncomfortable arriving at the police station. And it still felt like there was a pebble in his shoe.

“Howdy Alex,” he said approaching, glancing around the law enforcement area with a little suspicion. The entire thing still felt weird. Deception wasn’t Donovan’s strong suit. He fidgeted, scratching his head and mussing his bird’s nest of hair. The Mask couldn’t hide everything. At least there weren’t twigs sticking out of it.

“And to you ma’am. Name's Donovan Ackerman,” he said holding out a hand. He hoped they didn’t go looking him up to discover he was supposed to be a 30 year old lawyer.

Her skin turns a slate-blue and her hair bone white. The whites of her eyes are blood red, the irises are purple with cat-slit black pupils. The helix of her ears elongate out 2" inches ending in a tip. Her features sharpen and her figure has an unnatural, inhuman litheness that can be intellectually disturbing.

Her skin brings to mind Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, or Asian races, though her high cheek bones and sharp facial structure don't match. Most assume she is of mixed ancestry given the pale blonde hair. Alias Mary Maniscalo.

Before entering Circe sent a text to Alex and Donovan: Circe = Marie Blanc, and put the little telephone away. She couldn't really introduce herself with a homonym taken from a goddess.

Heels click as a stunning blonde walks in right behind Donovan. The woman is dressed in a casual business dress suit, complete with a slate blue tie. Circe certainly looked good in the suit with her mask hardened. She hoped no one asked her too much about law.

She walked up behind Alex but the soft Italian accent was hard and professional. Less like a lawyer and more like a bodyguard or something, "Sorry for the delay Mr Brown. I see Mr Ackerman is here already," she nodded to the lawyer, "Miss, I am Marie Blanc."

"Indeed I am" replies Alex when the woman calls him a civilian consultant. The title istelf sounds a bit weird, but if that's what they need to put on the documents, so be it. "We'll get him talking, don't worry. In the meantime, do you mind walking me through what you've done so far? How did the arrest go, exactly? How much product did you find on him?" He fights to not turn away as she exhales the irritating smoke. "Also, your colleague, mentioned the suspect is hallucinating. Was there any consistent... theme to these hallucinations?"

Thankfully for their time-conserving efforts, before Roberts has a chance to answer any of these questions (or before he has a chance to say something about his "associates") the two Lost appear almost simultaneously, and each of them receives a greeting nod.

"Right." she says, shaking Donovan's hand briefly. "Hello." Circe receives a curt nod. "Miss Blanc. I was just explaining to your colleague Mr. Brown that it's pointless to question the suspect right now." Her attention falls back on Alex again. "We can go over that later. Listen, I don't know who's back you scratched to get time with him. Frankly I don't care. His vitals are stable - for now - but there's no telling what this shit will do to him. I'm out of options and probably out of time."

She gestures towards the door and starts walking without bothering to see if they've fallen in step. Rather than look back at them, she simply raises her voice to compensate. "If you've worked with addicts like this before, maybe you know something I don't." Inside the reception area, she stops just short of the 'employees only' door and looks back over her shoulder. "You three do have experience with his kind, don't you?" Her tone is tired. And impatient.

Rolls may be required, depending on the answer to this question.

"If it's as pointless as you say" Alex begins, his tone that mix of friendliness and distanced professionalism he's mastered long ago "then we have nothing but time. We'd greatly appreciate you giving us all the details as well as full access to relevant physical evidence - as was agreed. Otherwise we can't help you and this whole mess stays in your backyard"

The woman clearly would rather be anywhere else doing anyting else, which is made clear by the fact that she doesn't even bother to check if they follow her through the corridors. Serve and protect, no shit. Still, Roberts is their ally-by-necessity for now, and as such she needs to be put at ease or better yet - see the immense profit she gains by cooperating. So the Darkling follows, but stops abruptly at one point in Roberts' little speech.

"Wait, what do you mean 'addicts'? We were told he suspect swallowed his own product, not that he's his own best customer. Or did we hear wrong?" He has half a mind to say "or was your intel bullshit?" instead, but that'd be rude. He gives the policewoman enough time to answer, and then continues. "In any case, you can trust our experience. Or not. But if you don't and we walk out that door, then you ain't going to learn crap from this guy. The network we're after slips away and people start questioning how exactly did you fail so hard. It'll be ahell of paperwork and disciplinary hearings, for all of us" Roberts gets a reassuring smile. Now comes the nice part "Or you can stop worrying, let us do our job and even take all the credit when it's done" The smile becomes somewhat predatory.

"Like you said - you're out of options"

Even in a suit Circe looked like she should be standing on a beach somewhere. The whole Mr. Ackerman seemed even more out of place. It reminded him of the noose round his neck. She also did the smart thing and gave a fake name. Something in retrospect he probably should have done, but too late now.

The Wizened stood hunch off to one side, hunched with hands in his pockets as the adults talked. Brown asking questions. Cop trying to shut them down. Sounded like the guy might have ODed on the Fruit, which was unfortunate. Meant they couldn’t examine it first hand. Although…

“Anyone tried makin’ him throw up?” he asked as they were led away to their suspect. “Or pumped his stomach?” Donovan had had to do those things occasional when a herd animal ate something they shouldn’t have. Although that normally involved cutting open their bellies and hoping they survived getting stitched back up. Whatever the case more food for the table.

Stopping short brought him back to reality. He let Alexander do the sweet talking. After giving a real name, Donovan didn’t want to risk giving any clues why they were really here.
