Funderland

Funderland Amusement Park has been dishing up kid-sized thrills since 1946! It is the only place to take the kids in Sacramento that has nine exciting amusement rides, a concession stand, birthday parties, and more. We are conveniently located in William Land Park next to the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town.


Funderland is a public location, but also the heart of Sacramento's Changeling Freehold.

Some Freeholds hide in plain sight, while others hide so well that new arrivals need an invitation and direction to even catch a hint of just where the Lost's stronghold resides. The Freehold of Sacramento is of the former, and has always been, but with the death of the dragon Fairweather, the Lost of Sacramento have taken control of, and are operating an amusement park. A self contained space, a fortress for the Lost, but one where mortals come spend their money, and offer up something more precious; Glamour. The park is divided along the lines of the Seasonal Courts, each having their own ride or featured building, so the Glamour is spiced in the layers of the four cardinal emotions.


Much like the world - the Hedge - beside the mundane one, there is a private world beneath the park -- prohibition era tunnels, passages and even rooms.


For now, the the Park is closed and admittance is only for the Lost. For those moments before Equinox and Solstice, The Eternal Seasons reign....

[Sonnie Wu]

Sonnie Wu sat on a lower strut of the inert ferris wheel, her legs dangling and tail swaying, as she watched something on her phone. Tik Tok, probably. She was not so high off the ground that she couldn't speak normally to someone below, but she was high enough to make some folks uncomfortable. The Steepscrambler was in her element. Monkeys liked perching out of reach of predators.

It was a nice autumn night in northern California, and Sonnie was dressed appropriately in blue jeans, a red hoodie and her hedgespun boots. A black beanie sat upon her head, and her hair was in twin braids. Her messenger bag hung on the metal struts next to her.

There was a burst of laughter as whatever she was watching struck her funny bone.

[Anatole]

Anatole slinks through the darkened theme park. The Paladin of Shadows can't really help it: his Mantle is in its element, pulling and tugging at the darkness that envelopes the rides and the office buildings of Funderland. Given the breadth of shadows, one might have mistaken him for some stripe of Darkling, had not his burned face and gnarled form suggested his Wizened nature. He was waring a long coat, too, with the collar turned up, which only added to the impression. His effusive curls, framed by dim shadows, glowed ethereally.

Anatole wasn't carrying his walking stick: whatever had ailed him in previous months had definitely passed.

The wizened smith drew near the ferris wheel, keeping quiet. He looked up at the Beast kith's dancing feet and raised an arched, bushy, eyebrow when Sonnie Wu burst out laughing.

[Roshon]

"This is fuckin' dope," Roshon exclaimed as she came striding through the park, a cloud of weed smoke trailing behind her.

Like, seriously, how many people had dreamed of having an amusement park all to themselves. Of sneaking in and having secret adventures, or just hanging out without a milling crowd of screaming, sweating, shuffling idiots. Like, sure, a closed down amusement park could have also doubled as the set for a horror film, but that was part of what made it so fun. Talk to any horror junky and they would tell you it was all about the thrills, not about, ya know, pissing yourself in terror, or whatever.

"Oh, hey, 'sup people," Roshon said as she caught sight of Anatole and the monkey girl chilling on the Ferris Wheel. "What's good, Anatole ?"

[Sonnie Wu]

Sonnie looked down at the greeting from Roshon (whether she was aware of Anatole's presence before that is unclear), and paused the video on her phone. "Oh, hey! Welcome to the Joker's hideout. Don't tell Batman!"

She paused and sniffed the air, detecting the scent of Mary Juana. "Starting your weekend early?" she giggled.

[Circe]

A loud, metallic knocking noise comes from the base of the ferriswheel. It is the sound of a very large wrench hitting the super structure.


"Oi monkey?! Ya up there talkin' ta yerself?!" Someone shouts from below as she tosses the a large wrench out of the utility pit. As in the length of a forearm. "If ya have screws loose, I guarantee that'll tighten," Circe is wearing a work jumpsuit with a bandana holing her her back. The Summer Queen is covered in grease but pauses as she sees more then just a Spring monkey, "Oh. Not talkin' ta yerself."


She finishes crawling out of the ferriswheel's utility pit and retrieves the wrench. The elfin Lost hefts if up onto her should. "Sup Anatole, oh, and hey Roshon! If ya came ta lend a hand," she shrugs, "Too late. The wheel shall turn."

She takes the wrench and bangs it against the structure again before looking up, "Unless ya see something wrong up there Sonny?!"

[Anatole]

"Aged malt whiskey."

Anatole managed to quip in response to Roshon before Sonnie Wu tore her attention away from her phone. He might have added more had not the clatter and clang from the belly of the ferris wheel alerted them all to Circe's presence. Mouth pursed, then twisting, the wizened stepped carefully away from the structure and the greased gunbunny smurfette.

"I see the fiery Crimson Court is deep at work, as always."

He moved close to the chimera Roshon , taking the moment to study the other wizened more closely. The burned dwarf's interactions with the Lost had been few and fleeting; he had never truly gotten a chance to examine the unusual mein of one of the rarer Kith's.

"Yes. Our Freehold has some exciting advantages. However, there are times when I wish we had something a little less ostentatious and a wee bit more useful."

[Roshon]

Roshon made a show of checking her pockets before saying, "Shit, guess I left my flask in the car," before flashing Anatole a tiger toothed grin.

She had a feeling that the bearded, burned, and scarred man probably had a much deeper appreciation for aged, golden spirits than she did, but it was always nice to meet someone with shared tastes.

Then she turned her gaze up to the athletic monkey woman lounging up on the framework of the ferris wheel and smiled a bit wider.

"There's a reason why we call it 'Chronic', which is kind of the opposite of the weekend."

Roshon laughed a little, before looking to Circe.

"Hey, I get it, things go faster when no one's around to watch. But hey, you ever want a second set of hands, gimme a call. I can fix more than engines."

[Sonnie Wu]

"Pfft!" Sonnie snorted in mock derision, "No! I don't talk to my self!"

Out loud.

She blinked and looked around at the various metal beams and struts that made up the skeleton of the ferris wheel. She was no mechanic, however, so everything seemed fine to her. "Uh, nope? S'all good. Are you turning it on?"

She laughed at Roshon's response, before flipping over to hang upside down on the strut she had been sitting upon, her knees hooked over the horizontal metal brace. There, she rocked back and forth as she eyed those on the ground. "Oh, a new mechanic to show up Circe, hm?"

[Circe]

"So?!" She shouts up at Sonja Wu, "Ya ain't a philosopher?"


"Ha!" Circe points the wrench at Anatole as she proudly states, "Good pun my friend!" Then lets it drop down to her side. His concerns of visibility has her smirk as she waits for the discussion on it to finish. "Well, I've the literal key ta what yer after Anatole. I've bridged this problem," she giggles, "And say ya can always try going underground."


She turns upon Roshon at the offer, "Glad ta know yer handy, I shall return the offer. Do ya have any experience with the crafty side of working in the park? The thorny one," she points to her right with the wrench, "Not this one," points down with the wrench. Then back up to Sonja Wu, "I'm secure in my skill set bouncy monkey! If Roshon better grease-monkey then me, I'll be an IT monkey."


As for turning on the ferris wheel, that got Circe to tap her chin. Not with the wrench. "Well, I can turn it on, buuut." She points with the wrench on Sonja, "Cute beasties on the structure is a no no for turning it on." Then she pauses. Her eyes are darting around the ferris-wheel. Searching for someone, "Speaking of cute, did ya bring Fugly tonight?"
