Magic Shapechanging in the Arrow Sanctum

To say the afternoon had taken a boring turn would be an understatement.

There was part of her that was tempted, very tempted, to throw this whole thing into a state of chaos. Really put both of them to the test. But they hadn’t established boundaries on this exercise, so it didn’t feel right.

Damn not wanting to cross any lines. It sucked. Why did she have to be nice?

So the Shaman sits and watches the others.

As Phoenyx casts, then seems to follow Kaze, she watches. The bark told her Phoenyx had found him. But would she up the stakes? Or simply keep following him around with a broom? "Soo," she begins, "is the broom for show, or does it have any bite to it?" come on guys, have some fun!

Kaze is frustrated--no, be honest, make that 'embarrassed'--at how easily Phoenyx undoes all the things he tries. He feels a surge or resentment, and an impulse to try to embarrass her back, to dispel her dog form, which if he succeeded would surely distract her. But whether that's a cat's pride or his own--it's his own, totally--it's totally not cool. He's the one who asked for this, even if he didn't really ask for the testing of his will, just the duration of the spell. Phoenyx is just doing what she's been asked to do. If maybe she seems to be enjoying it more than he appreciates, so what?

He thinks a minute, instead if resorting to simple counters, like trying to dispel her Sorcerer's Apprentice minion, what if he tried something more...creative?

The cat sniffs at the dog, and moves away, with the natural grace and aloofness that comes with the form. Then, at a distance of about five yards away, Kaze attempts another cloaked spell, centered on the floor around the dog.

Sure, she'll probably see through the Cloak, but maybe not, and she still won't know exactly what it is...until she tries to follow him.

Phoenyx had no idea what she was doing. At one point Aurora was saying don't hurt Kaze, and now she was suggesting hit him with the broom? Couldn't she make up her mind? Unfortunately this is all a bit convoluted for a dog to express, and it resulted in an angry-sounding bark to the Thyrsus.

Again with the sneaky casting. She came here to help. It felt like she was being severely underappreciated. Oh well.

The broom moves through the air, slamming down near to Kaze's head. She wasn't trying to hit him, just unnerve the cat.

I saw the thing about penalties in the discord - sorry! I honestly thought Trained observer worked the way I used it. But also I don't think you can just vanish with stealth when someone is watching you, and Phoenyx can Counterspell a lot of things.

An eyebrow raises at the bark, “Have something to say?” because she sure seemed to. And Aurora wonders if she would be able to alter the dog form to give Phoenyx the ability to speak. It was tempting to try, but this wasn’t about Phoenyx being able to talk, this was about Kaze holding his new form and not getting lost.

Then finally, something happens. The broom moves and slams down.

Time to see how Kaze does with that. Will he keep form? Will he fail in the struggle?

Kaze seems unsurprised and unimpressed at the broom's antics.

The black cat calmly looks off to the side of the broom and Phoenyx as the broom approaches and touches down hear the cat.

Kaze moves with dignity and grace as he deliberately turns his back on Phoenyx to walk around Aurora's ankles, his tail high in the air. He stops behind Aurora, and then delicately pats her ankle three times with his right paw in very clear, 'Still human mind controlled here' fashion.

No worries on the Trained Observer thing! I am learning a ton from this scene, and that's my goal along with having fun! Thank you so much for being in it and helping it to happen!

That said, we don't have to actually play out the whole duration of the Shapechanging spell, if we feel like we've kind of done as much as is interesting in the scene. I mean, there are only so many possibilities when two out of the three people in the scene can't talk! LOL!

I am good to continue until the time is out, or fast forward to that or let it happen off stage and close whenever you guys re ready!

Phoenyx sits on the floor, watching. He seemed remarkably composed. It was a good thing.

The Arrow barked to Aurora, looking deliberately at the clothes pile. Hopefully she would get what the Arrow wanted.

Sorry, I wasn't sure what to do with this scene tand then it got away.

I'm happy to start wrapping things up - I've not really been sure what to do here!

There was a nod to KatKaze, he was doing well.

At the bark, she looks to Phoenyx, and notices her looking at her clothes.

Another nod of understanding, “Think we’ve reached the point where we know he can hold form and stay in control. Which is a great thing Kaze.” Praise where it was due. “And while I’d like to up the stakes, I think that’s best discussed as humans.” A smirk.

Walking over to the clothes pile and picking them up, “Want me to hold up a blanket or something before I change you back? Or is there a room you’d be more comfortable in?” trying to make sure Phoenyx was comfortable as she appeared uncomfortable with Kaze being naked.

I think it's come to a natural close, but has been great!

Yes! Thank you both for being willing to participate in a different kind of scene! Without plots, there isn't really that much opportunity to do magic in scenes aside from glimpses, where people can kind of check each other on the mechanics and share the continuity/experience of what the characters learned from doing the magic. Thank you again so much for making it a special and highly educational scene!
