He hated doing this. He knew what it felt like. Being grabbed and dragged through the Thorns. But if the Oliver wasn’t going to listen to words… that left only one (terrible) option.

Ram lunged at the professor and tried to grab hold of of the squealing pig.

And then... Violence!

Anatole had a healthy respect for an Ogre's physical prowess, especially one as big as Ram and so well proportioned for sheer destruction. For some reason, he had anticipated that Ram would be slower - closer to a slow moving but unstoppable jaggernaut than a whirlwind. Well, this wizened was getting schooled.

Anatole manages to catch the shocked words on his lips before he says them. He cannot stop the exhalation of air when Ram makes his move.

The burned dwarf manages to keep up with the raging Ogre: slipping his axe into both hands, Anatole quietly stalks behind the stricken porcine Ogre - hoping that Oliver is now more focussed on Ram's attack than his flanks.

Anatole is preparing to swing...

For the first time since meeting the Piggy Professor, Ram feels the strength of an Ogre within him, straining against the hold. Oliver grunts, the Clause is invoked and Ram feels that call to Stone. There is a slight increase to the mass that Ram is trying to contain.

Surprisingly it seems to helped at least, the force, or perhaps the skill, of the Pig brings to break the grapple is equal to the Render's keeping hold of him, maybe it's the shock, maybe it's bad luck, but Ram's grip lessens, and the Pig pulls himself away from Ram and towards Anatole, who's successfully remained under Oliver's notice.

Oliver's Defense is 2! He's also spending a Glamour for Stone 1!

Well, he was set on the path now. All he needed to do was get a grip and keep it. His strength should be able to do the rest. Then it would just be the long torturous dragging of Oliver away from this self imposed prison.

Anatole's face is grim now. Bearing his teeth, he prepares his ax...

He swings with all of his might - a devastating blow with no thought to his own safety. The wrathful dwarf had anticipated the porcine Ogre being fixated on Ram, and being completely open to a - hopefully - killing blow.

But then poor Oliver turned... right into the murderous arcing swing!

[Saber Sloth]

Oliver stumbles right into the arching swing of the Smith's axe, cleaving his flesh. The porcine squeal is loud and long, echoing around the cul-de-sac of forgotten houses long after Oliver, staggers, dropping first to his knees, then to his front.

Twitching, axe sticking out from him, with ragged wet gasps, and squealed whines, Oliver was alive, but not for long.

He's bleeding out.

He’d told Anatole to go get the others. And then the ax came out of no where! What the hell?! The dwarf was supposed to be gathering everyone but he had disregarded orders, again, and now Oliver was bleeding out. This wasn’t what Ram wanted at all. Why did everything he do turn into a mess?!

“Go get Cass!” he yelled at the Autumn. His voice barely below a roar, since apparently when he gave orders, fear was the only way to make sure the Smith would even consider following them.

Anatole swung. His teeth were bared in a grimace that turned into a horrible smirk as the Ax hit home. The burned dwarf watched as Oliver went down.

The Ashen Courtier's eyes rose to meet Ram

And from the immediate look of shocked surprise (not to mention the way the wizened took two steps back from the Ogre's furious presence) it was clear that Anatole had not understood Ram's intentions one bit.

Shock turned to surprise, which fell into hot, defensive, anger. Anger simmered into sullen rage.

"You attacked him!"

Still, the Ashen Courtier obeyed the hulking Crimson Courtier and scurried back to the hob house. Anatole vented his shocked fury on the door, ripping it open with a loud bang.

"TIME. TO. GO!"

He bawled, fully expecting the Onyx to be still in the hallway and parlour.

They were not.

"FUCK!"

Impotent, he screamed again into the empty space.

Sorry for the delay in posting. Anatole will resist with Resolve and Subterfuge... And will fail. He still got some success so rather than being scared into submission, he will be shocked and furious and all mixed up instead.

Summer's fury, and Autumn's assumptions, meet, clashing with wild shouts. There was a reason Iron Spear and the Leaden Mirror lay adjacent in the Seasonal Cycle.

Anatole rips open the door, and screams out, after the Winters, out of frustration. Leaving the wet gasping, Oliver at Ram's feet.

Antatole wasn’t wrong there when he said Ram had attacked. But right now wasn’t the time to argue. Ram was frustrated but right now was not the time to be at each other’s throats.

He worked to get his backpack off and grab the first aid kit from it when he heard the Smith’s curse and looked up. Looking down for a second he made his decision, rushing over to the door and…

“Fuck,” he agreed before heading back over to Oliver, taking the man up into his arms.

Might be carrying him into a trap and he probably shouldn’t be moving him but he wasn’t going to leave the guy to bleed out. But neither could they stay here when two other friends could ALSO be bleeding out on the floor somewhere for all they knew.

“Let’s go find them,” he said steadily, taking point “Watch for traps.”

Anatole was positively glaring at the empty space in the hallway. If he had been a Crimson Courtier like Ram, the burned dwarf would surely have been simmering. He glared back over his shoulder as the hulking Ogre began patching up Oliver. Then he turned back to the house and stared with pure malice at the interior.

His head bowed.

Anatole exhaled. Loudly.

"Yeah. Let's do that."
