[Anatole]

Anatole retreats slowly, his head swivelling from side to side as he scans the trod and the Hedge.

He doesn't see anything. Of course he doesn't; his mind is still racing.

Once he reaches the glade and catches up with Liam and Gerrit, he speaks:

"It was the 'rust' on the fruits Gerritt harvested, I tell you! The stuff slid off and was absorbed through his exposed skin. Bad business! That stuff came off so easily... There must be magic in it."

He turned bodily to face Gerrit; his scarred face with warped by a concerned frown.

"Gerritt! How exactly do you feel?"

Anatole, covers their retreat, seeing nothing of note.

Liam carries Gerrit, as if he were as light as a babe, quickly retreating to the clearing, with the soldier statues. Each and everyone still standing where they had been before.

There is a calmness surrounding the clearing for all there is a battle raging inside the Winter's blood...

If his mind hadn't been busy trying to grasp what was happening after he picked up the Goblin Fruits, the statues might have unnerved Gerrit. Hadn't he seen them move earlier? Was this part of a trap?
But he could barely focus on any thought right now, much less be wary of anything possibly weird going on. "Are are," his voice raspy and shaky, "going back?" He meant back to the place they found the fruits. Even now he still couldn't cope with the idea of letting the others down, of leaving a potentially threatening situation unchecked.

Anatole paused and lowered his axe.

"I think not. You are in no shape for anything right now. And we are in no position to go back, not without the right gear. I mean, I got some gloves but that might not be sufficient protection agains that rust. I got some ideas where to start and to be honest it would be better to just burn the path down and let the Hedge regrow - if it can. Change the landscape, right?"

He cracked an uncertain smile.

"Gerrit. You need powerful healing. We can't do that here.

The dwarf studied the stricken Ogre but all he could do was shake his head. The Paladin of Shadow's prestigious knowledge failed him.

"Liam! We need to keep moving and report this."

"Rust?" Liam's expression shifts to concern. "So then what happened to Carlos wasn't just because he was a Metalflesh? It's something IN the plant?" ​The weirdness of the Hedge continues to fascinate and stump the Ogre.

Gerrit's voice rasps out and Liam instinctively looks into Gerrit's eyes and mouth to make sure there isn't any foreign blockage or signs of irritation.

Anatole mentions burning down the Hedge and, for once, Liam doesn't feel any of the nagging dread that he gets whenever copious amounts of fire is brought up. "Maybe. I'm sure we know somebody with a flamethrower back home." Then again, maybe Talia or Circe have some literal firepower up their sleeves.

"On it!" Liam readjusts his grip on Gerrit to avoid dropping his Ogre friend and begins making his way towards the Hedge Gate.

Liam will gladly spend the Glamour to activate the gate unless that would require the use of his hands. If so, he'll defer to Anatole, or Gerrit if he's conscious enough to help.

Gerrit, heavy, dizzy. Determined. Still confined by Liam's careful but powerful hold.

Anatole, for all his knowledge, there is a difference between knowing and acting. Especially when it is a comrade in need.

Liam, Spring-bright, and holding onto the Winter looks upon the Ogre, and notices the rust....or what could be described as rust. None of what he sees is loose flecks, but bits of something between inorganic and organic, frozen in the act of burrowing under Gerrit's skin.

You remember that Sera's a powerful healer, an Entitled healer even!

Thoughts were swimming in his head, sounds were subdued and muddled and even though the rusty mold didn't seem to spread anymore Gerrit felt it raging war against his body. Anatole was talking at him, Liam seemed agitated about something.
The Stonebones did not care, he could not care.

He was just waiting for this whole thing to stop.

Gerrit will take no further action until brought to safety and will stay passive/dizzy until the end of the Scene. He is effectively exiting.

"Bah! Get him to Seraphina! She might have the vernal magics to cure him!"

Anatole bares his teeth in disgust at his own lack of understanding. Hefting his ax once more, the Paladin of Shadows prepares to cover their exit.

He will stand watch until Liam exits the Hedge with Graham.

Sera! "You're right, Anatole! Let's go!" Liam's own healing prowess is limited, but Sera's a master at Spring-related magics. And Spring specializes in healing. The Giant bounds into action, carrying Gerrit as carefully as he can without sacrificing speed. He approaches the Hedge gate and shoulder-bumps the edges to transfer the needed essence to open it. To return home.

Gerrit, loosing what consciousness he had clung to, and with the spectacular healer Queen Sera on their minds, the Lost pay the Glamour tithe to open the way between Here and There, and press forward.

It's dark. The sun has long since set. Luckily for the Lost and their in need companion, there is no one around to see them.

The rust would have to wait. They have more important things to do.

Going to Wrap up here! If you want to do a Scene bringing Seraphina in @me So I know, and can add it to the greater plot - but with Aeolus' taking some time, Gerrit will be recovering, no matter how well Sera's roll do. But if you do not want to do a separate healing scene considering the circumstances, that's fine! I will not being killing Gerrit!!! Just wanted to make that perfectly clear! We can continue on with Rotten Roots part 2, and I can put it up for a Plot Call to get more people for the plot if you want, just @me OOC in the Plot Check thread or the CtL OOC, if you don't want to add more people, that's also fine! Once again @me and I'll get Part 2 Up ASAP!
