Forten's Illusion Ch 1 The City Garage

The map that Conner and Edward had observed in the meeting at elysium had featured two marked areas - a club downtown and a parking garage downtown. Any research of this garage revealed that it was a monitored garage - a manned security booth at the entrance to a three story garage structure. A moderate fee was paid - or a monthly sum - and one's car could be left for a longer period and was safe from being towed from the street. There was one entrance by the security booth. There was an exit here at the front and a second exit that accessed another main road. The gate at the exit would not open from the exterior, requiring a button to be pushed from within the garage to open.

There was no knowledge of what sort of car Forten drove or details on what Forten looked like gathered at this time. What would Conner and Edward do? BoxingUnicorn Conner Wells Edward Heinrich White

It was 8:28PM, and Edward stepped out of his car, parked one block away from the garage. It was too close to sunset for his liking, but that did maximize their time.

He wore casual clothes and texted Conner, I'm at the intersection of X and Y.

Conner approaches on foot freshly Blushed and dressed in light civilian clothes and a jacket perhaps a bit too warm for the weather. Though it did help distract from the cloaked medieval weapon strapped to his back. He gives Edward a nod as they get within sight of one another. "See anything of interest yet? It looks like my wheelhouse is more concerned with what happens inside university halls than without." Sans donor interest. Conner takes a moment to look at the security booth to see who's running it and how many personnel are involved.

[Edward Heinrich]

Edward returned the nod as Conner approached, "not as of yet." Standing and staring at the place seems a great way to seem suspicious. Instead, Edward was just a guy leaning against his car, looking at his phone -- hardly worth a first, let alone second, glance.

Edward spoke in a low conversational voice: "have you decided on an approach? My thinking was that we could pay the daily rate and have ourselves a look around. On the tail end, we could express interest in paying the monthly fee and ask about the management. What are your thoughts?"

The booth is manned by a fit young man in a light grey uniform. He is alert and checking the cameras. As you are in eye sight of the booth, he has looked over at the two of you as he looks the area over. He doesn't seem very interested in a man leaning on his car.

Conner nods back to Heinrich, pleased that the main guard looks just bored enough to not suspect anything immediately. Still, he mirrors Edward's lower volume to avoid eavesdropping. "I like that. Gets us in easy and keeps suspicion off. We'll just have to watch out for prying eyes inside the garage." Even if he could turn invisible, there would still be issues with eyes on the inside. Conner looks back towards Edward's vehicle. "You be the voice, I'll be the eyes and ears."

Conner will either follow Edward on foot towards the gate, or be in the passenger seat of Edward's vehicle as they approach the gate and buy their way in

"Understood," Edward unlocked his car and sat down, waiting for Conner to sit in the passenger seat. Once he had, Edward drove up to the security booth, rolling his window down to say: "the day rate, please."

Nothing much to it really. Edward did take the chance to give the man a proper look, was this a barely-above-minium-wage type, or was this a trained professional?

As the car is driven up to the security booth, Conner does not have much luck in observing. A black mercedes sedan is exiting at the same time, which drew the eye. It appeared to be driven by a white young woman in her mid forties. Nothing spectacular.
The security guard appeared to be competent. He held himself with command presence as he looked over first Edward and then Conner. He pulls out a tri - folded one sheet brochure emblazoned with Sacramento Grove Garage and passes it to Edward. Glancing within reveals a small section of the city map that the garage is located and cross streets, which may be handy. It features terms of service for the garage. Reading through reveals pretty standard terms - a credit card is kept on file to be charged on the 7th of each month. If cash is paid, a late fee of $15 per day is issued when the account is past due.

On the bottom is a nice little graph listing the day and month rates and contact information for the security booth.

"If you need the daily maximum, its 20 dollars, sir. Otherwise it is $4.50 per hour. That is for an unreserved parking spot. You can park anywhere on levels three through six. Please do not park on levels one and two, which are reserved for reserved parking spots. Any questions?" He meets Edward's eyes as he speaks with him.

White do post the equipment Edward has on him or in his car, please.

"Three and above, got it." Edward accepted the brochure with a polite smile. "have a nice day."
Edward drove at an easy pace through each floor until he reached floor 6. Scoping out the place all the while.

Once on floor six, he drove to the back and parked in an empty spot.
"Shall we?" Edward smiled to Conner as he unlocked the car, and then stepped out.

Edward has his phone and wallet containing 500$ cash. In the trunk he has: a laptop in a backpack, a rapier in a cloth fishing rod case, and a casual change of clothes.

As Edward goes through the registration process, Conner does his best to look bored and glance around aimlessly. The black sedan catches his eye, as well as the woman driving it. There's a flicker of animosity in his soul-gut; that predatory desire to see human beings as consumable commodities, and he shoves it down in disgust. I'm not hungry. Always hungry. Why bother waiting until it's needed?

Thankfully, or unthankfully depending on which side you ask, Edward secures the daily parking spot and Conner puts his existential dread to the side in favor of looking out the window as the car continues to climb. "It might be a good idea to walk down to the reserved spots on the first and second floors, just in case." Unless Edward stashes the garage map, Conner will take it for safe keeping.

Upon reaching their desired spot, Conner returns the friendly gesture and exits the vehicle. As they walk he looks around with two focuses in mind: security cameras that could catch suspicious activity and vehicles that looked like they didn't belong...or maybe belonged too well.
