Having had to almost force herself awaken for the initial parts of the course, yes yes she understood why it was a necessity to go over such matters first and their importance but maintaining a fire even a coal based one was not exactly a skill she was unfamiliar with. Nor was fire something she was really afraid of, burned child fears the fire, or they did like her and learned to dance with it. Then again most people here likely grew up relying on electricity in one way or another for warmth, or to make their meals and it was a necessity to carry on but that and safety around it had still been ever so dull.

At least the terminology part had been parts where things actually started to make sense, having some insights yet having had to admit that many of them were entirely new things written down in her little book to study and put to mind during the few nights she actually allowed herself to sleep. Not really sure how Sleepers could handle sleeping away so much of their lives, hers was potentially one destined to see everyone alive today be they infants or elders alike and even with that it never felt like there was enough time to manage things, another thing though, another thing.

Finally, finally after having pushed herself through those dull and semi dull moments so was it time for the enjoyable part to grab the hammer, gently tossing it in her hands with a light glee. Never having believed she would be finding herself standing here, willing to work with something like this, crafting in general sure but with something like this never.

Grabbing the metal, and almost feeling nauseated, having to refrain from jumping back as shivers wanders through her body, disgusting, disgusting, disgusting. Wood or leather, hides, or even bone, heck stone as well for that matter all felt natural, enjoyable, or worthwhile to work with in some manner but metal no she had never enjoyed the sensation of that nor really dug herself into it. Still she had said that she would learn it, that she would expand their quarters to be able to work on weapons should they need it, and being able to make her own weapons would feel far better and be ever so less limiting than the current need to purchase them if she could just manage to push herself through these initial stages first.

Taking a deep breath and looking towards their instructor, following the technique, moving the hammer just as shown by the man. Mimicking exactly as told for now until the initial stages had been gone over and it was time to get to actual work, glad that she was short and could at least hide behind some of the taller ones to not make the disgusting faces upon her face draw to much attention.

Licking her lips and starting the process to make herself a taper, marking the metal, striking it with a shiver through her spine before placing it inside the fire, moving herself perhaps just an inch closer than most would be comfortable with but she knew fires, knew how close she could get without issue.
Moving the metal around as necessary, eyes kept on the fire, mesmerized by its beauty as symbols flutter around, still feeling off that they never once showed her the ways to protect herself from fire. Having seen them show almost everything she could imagine herself able to do but never once that.

Taking the heated metal out, over towards the anvil to start and hammer it, with each strike reverberating through her bones, hating the sensation, hating the material, just glad the recoil were at least barely noticeable. Letting the metal cool down, looking it over, raising it up, and back into the fire to repeat the process a couple of times, each reheating only proving why wood was so much nicer to work with but hey a look into fire was never an unpleasant sensation.

Placing the finished product down after a while to start the process anew to craft herself a round taper, and lastly a triangular one. Waiting for them to calm, tossing them up and showing her instructor the finished work as the day ends.
And walking out of there with three new tapers, not that she knew what she would be needing them for but not wanting to leave behind something she had made for the winds knew who to do who knows what with. At least now she could go on to the proper classes with proof that she had cleared the beginning steps to be allowed into them.

Sigh this is gonna be one bugging summer of intense studies.
