PRP: Tunnel Trek Returns

[Circe]

Circe:
"So, we could have an underground mushroom kingdom? Watch out fer angry turtles," Circe was a product of the 1980s. Well, Mario was still around even now. "Could we spread and feed 'em Liam? Might save on batteries. We have plenty of shit in one tunnel. Wait," Circe pauses in her work, "No no no no. We ain't doing that, bad smell, awful smell, ya want ta spread glowy mushrooms use Miracle Grow."


"Ha!" Circe barks out as Liam asks about claws. "Not at this price. The cord ain't even that long. I went fer cheap and expendable," she fidgets with the cord at the edge, nope. Her left hand goes down to grasp it further down whilst pulling. She'd have to stick a second hand into the water to really get it loose.


"Huh, what?!" Circe rises up to her knees and quickly stumbles back from the hole, spinning around to face Liam and Seraphina. Her pistol is quickly out and ready.

Circe hadn't let go of the cord and the drone hadn't been that far down. On instinct, she'd pulled it out as she jumps back, quickly pulling it the few feet it needed out of the water.

Narration:
Liam has no idea what could have a mouth like that in the natural world. He's no clue what it is.


The drone clonks onto the stone, dislodging the tiny worm-like creature that had been covering the camera's lens. It isn't bigger than a garden snake, but the drone had a small camera as well. A trick of photography to make the creature seem bigger.


Whilst Liam thought the creature unnatural, those who had swam in the Sacramento River are familiar with some of the safety warnings that mention this creature. A breed of lamprey eel native to American rivers, a vampire of the sea. Circe is aware that this small one is young, probably from a spawning ground. Such as water filled tunnels with difficult access to the river for predators.

Circe:
Circe has the gun out and pointed down the tunnel past Liam and Seraphina, "What is the threat?"


Noticing the squirming, her eyes and gun dart to it as she sticks out her tongue in disgust at the slimy sight. "Eeew, vampire eel. This is why I didn't take up diving."

On Circe

Hip holster, smart phone, compass, and a updated badly drawn map. Hiker's vest with 2 water bottles, 4 meal bars. Cheap flashlight. 3 flasks of healing fruit juice.

[Circe]

Narration:
The Lost have discovered that this flooded section of tunnels is a habitat for river lamprey eels, making live transit via these tunnels very hazardous. Anyone entering those waters is going to lose a lot of blood.


Checking with the drone will show that there are many lamprey eels present, in various sizes. The edge of the drones limit shows a partial collapse of the tunnels. A person might be able to crawl through, but not with a SCUBA tank on their back. Further? Who knows.


Their back tracking is safer as they decide to just unload the barrel whilst going up the stairs instead of being daredevils this time.

I'll be honest, when trying to figure out what could be in the flooded section. I found that picture and wanted to use it Excellent scene BoxingUnicorn and Orianna, much fun was had. But it has gone over length and I doubt any of them want to swim with a bunch of leeches into unexplored water tunnels with only lung capacity.
