From the outside this wooded section didn't look like it even had graves. Fat tree trunks wrapped in choking vines tower over the ground here, their roots slowly kicking stone tombs out of the ground. Whole tombs have been swallowed by ravenous ivy. Sections of wrought-iron fencing litter the ground at random. With every step you don't know if you should expect to feel dirt or the solid thud of a collapsed headstone.

Quinn headed away from the group on her own and invisible. The jokes she could make about this were epic, but she didn't feel much humor this evening. Only the strange an eerie feeling of being a dead thing, among decay and decrepitude. Using the Cloak of Night always made Quinn feel like a ghost, just floating around while everything else was moving and existing solidly around her. Like she was fake and they were real. Like she didn't even exist.

Quinn began to search the area. Not much else to do at this point, when she found another good hiding spot she let the cloak drop so she could use her binoculars. It would help in finding Lady grief, or..so she hoped.

A flat-topped “table tomb,” swallowed by vines appears in front of Quinn. You almost walk into it in the dark. Old, spent candles have melted to its top. The spot beneath the table is littered with what looks like chicken bones. This is clearly not the Lady Grief. Searching along the graves has taken fifteen minutes.
Quinn continues deeper into Sigh Hill, moving unseen over the grounds. A mossy monument in the shape of a stone bench backed up against a tall chest tomb. On the bench is a green bronze sculpture of a woman hooded by a cloth draped over her head, covering most of her body. All of it is lovingly wrought in delicate bronze. Her face is still and sad, eyes shut. One hand pokes out under the bronze drapery, clutching a handful of it in strained fingers. The other arm reaches out in front of her, holding up an iron lantern — a genuine iron lantern, with glass panes and an open door. The ground between you and her is covered in a layer of dull pennies dropped on the dirt. Like leaves.

The binoculars were fucking winners for this adventure. Thank god. Damn. Something went sorta right? She thought with a soft sigh, her lungs filled with air and her skin flushed with artifice so she was warm and supple, instead of cold and taught and unnaturally smooth. Looking over the statue of Lady Grief she paused for a moment to take in the symbolism. She holds the key....well they lied about that shit. Quinn couldn't see anything in Lady Grief's hands that would be a key. Definitely not holding it literally.

Quinn thought a moment. Looking at the pennies, and the positioning. What was she grieving? The finding of the key? She doesn't have it directly on her though. Quinn circled around to make sure, but didn't see anything that jumped out exactly. Her gaze kept moving to the real lantern. It could be lit. Still. Maybe there was a cubby hole or something if the lantern was lit? Lamps illuminated things didn't they? Was this like Bilbo Baggins outside of the entrance into Erebor? Except a cubby where the key is held?? Is it some kind of reflection or shadow box thing? Only one way to find out.

Quinn was stumped and unsure. It could be freaking anything?! She thought she was on to something mentally....buuut, she felt fried and stretched thin tonight. She kept circling the statue like a shark. Looking all over the damn thing. You are practically feeling up a statue in a graveyard for fucks sake get a grip. Stop. Think. You were on to something. Get back on track.

She finally had an 'aha' moment definitively of what to do. Quinn took her glowsticks out and cracked them. The bright neon glow eerily lit her face and skin blue, cutting through the shadows like captive stars, making Quinn blink a few times to adjust to the sudden light. She tried putting them in the lantern to see what happened. She had matches and lighter fluid too, but these felt a lot safer to the Shadow. She had thought these would be used inside some creepy tomb, but...well....maybe?

Quinn places the glow sticks within the lantern. For an instant when she is moving the light stick, she thinks that she sees something projected from the glass of the lantern. Yet when she looks, there is just the blue glow. Adjusting the glow sticks shows the same results- the glow sticks are not what the lantern was designed for. Lady Grief has been waiting for over seventy years for someone to come and finish the puzzle that Cliffton Hews laid out. Could Quinn find what to do with the lantern to decide how Lady Grief has the key?

Perhaps it had something to do with what Pope did in his Danse...

Well that didn't work. Shit. Hmm. Quinn had a terrible thought looming in her mind, but even that thought was a solace on one hand. If anyone were to use fire it should be an X Dragon right? Who can control her frenzy..
She took back her glow sticks, and shoved them down into her jean pockets, the light dying around her. Once more the gloom settling over the area. Quinn's heartbeat thundered in her ears and chest as the trepidation of removing the zippo from her pocket began to settle over her.

Her limbs felt wooden in their reluctance to attempt to light the lantern. Quinn avoided fire as much as she could. Being a Shadow had its downside. True, she was in control of it, and it was a small flame, placed inside a lantern that even had a glass panel to shut. It was the equivalent of a controlled fire behind glass at a clients house. Quinn took a deep breath and lit the zippo, placing it inside the lantern and shuttering the glass dome. The glow illuminating the area much more brightly than the glow sticks. She stepped back just a bit and waited to see what would happen.

The dangerous flame flickered, causing one's Beast to react. Yet the light was strong. The lantern casts an amber light across the ground in all directions, hedged in by the long wavering bars of the lantern's shadow. Lady Grief's face warms in the glow. The etched pane, though, throws a swatch of light away from Lady Grief onto the side of a mausoleum forty yards away.
Bugs flit through the glowing beam. Projected through the lantern lens onto the mausoleum wall is the shadowy shape of a key and fuzzy-edged words: "Quid est veritas?

The Liar's past work has surfaced, no doubt used to project this message. What does it mean? They key seems close at hand, projected at the wall.

Quinn didn't have to puzzle this message long. Quid was famous as in Quid Pro Quo. Veritas was also famous for truth. Quinn was certain it said 'What is truth?' She snorted softly at the message. The more shit they found out about Pope the more Quinn felt convinced the guy was a charlatan of some sort. She walked out to the mausoleum that had the projection on the wall, and examined the surface closely. Trying to see if there was a way in, right here where the key was projected. It was the only thing that made sense to Quinn. It was a clever projection. Quinn recalled there were shows done earlier in history with such trinkets. She imagined that's how the key was projected by the light of the lamp. Hmmm. Yeah..she totally stuck her hand up there and made a little quack quack motion with her hand on the wall as she looked for something to let her in, or a difference in the wall. A weakness...to pull out the key. Trying to spot something in the projected space.

The wall of the mauseleum that the image is projected into is imperfect. In place of mortar, some bricks are held in place with ceramic slats. This clearly is not the original design for the cemetery building.

It would take 15 minutes to remove the ceramic slats with a successful strength+ stamina roll

Around Quinn, the silence stretches. The perceptive Mekhet feels that she can nearly hear the gentle wind licking the flame in the lantern. The wind seems more gentle here. Almost as though holding it's breath. The lantern glass protected the flame, projecting the lights strength.

It no doubt also signals Quinn's presence.

Quinn didn't waste any time working through the ceramic, prying them loose. Her fingers wiggling and flexing around the corners, and ripping them out. It was tedious but it had to come out. It took her another chunk of precious time to get all that ceramic down, and she really really really hoped this was it.

The stillness felt like it was closing in around her. She felt vaguely claustrophobic all of the sudden. It was that pure light of the flame. It felt more like a spotlight. Illuminating at her back, like someone lovingly drawing a target on it....
It was a horrible feeling that made her mind filled with paranoid and frankly not so paranoid thoughts.
